  1. Don't panic, don't panic. Heavens knows how Reform will run councils; I expect most of them are ex Tories.
  2. I reckon it's because the clippy (conductor for those below a certain age) was popping in for some slap and tickle at some house whilst hubby was out. A famous bus inspector, Blakey, lived for a few years with his sister, in Honor Oak, a few years ago before his death.
  3. Phoenix and Firkin, in it's first 20 years, was wonderful.
  4. Camberwell Old Cemetery weren't this morning, oddly out with strimmers near the meadow area;,but.... It's generally a haven for wildlife so can be forgiven 😊
  5. Oddly different bus garages and companies 63 and 363 I understand. Don't ask me the logic
  6. Hopefully some of you are up for this. I planted a small meadow a few years ago, hard work on these heavy clay soils. The start is planting yellow rattle, but I've spent tens of pounds on seeds and plugs over the years and only a few species are successful - ox eye daisy, purple and white clover, with the daisies, buttercups and dandelions that many consider weeds. It's going to be tough doing MMM as I have not mowed over much of the lawn this year, so it will need one hell of a trim in June. Apart from the meadow that is cut three times a year by hand.
  7. I'm deed. Crushing cars is only appropriate for serial and serious offenders. Useful guidance here on enforcement https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/legal/driving-offences/ I think they only crush when VED is not paid and when cars are confiscated eg drug gangs, although they may go to auction in this situation
  8. Walking past the road works yesterday and it looks like they were making good progress. Traffic at 5.30 pm coming up from LL fairly light and no tail back. Thames Water works by Mount Adon a pain, but TW a different story....
  9. I suppose ultimately dogs and the urban environment don't go together. Although dog poo and some farm animals doesn't go well together Two domesticated species, very different to being in the wild.
  10. I'd stay away from eating cheese at night, particularly if the bread is mouldy, and definitely avoid those brightly coloured mushrooms. I could scour the internet for strange motoring incidents but don't understand why one extreme anecdote has any great relevance to whatever debate is on this thread. Did you know that around forty pedestrians are killed each year from cars mounting the pavement? https://www.roadpeace.org/pedestrian-pavement-deaths-2/ I don't see any argument on here to ban cars.
  11. I'd have zero tolerance and send cars to the crusher. Yep, war on motorists!
  12. Gumtree is often to go to place for bicycle thieves.
  13. Thank you DKH, it's a shame the next two posters brought the mood down, with two others thinking that this was appropriate. Edited; and further doubt, doom and gloom, and opportunities to moan about Southwark following that.
  14. To square the circle Rob Newman used Carter as his theme music and Badiel Genesis (pre-80) or the Smiths (I'll have to reslisten to the programme) Yes in deed, I'm well trumped. Just done a little more research, Mudhoney and Hole played there - the latter featuring Courtney Love, I recall a poster advertising this but I last went decades ago, and the bands that became mega - Oasis, and Radiohead.
  15. Rather patronising, I've been cycling in London for decades and occasionally driving through it as well, I have never in my life wanted to or needed to drive up Charing Cross Road and Totenham Court Road, and have always found it bizarre why people would do this apart from trades people and those supplying shops. Even much of this can be done on zero emission vehicles. On a Friday or Saturday night you look at many who drive in this dreadfully congested area and scratch your head. It will be so much better without this. Too right that cyclists, and more importantly pedestrians, should be prioritised. It sound like you are addicted to driving, a hard habit to break. Fortunately I saw the light many years ago. Join me. https://greenfleet.net/features/26062018/fuelling-last-mile-pedal-power
  16. The scheme in the park will do more to encourage more courteous cycling than a threat of a lifetime in prison. The latter situation is just not going to happen. The comparison with sentencing guidelines for causing death by careless driving is useful - essentially you have to cross all the boxes to get four years in prison in terms of recklessness and attitude, and for most it will significantly less if the sentence is custodial. You'd have to be using our bike as a weapon to get more than this, https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/magistrates-court/item/causing-death-by-careless-or-inconsiderate-driving/ Cars make much more effective weapons than bikes, and powers are already there for the courts - manslaughter and murder. https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/road-traffic-fatal-offences-and-bad-driving If the vehicle was used as a weapon to kill a person, with the intent to kill them or commit grievous bodily harm, a charge of murder may be considered. This is not a question of the standard of driving but rather of the defendant’s intention. Alternatively, a charge of manslaughter, whether unlawful act, gross negligence or corporate may be appropriate. Few of you want to engage in a proper discussion and just repeat the same views again and again, which for some seems to be driven by a general dislike of cyclists, and/or a number of environmental schemes that have put some restrictions on motorists. Cyclists are not a homogeneous group. A first approach is to understand why some are not courteous and what the levers are to address this. Rather than an ineffective nuclear option. Funny thing was I hadn't realised how pointless this new change was until I had looked deeper. Instinctively I knew it was daft, but now I know that is the case.
  17. I explained that I had Googled due to David Badiel talking about the New Cross venue and for some reason found my thread. https://www.concertarchives.org/venues/the-venue-new-cross-f673e868-e71d-49ee-8238-855de27b040b For younger readers the link gives a few highlights, I was at the very early Levellers gig silverfish (who?) but missed all the early Britpop. I recall grunge bands playing there - Nirvana?
  18. Met Atilla at Forest Fest in Honor Oak last year. Otway wasn't playing with him at the New Cross Gig. A band called Newtown Neurotics also played but I don't remember them. I also don't remember seeing Blur opening in a four band tour at the Academy around this time, or Pulp supporting St Etienne at the Shepherds Bush Empire a couple of years later. David Badiel and Rob Newman played the Venue around the same time; he is discussing this with Verne on Radio 2. Googled for more info and oddly came up with this thread. I expect this will have zero interest for most of you. Unless you want to talk about famous bands you saw, but don't remember.
  19. You make a good point about selfish drivers, but then make an excuse for them This is similar to some people on this site complaining about fly tipping but then justifying this due to local authority costs for disposing of refuse.
  20. Oh, how sad. How fortunate many of us were to see him at the Goose including his last ever performance. Thank you Sue and Nyge.
  21. This is a forum for debate. How are you engaging? Throwing insults is not debating. I made some points. If you don't want to discuss the issues then I don't understand why you are getting involved.
  22. It would be useful if you could address my points. The cow, and the facetious pictures, were just putting into context that the numbers killed where a cyclist is involved are tiny. And I don't even know whether this was due to a pedestrian stepping out into the road without looking - as many pedestrian deaths are, sadly. I don't see any of the many cyclists I know, and know of, suddenly changing their behaviour due to the highly unlikely situation that they are being irresponsible and kill someone and could face much harsher punishment. That is because few of us actually don't want to hurt others, and that applies to the overwhelming majority of us, whether we ride at 10 or 22 mph, and whether we stop at every red light of not. I don't think that you understand the notion of proportionality. That is targeting effort where you get the greatest reduction in harm. You may also get a broader understanding of the situation by looking through my attachments, which I am most happy to discuss.
  23. I find net curtains more useful for spying on neighbours. And/or some security cameras.
  24. Ah, but are these cows on bicycles, and were they using their horns to warn pedestrians? And was this on a beach?
