West Dulwich LTN Action Group - needs your support
malumbu replied to Rashmipat's topic in Roads & Transport
Sadly I expect that would be the answer from many. On the ULEZ extension (Greater London, not within the M25, that was the earlier LEZ that applies to larger vehicles) Mayor Khan should be congratulated for extending this; those living in close proximity of major roads including and outside of the North and South Circs should be particularly grateful. Yet middle England rebelled caring more about their right to drive than health. And a lot of the reason we are where we are now; Sunak's and Starmer's pro driver policies are in response to this. I'd have told the small majority of Tory voters in Uxbridge where to go. -

You are hardly middle ground yourself. You are coming across as an apologist for those that consider they have to drive, when there are often good alternatives Well this debate is really moving on. Ultimately road closures and restrictions are one means of discouraging driving. In many cases communities will never have a majority in favour due to self interest. Yet if I check all my feeder roads onto The South Circ, Lordship Lane and Forest Hill Road, the majority have some sort of restrictions. So why are you not campaigning for roads such as St Aidans Road to have access to Forest Hill Road, or Wood Vale to turn right onto the South Circ rather than go round the houses? That is because these are now established restrictions and were not badged as LTNs. -
I'd actually go the whole hog and do a fondue, we all remember them fondly from parties in the last century or trips to Switzerland. As long as it is cheese, not chocolate, urghhh
-
Perhaps this could be part of your proposed forum meet up, the cheese I hasten to add @Sue
-
Shame, go there! Although embarrassingly we only used it takeaway during lockdown. It's a Persian store/cafe/restaurant if you are unaware of the cultural reference in the name. Just checked the menu and it is phenomenal and good value too, thanks for reminding me to go there https://foratasteofpersia.co.uk/restaurant/

Avoiding the issue Bob, start a war and then walk away pretending that it was not you. Good idea for a comedy sketch featuring John Cheese, sorry Cleese. In terms of what to guy. Fortunately the modern food store makes this easy. Thought that this was Waitrose's finest but disappointed to see that it is also on sale in Sainsbury's. I understand that the (old) penny store, Marks and Sparks fails in terms of cheese selection boxes.

Hard cheese! (Just found out that this is a jovial comment, 'better luck next time' as haven't heard it since the last time I watched an Ealing comedy) Although AI thinks different. I think these cheese wars could eclipse the last major war in the UK Yes, I'm talking about the Brit pop wars. Whose side were you on. See what you have started Bob.....

That's a wheely dreadful joke.

Perhaps a good place for Sue's EDF proposed meet up. I'll suggest in that thread. -

Thanks March. A nice feed too even though it is on X 'same old lines?' Quite prophetic based on the post that follows. Incidentally this excitement about a scheme that is not in East Dulwich, and the indication that protest groups are working together, suggests that many are against ALL LTNs not just individual schemes. Own up. -
A difficult one.can we come over to yours for a blind tasting? You could sneak in a Somerset brie as well. I'll bring bottles of Breton, Normandy and Somerset cider. Can you get hold of some blue brie? That would make things interesting. As I'd like to maintain my identity I'll be dressed in disguise. We could have a theme but not animal masks as we would look like swingers.

Try the castle upstairs, you'd need to buy a few drinks in return. @Suecan you advise? It will be in use some Mondays no doubt
-
Didn't study the works notice. So should be OKish Monday. Cheers. Gosh, just educated myself on SGN. Hadn't taken much notice of regional gas networks before. Not a lot on Wiki about them apart from a gas explosion at Thornton Heath

Calm down everyone as long as you have a license no age limit https://www.zipcar.com/en-gb/how-it-works/join?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21735659685&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxJvBBhDuARIsAGUgNfjQV8wo7CZNfLHnvLF603rnz38N5RiUjPeLXQJQMrVBOfB5aG1NekUaAh56EALw_wcB

I'm not complaining I am asking FHS.

The other roadworks have not bothered me as I can get round them on my bike, or on the odd occasion I need to drive time my journey accordingly and just sit in the traffic with a zen philosophical approach.
-
I just wanted to find out if this was one day or will be like this daily. And alerting others as a community service.

Changing the subject, to another favourite, traffic congestion. Southwark have conspired with British Gas to do some serious road works as you come into Peckham, lasting around 3 months I understand. To be serious - yesterday morning the whole area was gridlocked. I had to walk on the pavement for some of it. I've commuted on this route for a long time and never seen it so bad. Perhaps there was an accident or blockage elsewhere with a knock on effect. I'll be cycling that way next week so it would be good to know if Thursday was a one off. Thanks

I'm in bed by then so hadn't noticed😊

Yes probably rescan. If that doesn't work unplug telly, leave a minute, then turn it on. Whilst plugged in, there must be a miniscule current going in. This reboots it. You can factory reset it, worse case, going through menu, and then scan and reset at worst case.

Too many posts to read so will just say my main points. @Earl Aelfheah no the law doesn't say you have to have majority support @Penguin68 odd comment on NIMBYism . If I had people coming out of borough and using my street for parking, particularly common close to Honor Oak Station. Or using the road to park for school drop off often double yellows, zig zag, across drives*, I'd expect many would support a CPZ. I'd actually apply NIMBYism to those saying that they agree with measures that could discourage driving, unless it affects them.... *Credit to Lambeth and Southwark for having traffic wardens at school start and end. There is a primary school in Lewisham, who generally don't use wardens, that is one way, some parents get there to park really early before it becomes a school street, or reverse out the wrong way to avoid the camera. It's on the border of SE26/SE23 if you want to work it out. @Rockets congestion is dependent on many factors. We've discussed this on previous thread/s where some simple beliefs were debunked. -

Heavens, you must have to excited to go to sleep last night. Sadly you are rather dismissive of anyone saying positive things about LTNs. Funnily enough Izzy's article repeats some of the lazy arguments others present on being 'forced' into driving - nonexistent buses (what???) and public transport being too expensive. We have the best public transport in the country and reasonably priced. I'd of course we wacking fuel duty up to subsidise public transport further but Starmer doesn't want to upset motorists paying historically low fuel prices. Just responding to the post above, are you going to champion every anti LTN campaign? -
At least one - Shambala - does reduced price if you use the coach service which goes from major cities Glastonbury used to have a deal through National Express but that was before it went viral. You can still get combined coach and entry but not sure if there is any discount,

Easy to check if your car for ULEZ https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/ Zip car does a flexible point to point option I usually cycle from a local station when going to festivals, I can get everything on my bike and stunned how much stuff some people take. I've stewarded at festivals in recent year. There are usually shuttles for those going on foot, many for example still get the train to Glastonbury.

Car club will be a better bet if you are an occasional user and hiring if you need to go further. I think once you take the plunge then you wonder why you didn't do it before Just checked minimum age 25 for zip car, no upper age limit
