  1. I was still in Coventry in 1979 and the route we went down was punk to 2-tone etc. mainly because it felt 'home' grown and was still something you could go nuts to while off your tits.

I 'hated' a lot of stuff in the punk era that I like now - might be age or might be the kind of puritanical zeal that was around then - you know the kind of thing, 'real punks don't wear denim... don't take drugs coz they're for hippies (yeah right)... and don't listen to that shit... or that... or that'. Was reminded of this listening to John Lydon sitting in for Jarvis Cockers on the radio last week - a lot of the mainstream tunes he played he prefaced with a little 'forget yer prejudices, it's a good pop tuuune and thas what it's all about' intro.
  4. Ty HB I'm good - shit smells like Honeydew anyway...
  5. Who can tell? I think it may be their upbringing. eta- right about Portishead though.

You don't have to be upset to call a knob a knob. There are a lot of them about and yes - they have been going for years. Still knobs. An observation. 's all.

  9. Jeezus I remember the Disc & Record Mirror mid 70s but moved onto the NME by 76. Got Sounds now and then depending on what was on the cover - always seemed a lot thicker than the other papers - bit unwieldy. All of them must have been cheaply printed cause the ink came off on everything.

  11. Well, suppose I'm mildly delighted Carroll has signed - just can't help wishing he hadn't made it look like he was dragged to Upton Park kicking and screaming.* *Cue the response "Although then he'd have something in common with the average fan" ha ha yes bloody ha.
  12. Anyone know if S4C are the only ones with highlights? Usual whinge to which I know the answer is probably get sky or go to a pub - or I could just forget it and follow it in print - like boxing.

  14. Cardiff h, Newcastle a, Stoke h, Southampton a, Everton h, Hull a - perfect first six to judge whether it'll be another anonymous BFS season. 6-8 points from that lot and it's a yes, more and things may be looking up, any less and were fooked. No pressure. (last six would make for an uncomfortable run-in if things are tight - Liverpool, Arse, Palace, W Brom, Tott, Man C)
  15. If Dimbleby goes do we get a 'slag-off' between Humph and Paxo for the title?

Like craft beer, like real ale, like fizzy cold malty lager too - think it's time to put a hold on the bloody elderflower now though.

The onion rings are big and juicy and they do sell cider; they're doing Orchard Pig - which is the same stuff Green & Blue used to sell - but only in bottles. I spoke to the manager last week and asked him about getting in a still cider on draught - if others want the same thing maybe he will get some. I still like DH and is my preferred place to 'pop in for a jar' type thing but then I've never liked the Bish, don't care too much for the Actress or Gt Exh. and if I wanted 'top shelf' I'd go Tippler.
  22. As has often been pointed out a lot of us use F for hot "Its in the 80s!" and C for cold "It's minus 3!"

    Street Art

...and while we're talking that end of Heber rd., the little piece of ankle-level street-art by the yellow hydrant sign (possibly that chewing gum fellah again?) is worth a stoop-to-view.
