Not being a poetry buff doesn't mean that I don't enjoy any poetry. I just don't claim to be an expert. And I am more than happy not to be a Dylan buff. But yes my wife has absolutely fantastic taste. Good of you to point it out.

I just meant that in my opinion you can't compare the setting of lyrics to music, with the reading of a poem by an actor. Two completely different things. So I disagree that if you follow *bob*'s logic then Shakespeare couldn't have won. And Jah, yeah those are nice lyrics. But that's what they are, lyrics with a good rhyme. If you see that as great poetry, then we disagree on what makes great poetry. Not that I'm a poetry buff by any stretch. My other half loves Dylan and thinks he's a bit of a genius. As I say, I rate him as an amazing songwriter and social commentator at a time of great change. But I just never enjoyed listening to him.
  3. Put it on the other thread, but so what.
  4. These are the lyrics to my favourite Dylan penned song "You speak to me in sign language As I'm eating a sandwich in a small cafe At a quarter to three But I can't respond to your sign language You're taking advantage, bringing me down Can't you make any sound? It was there by the bakery, surrounded by fakery This is my story, still I'm still there Does she know I still care? Link Wray was playing on a jukebox, I was paying For the words I was saying, so misunderstood He didn't do me no good You speak to me in sign language As I'm eating a sandwich in a small cafe At a quarter to three But I can't respond to your sign language You're taking advantage, bringing me down Can't you make any sound?" Now personally reading those words "dry" does nothing for me. But when I listen to the song...

  6. Er, that is not the same logic at all. And if Shakespeare's words had been presented like this at the time, I suspect he wouldn't have been remembered so well

Totally agree with this. He's a great great song writer (that ruins his own songs by insisting on singing them), but I think they could have found a million more deserving writers. And it's not like his ego needs massaging any more.

  9. I wanted them to stay with us l;ast time out. But I am so bloody tired of hearing about Scotland the liberal utopia. A good number of them voted to leave too.

I dunno. I was at a packed out Wembley for a friendly between Liverpool and Barca in the summer. Think people go for the day / night out and the experience.

That is of course until this government fuck up negotiations and all Brit expats get sent home.
  14. My mate and I used to eat cheese and strawberry jam sandwiches when we shared a flat. Sometimes we'd add onion rings if we wanted something hot.
  15. It is crazy that it's gotten this far, and crazier still that he still has a chance of becoming one of the most powerful people in the world. Several women now making allegations of historical sexual assault.

What maxxi said. I still want them to make me care, but I can't even be bothered watching.

Yes, and I hope they do really well and don't need him coming on and getting the winner! Still obviously a good player that should be around, but no longer a starter. Time to look ahead.
  18. Everyone is talking about slightly odd or rotten foods. But are there any off habits, possibly left over from childhood? Mine is the mashing casseroles up with mash potato. See also Cottage / Shepherds pies. Although I did watch in horror recently as my 5 year old stirred ice cream up in to a liquid mess. Yet my sister and I used to do exactly that with that 3 flavor ice cream you used to get.

  21. I used to enjoy the Apprentice in a "they can't seriously think this is going to work can they?" kind of way. But I just can't be bothered anymore.
  22. As a family we love the snowman (and the snowman & snow dog). But we found the show a bit... Meh. Kids loved parts of it, and it's great when they start flying, but it just went on too long. As an aside, I hated the snowman when I was a kid, found it totally boring. Have only fallen in love with it since having my own kids.
  23. KK I do exactly the same. I grew up in a sit around the table at dinner time kind of family. But our household has none of that. The kids have their little table, but it's very rare we'll actually get the dining table set up. I do think my kids like it when we go to my parent's for a sunday roast and donit "properly" though.
  24. Does it have a test button? Maybe hold that to make it go off for a second, and see if that sorts it... Has worked for me in the past, but that wasn't wired in to the mains.
  25. Do you ever eat at home in ways you wouldn't dream of in company? I just made a lovely beef casserole with mash. And being as no one was around, I mashed that bad boy all together on my plate in to one ugly but delicious mess. I then used my finger to wipe up the gravy. Yeah I did! Just one of the things I have done since I was a kid and never grew out of.
