  1. When you register it asks you to type Beckenham backwards. I did as I was asked and typed "Beckenham backwards" and it told me I had gotten the question wrong. Thus proving that it not only lacks a sense of humour, but that it is damaging for the self esteem of it's potential users.
  2. To the OP. Have you posted a link to your site on the Penge Tourist Board facebook page? It is a very active group with lots of users, ad a good number of them are definitely from Beckenham.

  4. I think perhaps the best modern day example of marmite comedy is Mrs Brown's Boys. My parents think it is hilarious. Some people I know who are my age think it's hilarious. It's ratings show that many many people watch it, so presumably think it's hilarious. I am missing the joke.

What I have seen was brilliant.
  7. I remember back in (I think) 2002 (I am sure it was the same time that the big sinkhole opened on Blackheath Hill. Why I remember that I don't know) I went to the ED Comedy when it was at The Mag (when Ron's brother had it). There was this skinny bloke doing the stand up, he may have been Irish but I can't remember. Anyway, there was a pissed up bloke heckling, to the point where it got aggressive. The comedian basically told him to seriously feck off. Pissed bloke then stands up and makes towards the stage. Stand up says "sir if you try to get on this stage I will kick you in the head". Pissed bloke made his way to get on stage, and comedian, true to his word, kicked bloke in the head. It was the funniest thing that happened all night. The comedian seemed genuinely surprised with himself and told us he'd never kicked anyone in the head before. Pissed bloke was removed from the venue.
  8. No doubt. Rape or no rape, it was sleazy and grim.

But the case wasn't available to read when I posted the OP.

Don't want to sound like I'm defending the sleaze bag, just find the whole thing grim yet interesting.

Well I came to the pub fornthe second half. Wish I'd stayed home. Point probably fair.

I can't actually remember what I predicted. THINK I went with my heart and gave it to Liverpool 3-2 or something.
  13. What I find interesting is when comedians just aren't funny anymore. Izzard's absolute peak for me was "Dress to kill" (show he did in San Francisco around 1998/99) it was perfect, and still makes me laugh lots today. I saw him around 2003, and just felt that he wasn't funny anymore. Jack Dee used to crack me up with his dry grumpy act. Then that got old. I think stand ups have a shelf life. I even think Lenny Henry was very funny at one time, but it was very much of it's time (Live & Unleashed was great).

I know exactly how you feel. Have been thinking of watching in the pub, but equally nervous to do so. We need to score more than we conceded is how I see it.
  15. I know, I couldn't believe it. I was worried I was making a huge mistake, but once he'd done that I couldn't wait to get the other one done. Anyway, if this 21 year old, or anyone else is in to tattoos, then I couldn't recommend this place highly enough (and I am in no way connected, just a very satisfied customer).
  16. I remember seeing Sean Lock somewhere in Brixton maybe 12ish years ago. He was very funny. I still like him on telly, he always gives me at least one real laugh. Saw Izzard at the EDT when I was 6th form, so 94 - 96 some time. That was pretty funny. But yeah, also saw some total shite at the EDT, and later The Mag. Speaking of which, the old Hob comedy club (which basically was the original EDT club, is now based in Plumstead where Ron & Emma live. What I've always found is that certain comics get this weird following, usually because they've said some political stuff which the "alternative" crew approve of. Then they can get away with being funny once every 10 tries, and the masses will laugh away like they've said something terribly profound.
  17. Yeah sounds horrible (but nice in a peoplenhelping way). Hope you're feeling better.

Erm, except the case wasn't written about the case.

I don't know how close you are, and how much you want to spend (tattoos are not cheap, at least not good ones), but I know they do gift vouchers. The main guy there (Dave Wilson) is an absolute artist. He specialises in realistic images. I gave him 2 photos of my daughters and he reproduced them on my arms. http://www.rotaryheaven.com/dws-portfolio I've attached one of the pics I gave him, and the tattoo he did of it.
  20. This morning "Hurricane" came on when I jhad itunes on random. Forgot how much I like that song.
  21. Sorry I hadn't seen this page, and Jah has posted the text from the link above.
  22. This is the best thing I've seen written on it. https://thesecretbarrister.com/2016/10/14/10-myths-busted-about-the-ched-evans-case/
  23. The packs are graded in terms of volume, which helps.
  24. That bit of roof in the bottom left corner is enough to make me lose sleep.
  25. We have a daughter who struggles with loud noise, so last year we went to a friend's (who has 2 kids with similar isues) and had a great time with sparklers and "low volume" fireworks. Aldi is the place to go for fireworks (or was last year anyway).
