  1. Yeah the furry thing was... A hasty comment. But I reckon fur is involved?
  2. Safe enough for large furry creatures to live under wooden bridges
  3. A sense that A) as a club, arsenal had genuine cash to compete with manchesters and Chelsea B) Wenger didn't utilise that cash C) a better manager was available Given constraints of the club (transfer money is one thing, wages another... We simply can not compete) no manager I can think of would achieve what he does Get rid of Wenger without changing the boards strategy? Welcome to Aston villa at best.
  4. "Who said you shouldn't shout them down for anything? " probably expressed a bit strongly but you, for example have said "the tabloid press is what it is" and even in your last post "it probably did sell a load of papers and that's what they're paid to do, whether we think it's in good taste or not" the subtext of which, to me, suggests "no point shouting them down about it" also, to say "I disagree for the most part that she has been degraded. Even showing her in a bikini isn't exactly degrading when you consider that she was a model. " seems odd to me. Because if you are her family, do you look at that picture, not in it;'s original context which seems fine to me, but in the context of her still being warm on the slab, you don't think it's out of order?
  5. Jeremy - agree totally This is a news story of some magnitude and it shouldn't be dismissed as mere "celeb-fodder"
  6. "time and place for tongue in cheek comments H?" rereading that it makes it sound like the death of this woman has touched me in a way that the thousands of others hasn't - and that isn't the case Had that front page not happened I wouldn't be commenting either way - but that front page did seem to have a whiff about it that bothered me. Still wasn't commenting - but to see so many people then say nowt really wrong with it....
  7. time and place for tongue in cheek comments H?
  8. Spot on H Also worth pointing out that saying London requires a big and flexible rental market is all well and good, until the rents may as well be mortgages because they too are beyond the means of people wanting to give London a go There will be pain - but do we wait for the bubble to pop and deal with the fallout (a la 2008) or do we try and pro-actively manage it?
  9. Having a tabloid culture (or any paper for that matter) shouldn't give them a free pass Time and again they cross a line and they should be held accountable - if not by any Leveson type recommendations, then their public/customers are well within their rights to shout them down, without being told "oh hush now - you know what they are like" I'm don't want to speak for leaglebeagle but I can say "that cover" bothered me - not because she was known/unknow, or male/female, or only there because she was killed by someone famous What bothered me was that someone, knowing she was dead less than 24 hours, chose the most salacious shot they could find, put it on the front page where, unless you bothered to read the tiny text, she looked for all intents and purposes like she was posing for the Sun itself http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Media/Pix/pictures/2013/2/15/1360932523284/The-Sun-Oscar-Pistorius-f-001.jpg Was she a model? Yes. Was that all she was? No She was a paralegal and applied to the bar in 2011 When Beckham pops his clogs, the front page ain't gonna be this http://ris.fashion.telegraph.co.uk/RichImageService.svc/imagecontent/1/TMG8991439/m/becks-1_2099211a.jpg Why would that be? Could they not find any pics of her doing anything else? Please... The sun published these pics and knew a) it would outrage people (who they could dismiss as PC) b) sell more copies Their call - but don't suggest we can't call them out on it The mentality that thinks it's ok to put that picture on a front page less than 24 hours after they were shot? I'm guessing the sort of person who shoots women has that as part of their mental make-up already...
  10. I watched the milwall game on the isle of digs today. Proppa
  11. Not in least surprised for some reason. And by same reason, I expect a result against bayern Such is our topsy turvy world Going out of both cups against lower league oppo is shocking tho But final straw? Not for me. Not by a long chalk
  12. I realise that by even engaging in a topic and expressing a preference one way or another, it can seem as if a discussion is binary, It can seem as if I am "TOTALLY AGAINST THIS SORT OF THING" In reality I'm more like *bob* and his laissez-faire approach Most of the things people mention on here do aggravate - but only tiny micro-readings on the aggrometer. Apart from people who put their bag on another seat ? they can F*** right off I guess I engaged with this particular point precisely because of the apparent "why?" factor. It clearly does bother some people and it clearly surprises other people why that might be "Why should people adopt an apologetic demeanour for this activity and not for any other? It's utterly nonsensical that people should care that you don't approve. I hate the Metro - it's rubbish. But I don't judge people for not asking my permission to read it in my presence." Introducing the "asking for permission" is interesting - no-one is suggesting any such thing. Can we take it that you might judge people for reading the metro at all? Maybe you do maybe you don't - but noone mentioned asking for permission I hope LadyD's response was in jest - if it was serious it's frankly as misguided and bizaare as those homophobes and their "backs to the wall lads" banter. The gender of the people in question is irrelevant. As is their "readiness" But if I had to express why it bothers me at all, it would be something like, we all have to leave the house in the morning and we all sort of accept that we aren't at home anymore so we do those things - washing our pits, brushing our teeth, shaving (and I would include make-up here) - before we leave the house. because it sort of seems anti-social otherwise. Why wouldn't you do your make-up before leaving the house? Would you genuinely not judge a bloke for shaving on the bus? That would be totally ok? Every tut at the driver for braking, every swearword at a bump, from people applying make up on a bus makes me wonder how some people became so entitled But by all means carry on if that's what you want. You don't need anyones permission. And hopefully Boris won't add it to his banned list. Worth noting that even the much-missed and beknighted HonaloochieB found it aggravating http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/search.php?0,search=%22make+up+on+the+bus%22,page=1,match_type=ALL,match_dates=0,match_forum=ALL
  13. That IS rather the impression people give Which might be what aggravates people more than the makeup itself

  15. I wouldn't go quite as dar as saying Celtic were superb but nor did I think it was men against boys. 2nd goal obviously deflated Celtic but the holding in the box for each corner was beyond a joke. When Arsenal had a player sent off for this recently I was hacked off not because I disagreed with the decision (I'd love to see this reduced in the game) but because I knew it was a rare instance of it, and that much worse examples would go unpunished I think celtic fans have every right to be aggrieved This isn't to say that I thought Juventus were poor - I do agree with the "organised, skilled, tactically astute" bit
  16. Openly gay, surely *Bob*? Or are you saying you know that none of the previous popes haven't been?

  22. * double whooooooosh *
  23. so judgemental, some people have you not thought that it MIGHT be a cyborg, sent back from the future? And as we KNOW (thanks terminator films) clothes don't come with you, so at least these models have procured some pyjamas, perhaps from a nearby washing line, and are on the lookout for upgrades?
  24. "Harrison Ford was up for revisiting Indie not long ago, so can't see why he wouldn't be up for revisiting Han Solo" isn't that a case of disproving your own point tho? Anyone count that last Indy film as worthy ?
