  1. I wouldn't be too surprise if City played their three strikers against Man U. Man U must be wetting themselves.
  2. @Louisa The proposed channel tunnel rail link in Peckham led to Rye Lane's decline as Railtrack bought leases in the surrounding area. So of course the big retailers moved out. Once the redevelopment was defeated Railtrack then sold the leases to smaller retailers as the larger retailers were no longer interested. Furthermore, Surrey Quays shopping opened, adding further pressures on Rye Lane.
  3. Rye Lane was known as the golden mile. The rich and the celebrities used to shop there. There were also three big department stores: Jones & Higgins, Co-op and Holdrons. Sadly, part of Holdrons' located on the corner of Rye Lane and Bournemouth Road, is being knocked down. For those who don't know Holdrons it was owned between John Lewis and Selfridges. You can still see where Marks & Spencer sign used to be when you stand opposite Argos and look up.
  4. James, I don't think Boris had a choice in the matter since the ELLX2 was subjected to the Comprehensive Spending Review in 2010 and consequently the projected completion date delayed until the end of 2012. All of these information are in the public domain btw. The current work is running under budget and ahead of schedule. All good news so far.
  5. I've given an appropriate response, Loz.
  6. I'm beginning to get the feeling that the free market is about creating modern forms of slavery. So we're poorer in that respect.

I agree. The common denominators are striking from high unemployment, oppression of people, distraction tactics to wealth transfer with the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer. Taper and Hugo wants to do small picture arguments but they don't stack up on the grander scale.
  9. NK had made clear that the UK was able to swallow free market policies after Margaret Thatcher had won the Falklands War and defeated the unions. Maggie Thatcher was a fan of free market policies long before she took on the Argentinians and unions. Klein herself says at the start that her work is 'an attempt to create an alternative history', which implies that her view is a selective interpretation of events to suit her own agenda. It's up to you whether you imagine this agenda is to save the world, or sell her books. Looking into Klein's background she had spent two years in Argentina where she learned how the free market policies impacted on local people. Her brief is simply about exposing free market policies and how ordinary people, like most people on this forum, loses out in the end. What does that mean? Well it's an interesting 'alternative history' (as Klein puts it), but painfully selective and highly distorting. The 'alternative history' is an attempt to look at free market policies history from an objective point of view. Nothing distortional I'm afraid. It was the people, the nation that wanted change, no conspiracy was necessary. Not quite true, Hugo. Maggie Thatcher was an admirer of free market policies. The Falklands war and a right wing press influenced people's thinking and made them more receptive to free market policies.
  10. * yawn *
  11. My private life is none of your business AC. I couldn't crae less if my posts makes you laugh. I must admit I do find your posts rather dull. :))
  12. http://forum.talkchelsea.net/topic/11344-eva-carneiro-appreciation-thread/ I was doing a bit of talent spotting on the Chelsea bench and came across Eva Carneiro, their hot Doctor. Makes me wonder why Chelsea haven't performed well this season due to their growing injury list.
  13. @MM, I see that you've already misrepresented my words to make a cheap political point. I wonder if your libertarian belief is really just a smoke screen for greed. LD is absolutey right that you should watch the film before offering remarks. Otherwise it shows how narrow minded you are.
  14. It's not an ego, Otta, it's self-empowerment that have evolved over a long period of time. The best bit is that I can make the inform decisions unlike the don't know any betters.
  15. I've only watch half of the programme. It was fascinating so far. I didn't know that General Pinochet was the first to banned milk in schools. His friendship with Margaret Thatcher wasn't just a coincidence now then, Marmora Man? You can also trace the Tory and Chilean's policies back to the economist Milton Friedman. Policies resulting in the selling of government assets (privatisation), high unemployment, increase wealth distribution to the rich and increasing levels of poverty.
  16. Okay AM, I think I understand your game plan. I'm sorry if you don't have the same level of skill in analysing matters. I've been doing this type of analysing for such a long period of time and get them right all of the time. Guessing is for people like what Otta and you do. You wouldn't catch me on this forum asking for advice like buying an electric shaver or how to transfer data from a hard drive. That's because I'm capable in thinking for myself and able to carry out basic research. I don't like commercial music. I refuse to buy products based on brands as brands means absolutely nothing to me. It's up to you whether you want to keep up with your game plan. But in my experience people like yourself tend to fizzle out in time. I won't be changing for sure.
  17. Otta accused me of making up the facts surrounding the Suarez case. I've always maintained that Evra: - conducted himself with dignity - had witness statements from his team mates - had video footage to support his case - himself was a victim of racist behaviour
  18. Here's a tune to cheer you up: Roy Ayers - Don't stop the feeling
  19. I'll make it easier for you then, Otta. I was right and you were completely wrong.

  21. Prison is just a finishing school for rookie criminals. It cost around ?50k to house each prisoner and most reoffend after leaving prison anyway. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/500000-crimes-a-year-by-repeat-offenders-2376582.html
  22. Perhaps I've taken a different view because I've grew up with lads who were essentially good but turned to crimininal activities in their late teens. "Though i'm getting rather cynical & hardened to the "he was a good kid" strap line. " It must be the book by David Lammy you're reading, Nette.
  23. The person who died seems to be a good kid. Mim Shaikh shares his thoughts on his blog http://mimshaikh.wordpress.com ./about/
  24. At those odds it looks very interesting. I think Spurs could have been at the top of the table. Firstly, the games against the Manchester clubs came too soon (their first two games) while the two Manchester clubs had played competitively (charity shield? and opening game of the season). Secondly, they were very unlucky against Stoke. Thirdly, Spurs have one of the finest quartet of midfielders in the country. Fourthly, Spurs have some good youngsters. It might be a two horse race atm but bear in mind about Man U's growing injury list and City's jitters could result in them in dropping points.
  25. Tottenham is looking good at third place with two games in hand.
