  1. What happened to the Sport shop on the left hand side as you walked up Lordship Lane? They used to have another branch along Deptford Broadway.
  2. Bags are free, Foxy. No need to go to Asda.
  3. the photo must have been taken around 1982.
  4. Computedshorty knows a lot about Peckham. Perhaps I'll send him a pm for more info. Really like the Woolworth's shop front.
  5. Utd may have won but it wasn't a convincing one despite City being a man down.
  6. I second Crispej as well. They have a huge warehouse just off Bird in the Bush Road.
  7. I rarely do my shopping with Waitrose these days as, like you charliecharlie, I too recognises the great range of food from the independents. There are lots of quality food about if you know what to look for rather than the brand name. As for M & S their food is utter rubbish. Recently I bought their tender stem broccolli that tasted like cardboard. Their English muffins were soggy.
  8. Although Liverpool had handled the Suarez matter badly I sincerely hope they don't link the fan's racist behaviour to the club. The fan should know better in this day and age.
  9. People tend to forget that Spurs had a unsettling start to the season when Modric was under serious transfer speculation. It's not surprising they lost by a large margin to the two Manchester teams in their first two games. Look what happened to Arsenal with their unsettled start to the season. Spurs have shown tremendous character to get this far in the season. A win against City will give Spurs a teriffic boost to their confidence and belief. It'll be a tight game at 1-0 to either side I think.
  10. Personally, I'd follow tog-in-sox 'otherwise' suggestion. That way you see where the problem could be in terms of hardware or software. For example if, after a clean installation of windows, the slow start up persists then this suggest a hardware problem such as motherboard (bios) or HDD. If start up is successful then install one additional software for each test for startup speed to see which software is causing conflict.
  11. Talking about splitting hairs. I think we're going around in circles because we're looking at different ends of the spectrum.
  12. It seems you're intent in misconstruing my words, El Pibe. Please read the thread properly then everything fits in context. @brandnewguy I'm not doubting the impartiality of the Tribunal panel. Far from it. They have a union rep, a personnel rep and a chairman. But it's the process they have to follow in reaching a conclusion that's against the employee. Also, the employers would have better legal representation to fight their cases.
  13. I'll be really surprised if a modern hard drive can be filled with just browsing data.
  14. Not sure if Jah Lush agrees, but I think Spurs' defence is just as good as the best in the premiership. I never thought I would say that in my lifetime. I'm looking forward to the game involving Spurs v Man City on the 22nd. A defining moment for both teams. Interesting tug of war type game with Spurs playing with wingers and City pushing up their full backs. If Spurs have a weakness then it's because they don't score enough goals.
  15. @El Pibe I think you better go back to sleep. You appeared to be somewhat confused since you haven't folowd the thread properly. The poor are getting poorer because: 1) tax laws favours the rich 2) workers are paid less while CEOs are paid a lot more. Under the free market the banks have exploited the poor by offering them loans they could't really afford to pay back. The sub-prime mortgage scandal in the USA as part of the banking crisis is a really good example. @BrandNewGuy, I'd be surprised if anyone can understand employment law in half a day. Why employ lawyers if it was so true? The problem with the law is that they don't involved on who is right/wrong but whether the process of dismissal was fair. Therefore the case sometimes depends on the contract of employment. Guess who writes the contract? This is just one example but there are plenty of other reasons.

Steveo said the HDD just had a few word files and emails so there should be plenty of capacity left. Even for a three year old system. @dulwichfox, the software mentioned aren't rogue ones at all. In fact they're highly recommended by those in the know.
  17. Here's the other end of Rye Lane. The funeral pocession shown was related to the Leysdown tragedy in 1912 and included a distant relative of David Beckham. http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm223/Paulwp/Scoutfuneral600x422.jpg

The price of hard drives are not cheap as chips anymore ever since Thailand suffered their worse flooding in living memory. Forty per cent of all hard drives are made in Thailand. HDDs manufacturers are predicting that prices for drives will normalise bythe end of 2012.
  19. The poor person today have too much debts to pay for their current lifestyle, Loz. Politics of envy? More like politics of greed. And that greed stems from robbing the poorer people.
  20. I had a similar issue with my laptop three years ago. Tried every trick in the book to increase the startup time. Eventually isolated the problem where there was a conflict between the firewall and antivirus software on startup. My current system starts up in twenty seconds. But I'm hoping to reduce this time to around fourteen seconds once I've played around with the settings and reduce the number of startup programs.

Huguenot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Well the courts found that 45,700 out of 50,900 > (89.7%) of cases were not justified. > It's a case whether the claim is robust enough to stand the legal loops. The 'not justified' bit only reflects your ignorance on this matter Hugo. The system is very much against the employee when it comes to taking a claim to an Employment Tribunal.
  22. @grumpoldman I'm not in favour of clone towns but I do feel Rye Lane could do with a greater diversity of shops as this would cater for all kinds of shoppers and helps capture wealth within the local economy. Rye Lane was unique because Jones & Higgins wasn't a chain store and we also had a massive Co-op. The pavements were chock-a-block with shoppers during the Christmas period.
  23. Ah Hugo, sadly once again you've misread my post and not surprisingly made some outrageous untrue accusations once again. The point I was making is that for many people today buying a house is beyond them. Throwing 1970s home ownership stats is irrelevant and is not going to make them feel any better, don't you think? While it's true there are more laws protecting employees applying them is an entirely different matter. For example 50,900 unfair dismissal claims were brought in 2009/10 but only 5,200 were successful at a tribunal and compensation awarded in those claims was relatively low. So basically the odds in winning a case is one in ten with little reward. The World Health Organization says by 2020, depression will be the leading disability for all ages and both sexes.
  24. Obama would make a great stand up
  25. Nothing of the sort, Loz. I'm not convince the poor in this day are better off. With consumer debts at record highs, house purchase beyond the reach of many people, abusive employers, and increase levels of mental illnesses. Furthermore youngsters feeling desolute about their future. My parents were poor but they managed to buy a house before the Maggie Thatcher era.
