  1. UPDATE... London Bridge station may re-open at 19.00hrs this evening or the emergency services may choose to re-open it at 07.00hrs tomorrow morning ? Cannon Street station is also closed and most services will be running out of/going into London Victoria. Full details of all services affected are on the National Rail website www.nationalrail.co.uk
  2. From the Southern Railway site: Due to a major fire involving gas cylinders at a premises in Blue Anchor Lane in South-East London this morning, all railway lines between New Cross, New Cross Gate and London Bridge have been closed to train services. This is likely to cause major disruption to mainline and suburban services in and out of London Bridge, London Cannon Street, London Charing Cross and London Waterloo East. Arrangements are being made to divert as many trains as possible into London Victoria and London Blackfriars stations, and Southern ticket holders will be allowed to use all reasonable bus, tube and Docklands Light Railway routes to help complete their journeys. But delays and cancellations are inevitable, possibly for the next 24 hours, and so passengers are advised to check before making journeys in and out of London. Southern tickets are being accepted on London Buses, London Underground and Docklands Light Railway.
  3. So now we finally know snorky's real name!
  4. One of the Junior Birdseye's has Chicken Pox, covered head to toe in spots. Baby birdseye is, however, currently spot-free. I hear it's doing the rounds, so if you haven't had it yet beware!
  5. Having a bit of a clear-out here. Anyone want any of the following before they head off to the Charity Shop? Arthur Golden - Memoirs of A Geisha Rose Tremain - Music and Silence John Le Carre - Absolute Friends
  6. BBC News reporter John Pienar (sp?) was at the Fair on Sunday.
  7. Le Moulin are expanding into it.
  8. It's on More4 tonight at 9.
  9. Aargh, the squash game! All 14 pages of it!
  10. I'll swap you 3 William Roses for 1 (rare) Moxon. Back on topic though... I too visited the fair, looked in on the Forum tent but was too shy to say hello. Also I didn't want to get beaten up as I was pushing a hated 3-wheel buggy at the time. Chili guy got some money out of us, probably because he was really nice to our toddler (who had just had her face painted as a cat), but also cause that Harrisa tasted pretty special. I see that a "Green" shop is opening up next to SMBS food. Selling eco versions of the usual Lordship Lane fare.
  11. Stephen Carr - what a waste of space. LOUNGED!
  12. I seem to be in a minority when it comes to McEwan. I just don't see what all the fuss is about, I find his work painfully contrived.
  13. I read it, what a pile of turd it was too. I think it was written before the horror that was "My Hero", which explains why I handed over real money for a copy.
  14. McEwan! :X He makes my blood boil. I read Enduring Love and hated it. Thought I'd give him a second chance and read Saturday and hated it. The man has wasted enough of my precious reading time and is now on my banned authors list. Still enjoying the Book of Love, it's actually getting quite exciting, which I hadn't expected.
  15. I thought I'd heard that the train companies were finally about to buy-in to Oyster. Think it was in the Evening Standard a month or so ago...
  16. Kite Runner was indeed very good, a real page-turner. I'm now reading The Book Of Love by Nicole Krauss, very well written and enjoyable.
  17. I did try, honest. On the third listen I had to turn it off half way through as it was doing my head in! I find his voice really grating.
  18. I hope it's better than Neutral Milk Hotel... *takes cover*
  19. Errr, yeah, obviously when I said it was pretty good errr, what I meant was that it's really crap. To be honest I tend to avoid traditional man-made music, preferring instead the sound of falling trees.
  20. Just listened to that new LCD album, pretty good. Also heard the new Maximo Park, pretty bad. And new Arctic Monkeys, pretty sure I don't know what to make of it.
  21. Fair enough Louisa, I've fallen into the trap of lazy stereotyping. The incidents I mentioned involved bored, local youths who didn't have home counties accents. Salt of the earth types I'm sure. ;-)
  22. Despite there being so few of them Louisa they still manage to: - Spit strawberry milk on my car door - Throw water-ballons through my open windows - Throw fizzy cans at my front window - Knock empty boxes from my neighbour's front garden into the street - Cycle deliberately slowly in front of cars in the middle of the road on Lordship Lane - Swear at random passers-by All incidents I have been subjected to/witnessed in the last couple of years. I would gladly swap all of these with you in return for a so-called Yummy Mummy not thanking me in the street.

Why don't you take it up with the offending people then, rather than lump together a vast group of people into a lazy stereotype? If I were to post the same post as you just have and substituted "yummy types" for "chavs" and "home counties" for "cockney" I would (quite rightly) be heavily criticised.
  24. I suggest that you should stay at home Louisa, all this rage can't be doing your blood pressure any good ;-)
