  1. Eileen, I like Peckham Rye station on paper, but please could you tell me why the grafitti not removed as soon as it is sprayed on? There is stuff that has been there for ages and it really brings the place down.
  2. One for the Southwark Bugle, methinks. Jumpin Journo should get onto this.
  3. At least Tesco will keep is forecourts clean and not have grubby white vans parking outside, blocking the road on an all-too regular basis, nor throw refuse such as bits of dead animals, rotten fruit and veg or cardboard boxes onto the pavement and the roadway, a la Rye Lane vendors.
  4. Sophia Loren; Suzie Birchall (mid-to-late 70s Corrie uber-minx); Billie Jean King; Kate Bush; Cindy Wilson; Ellen Degeneres; Germaine Greer; Maya Angelou; Aung San Suu Kyi
  5. Queues exist at Waterloo station at rush hour, where the commuters file up in a very orderly fashion. Elsewhere it's rare to find them. People on LL and fairly good at lining up, or at least acknowledging the person who was there before them and allowing them to board first.
  6. My boyfriend heard the screams and leapt out of bed to run to the window. Saw a guy chasing him off down the road. Did he get a description? (!)
  7. To all those who scoff at the threat of a new variety of flu - please stop pretending that you and the rest of us are in control of nature. We are not. Why tell ourselves that an almost pandemic of a new type of virus is not a big deal because it just makes you feel a bit crap for a few days? Who is to know what might happen in the autumn or if we have a damp summer? I am not panicking, but I am making sure I stay as healthy and as clean as I can and any sensible person would do the same - wiht minimum fuss and maximum common sense.
  8. those pork ids. hope they get better soon - The best pun so far, I think. As for the flu. Keep calm, and carry on.....WASHING YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY AND NOT SNEEZING AND COUGHING ALL OVER THE SHOP. Who knows whether it will come back in the autumn and cause us many more problems, or whether it will fizzle out. Either way, and even if you do think that the news media have over emphasised its importance, at least it has shown just how a pandemic might develop. London is a crowded place whose populace is from all over the world. Let's hope the paper hankie manufacturers seize on this to try to persuade people to catch their germs in a tissue, whether those germs be those of the common cold or a killer porcine superbug.
  9. I saw the Emirates one the other week, right over Dunstan's/Goodrich area. And the Qantas one I spotted in the distance a few weeks before that. Saw one right close up in Sydney - massive!
  10. When I was a kid in Stockport, we'd say 'White Rabbit, White Rabbit, bring me luck!'. Is Pinch, Punch etc specific to a certain area of Britain? I'd never heard of it till I went to university.
  11. It's a timely reminder for us to be more courteous when sneezing and coughing around others, by using a tissue, and for us to improve our personal hygiene. Large numbers of blokes don't wash their hands after the lav, at least according to my evidence, and those that do tend to just run their fingers under the cold water tap. A fifteen-second wash with hand-hot water and soap, rinsing well after washing the finger tips and in between the digits and the wrists should get rid of a lot of dirt and germs. I wash my hands before eating and after being on the bus/tube if I can, as well as after being in the gym and going to the toilet.
  12. Franklins has a lunch menu for ?16.50 I think Mo-Fr. G and B does cake and coffee/tea deals for ?3.50 during the week, or have been doing recently at least.
  13. Try London Bridge to Hildenborough or Ashurst. It's pretty flat and nice and countryfied around there. Return about ?13 or so. (Hildenborough is faster and quicker).
  14. Divine cocoa powder, organic peanut butter, organic bananas, single cream and milk - preferably organic.
  15. You lucky thing! I used to live there back in the 80s. It has changed a lot. I'd recommend taking out 'Empire of the Sun' to read on the plane and to watch on DVD before you go, then have a cycle around the French concession area, near the Jin Jiang hotel, when you get there. Also, take a look at the Peace Hotel, which is very touristy, I know, but which does have a certain gin-fizz charm. The urban planning museum sounds like a nerd nirvana, but it is a very interesting exhibition of how the city planners want the city on the sea to look like.
  16. I am not going to be a nay-sayer because our station controller is doing a great job, but it does sadden me that we go into paroxysms of praise when someone is being effective and open and doing his job well. I am not having a go at you who have praised him, just pointing out that it's a sad state of affairs when that is the norm.
  17. They don't grin like loons, but neither do they scowl. Upstairs is pin-drop silent, which is to be commended.
  18. Hello Please keep the station (E Dulwich) clean on a daily basis. Reinstate the bins and please clean up the walkways - behind the wires - every week. And if you can, do all you can to deter people from putting their feet on the seats opposite - it annoys me and so many others. Coudl you get your managers to ask your drivers people not to do it, or put stickers on the walls? The train service is usually good, but it could be made better very easily by clearing things up at the station and on the trains.
  19. Former, and a whole lot of them. Green-lipped mussels are good but I prefer the smaller ones. Nice chips too - not those ones made from frozen and fried in awful oil that then repeats on your (like most fries in restaurants now).
  20. The shop that was the sports shop, I think, near to the video shop, is to be a barber's. It has a poster in the window saying so. Wish it well (now that I have a tash that needs grooming!)
  21. 20stone, just have a quiet word with the manager, telling him/her that other people have expressed similar views to yours on the EDF. It's unlikely that writing on here will effect any change to the cafe.
  22. Steering this sharply back on topic, I'd say that the 'nouveau' MPC should be without its rather uncomfy chairs and tables, have good waitrers/waitresses who speak and understand English well, not play background music and provide well-made food at reasonable prices. Right now, I avoid it because it's just too narrow and ill-lain out - the food prep area takes up too much of the floorspace. Green and Blue's layout and furniture are good, so that might be a start.
  23. Light is fine, but cars speed and don't always stop at the zebra near to Goodrich. Cd do with a few more litter bins.
  24. They have them in China, wheer they are very popular with older people. They think nothing of rowing, x-training and the like. Can't see it catching on here, I am afraid.
  25. I moan and complain when appropriate, and find it gets results. I praise and compliment when appropriate, and find it gets results. Both are easy and free - a boon in these credit-crunched times, eh?
