  1. So what will the route be, then? I have tried to find it but there are a plethora of sites that show updates and reviews, meaning that I have no idea which is the definitive route. Could anyone provide the correct link please?
  2. I asked the bloke doing the work in the blue corner place what it was going to be. He said it would be a restaurant and that the man who owns the building lives upstairs, and that a restaurant provides the most rental. Didn't say what type of food it would be serving.
  3. As well as good food, good service is a must. Don't cram too many people in, don't have waitresses or waiters that can't understand what people are saying, be clean and be efficient. I never went to Anatolia before, but I will give it a go if it looks good. I suspect people on here will want a starter, main, couple of drinks and a coffee for about ?25 or less, including service (10% - and let us decide whether we want to pay it or not!). Good luck and keep us posted.
  4. Went past on the bus this morning. Stickers on the brown paper covering up the windows promise an exciting relaunch. I'll wait and see before I take their word for it.
  5. "heterosexual action"? In a loo? Oh plz! Reminds me of a headline in a Not the Nine O' Clock News book - Lesbian Lavatory Lust.
  6. The very bottom line is that food is now fetishised or feared in the United Kingdom. People are much less active and much more self-indulgent than they were thirty or more years ago. Common sense and a bit of judicious research (not sleb-endorsed features in Heat or - and this is the best - Thingy Nolan on BBC Breakfast telling us about the dangers of saturated fats {who next - Amy Winehouse on You and Yours telling us about our daily alcohol limits?} tells me that limiting sugar and reducing, but not eliminating fat and alcohol, and talking regular, sweat-inducing exercise, is the way to keep healthy and prevent some conditions and diseases from developing.
  7. "I bought a sausage-roll in Greggs in Lewisham last year. Louisa would have been proud of me. It was easily the worst thing I have ever eaten" Do you know that there are branches of Greggs in Brussels? Shamefully, it's true. +Handbrake turn+ On topic, I have no idea why people live shorter lives in Nunhead.
  8. Iceland is good for some stuff, like discounted (and branded) toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo etc. Their milk, yoghurt, cream and probiotic drinks are really good value, as is toilet roll, frozen prawns, peas etc and tinned beans, chickpeas and the like. There are hardly any queues, you can get freerange eggs for ?1.25 and the check out woman calls you 'babe'.
  9. Another one
  10. So is the new Somerfield going to be under the new flats and where the old car supplies shop used to be?
  11. I got two deliveries this morning in the space of ninety minutes or so.
  12. Could it be a fab new organic sausage restaurant?
  13. Then the woman was wrong, then. Glad the mail's got through.
  14. Maybe the woman was wrong? Hope so.
  15. Perhaps then it is only some sections of the post code? I am near G'rich School. We'll see.
  16. My firm has been great. Some people literally battled their way in through the blizzarding snow - one walked 7 miles, starting at 7 am. Most made an effort, even if it was eventually thwarted. A car pool was set up and (cheap) rooms were booked for staff who finished late or started early. I was allowed a taxi back home (which I shared with the snow-battling colleague). The bosses were appreciative, thanking us for our efforts.
  17. They've been cancelled again, for the third day. The central Royal Mail number I called was answered by a woman who checked, and said that it could well be for health and safety reasons. The decision would have been taken by the manager at Silvester Road.
  18. I think the shop owners, if they haven't already, should do the same. Perhaps some of them have. If so, great. If not, not great. It takes a bit of salt and a few minutes' efforts. If you are shop owner or manager and haven't done so, at least give it some thought.
  19. The 12 was running to Peckham Rye yesterday afternoon, at which point the driver told us to take a 197. I walked a bit, got the 363, which took me down Barry Road rather than up Forest Hill Road where I had expected it to go. I'd prefer it if the bus info system would tell me these things, but I have lowered my expectations of British public services over the past ten years. (As a result, I don't spend too much energy whining about how it used to be.)
  20. Mayor Boris Johnson has just said the London congestion charge is to be suspended today
  21. Listen to BBC London. It usually has a service on local shutdowns.
  22. I am in work, but not able to get back. Hopefuly we'll get a cab back. My colleague walked in from Nunhead (to Aldqych) through the falling snow, starting off at 6 this morning. I got a lift.
  23. It's being renovated or gutted, at the least. Looks quite spacious inside. What might it be? Anyone know? Hopefully it'll add a little more life to that stretch.
  24. Vietnamese, please.
  25. No, it is not appropriate to tip the Ocado/Tesco/Sainsbury's man. Say thanks, mean it, smile; that should do it.
