  1. The challenges of running a small business are significant but to take some of Huguenot's examples I wonder what would happen in this hypothetical 2 person business if it was he who was the person long term sick? Genuine question btw As for people "working to rule" - this is your passion, your dream and ultimately your prize (that car is still to be bought?). You are paying people to do a job, not share the dream. If you are lucky you will meet people who have enough empathy with the dream but you shouldn't judge them or resent paying them if they have a life outside that You pay someone X amount for Y hours ? fair exchange. If you want more from them why not say I?ll pay x+ if you agree to work y+ at the interview/contract stage? If everyone was like you, your business would probably fail a lot faster with all of the competition. Drones are important ? steady, reliable and get jobs done
  2. Jess - to be fair to showboat several people have cited exactly that reason as proof of an alarming rise in crime in the area on other threads - so he/she isn't lacking perspective. Have a look at most of the crime related threads and you will see evidence of that You've posted some good stuff on here tho, been through a nasty experience and I think everyone is in broad agreement so it would be a shame if this descended to petty argument (that's not aimed at you either! just a general comment)
  3. You say that as if it has any significance to anyone but them?
  4. The reason I mentioned a "big" bank was just to counter "Succesful modern businesses are quite the opposite: agile, highly responsive to market demands and small " I'm aware that smaller operations are a different beast - but nor are they the only solution Yours A Drone
  5. Ok, maybe I was being unfair on Tarot. Tarot isn?t upsetting everyone But sure as hell is annoying me
  6. imagine having the sort of acquaintance who asked you this Stop trolling, tarot, you're pissing everyone off
  7. take your pick keef (hmm same search terms 5 mins later shows much different results - still a few about the incident further down the page tho) although I see there are other stories there about him pushing a fan as well and let's not even bring up the nightclub incident again
  8. Twirly and MrTwirly - I wish you both all the best, but if you carry on posting as you do, I wouldn't count those anniversary chickens just yet ;-) ahem
  9. I think Grant has always carried himself well. I've never really bought into the Stevie G thing but what little time I had for him vanished when he pushed Grant out of the way during the Liverpool Chelsea game yes he needed the ball asap but no way can you imagine him pushing any other manager like that
  10. It's like Christmas - thanks for the time off work and everything but I'll skip the mass/celebration thing if it's all the same
  11. Jess - glad to hear you are unhurt re: things getting worse - as long as the forum has existed we have had "what is happening to ED?" threads from 2007 in a big city, crimes like this will always happen. We shouldn't JUST accept it but we shouldn't assume things are spiralling out of control either
  12. but of course, but I couldn't resist the opportunity anyway dry your eyes mate
  13. sounds horrific Huguenot - I mean sure, the people not employed by you are losing out, but more importantly your business must be suffering if you haven't got enough people for the job or by not employ do you mean the ones you contract? I see a lot of businesses in London doing very well with employees. I know of a big bank that has cut back as many of it's contractors as possible and flipped them to full-time staff When did campaigners go too far with their rights? Was it the 40 hour week? Sick pay? Maternity leave? Paid holidays? When did it go too far? We must stop this madness!
  14. I thought in the first half last night there was plenty of passion from West Ham - more than I saw from Arsenal last Saturday for sure I think belief has been missing at Upton Park but it seems to be coming back...
  15. I understand why West Ham fans haven?t been won over by him, but he has a decent record at Chelsea and Portsmouth and I think he can do a job given more time I never like to see West Ham go down anyway but there are more than 3 teams I?d rather see take their place this year
  16. Fortuitous win for West Ham last night, but the 5-0 loss aside the team seems to have found some momentum, spirit and perhaps most importantly, luck Would now be a bad time to sack Grant?
  17. et tu Rosie?
  18. How many people can start a thread about the number of estate agents in the lane being boring, without any fucking irony Jesus wept
  19. well that's not true. instead of everything going to the same profit merchants I know for a fact that my stuff goes to different people who happen to have a need. This makes me and them happier
  20. depends where you are on Barry Rd really but if Upland Rd is close enough the p4 goes to and from there
  21. on the subject of sound quality, anyone interested enough in the subject should find Perfecting Sound Forever a pretty good read.
  22. I though the dial-a-disc reference was a simple dig at MP3 format (which was the real reason behind Kingy's indignation about the original request I suspect)
  23. I would say just posting "thievery" is neither helpful nor watertight in it's unambiguity The bottom line is it's illegality is open to question, with many people aware that it's a leftover from vinyl days. it's out of step with many places in the world and won't be illegal for much longer The companies who tried to inmplement some CD protection systems broke the law Nobody on here is advocating "piracy" http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/features/cyberclinic-is-it-really-illegal-to-rip-a-cd-to-my-computer-769184.html http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bargains-and-rip-offs/article.html?in_article_id=500206&in_page_id=5
  24. No she didn't - she posted a perfectly legitimate question your first post in the whole debate simply said "thievery" which doesn't chime very well with your pompous "Dear Rosie H it would be nice if you actually read what is written - I did not call you a thief "
  25. And kingy To have been involved in a slanging match with someone is one thing - you both exchanged verbals - but you are now going OTT and constantly coming back JUST to be rude to the OP Stop it
