  1. So long as you don't run into Rod Liddle Best places to drink/eat is subjective - plenty of food stops but only restaurant I would recommends as worth travelling to is Franklins. Palmerston is very good as well Drinks - I quite like most of the bars during the day time but a few get a bit much of a weekend evening. As mentioned, come along to the monthly forum drinks and you'll meet plenty of people from different fields with wildly differing opinions!
  2. I never answered the question either - sorry. We lived on Friern Rd (parallel to Crystal Palace Rd) for 8 years up until months ago - my partner in her 20s for most of it and she never once had a problem. She travels home alone as well We have no intention of leaving the area either - a few conversation in the past have revolved around the topic and I agree with those who say it's considerably safer than or as safe as most parts of London
  3. Hi Sally - best of luck with the move. What line of work are you in btw?
  4. what sort of sick twisted woman are you LadyG!!! I don't think so, certainly none in my posession.
  5. Watching well-heeled commuters bypass the newsagents and pick up a free Metro every morning
  6. sometimes you really pick the wrong moment Tony
  7. why are you so convinced it's government that makes for a harsh environment, tb? My contention is that simple physics and numbers is making the environment harsh. The volume of cars on the road, increasing exponetially is the issue. If car parks were unregulated for example some people would just abuse it and exclude everyone else. If people were more considerate then councils/government wouldn't need to spend so much time dealing with the fallout
  8. Oh I dunno Bren - in the fullness of time both will be remembered as people who talked a good game, produced a small number of albums with a smaller number of half-decent tunes but ultimately amounted to footnotes
  9. to be fair MM, they were neither comprehensive solutions nor well received What does "better staff and support" mean in real terms for example. And how does that make things better for constituents?
  10. You don't know the half of it Moos
  11. SimonM's taste is impeccable Can I be a heretic and say that Chrissie Hynde has always irritated me? Like her fans I appreciate the strong personality, rock chic thing etc but then she goes and spoils it by making pedestrian music (it is!) and generally being over aggressive in interviews. I know that received wisdom is she is A Good Thing but meh
  12. by "in touch" I meant "with him", not .. y'now.. "in touch" with the world! But the reason I mentioned it was that any fans of his don't have to miss out - give him a poke
  13. because for some of us the memory of being an altar boy and having to wear black pumps - rubber dollies as we used to call them for some reason - is still too raw
  14. He contacted me via facebook so I'm in touch...
  15. oops - guilty as charged, Jeremy! But black jeans to be fair.. that mitigates slightly surely?
  16. Is it any more wrong that ladies in skirts with white trainers? I put it to you that both are crimes
  17. If you were a typical MP such as this one How would you feel about your workload doubling?
  18. When did I ever say ban?? I said people who voted for them were "prats". Which is a lame word.. but doesn't suggest any kind of ban. But I will say this - if anyone I know personally uses this to vote for any of these parties it's end of.. And calling people "elite" 57 times doesn't help your cause either. MPs of generations gone by were genuine elite. These days anyone from any class can get elected. You keep using "elite" as a negative - but by definition any group of people - be they political leaders, football team, office manager whatever are "elite". Are they all bad? If you - yes YOU - vote extremist parties in at an election, those same people YOU voted for will be "elite"
  19. One for the LOL posts thread there DC Come on SteveT - what would you answer with?
  20. you are contradicting yourself Louisa But as to the question "Yes and so what if people do vote extremist parties? That is the luxury and unfortunate nature of living in a parliamentary democracy, and in all honesty it is no more than the current political elite deserve." It isn't the politicians who lose out I am worried about if extremists get voted in - it's what happens to people living in this country. I don't want to invoke Godwins Law but really, that line of logic is the sort of thing you hear before.... people like Him took power. And do you think the politicians who were in powere before Hit;ers rise getting a bloody nose was justified in light of what happened?
  21. Well partly I'm going on what you have said - namely the possible rise of extremist parties. Something that can only happen if elected by the public. And if they vote extremist parties is does that not make them a prat? Given the amount of interviews I have read/heard with members of the public on TV/radio/newspapers it should be obvious to anyone that rational judgement is not been excercised by Joe public. It's the same mantra trotted out time after time "You can't trust any of them/they are all on the take/I'm voting UKIP" yadda yadda an infinitum
  22. Err. . Im not being conditioned to think anything. If you call an election now as this conditioned electorate acts like a prat and votes on a wave of anger ridding the good with the bad just who exactly is going to be elected in their place
  23. Come on carnell, with your accent there are many pubs in South London you can't go into!
  24. She's not off the veg 5 MINUTES and she's worried about how her meat is cooked! ;-) Having recently acquired a garden and a barbecue for first time in 20 years I have been doing lots of reading and practice. Charcoal all the way so far for me. Not had a problem lighting a fire yet. And I prefer the wire grill to the hot plates I used in Oz.
