  1. that one almost falls into the so bad it's good clich? Crona :))
  2. Y'all won't be aware of it because it's happening on another (football) thread but he's referring to another Tilly - don't worry about it I love the forum for many reasons but one of them is NOT the kind of posts being exchanged over there :(
  3. very few people claim to believe in "nothing" - but not believing in "a god" is not the same as nothing The principles as outlined in, say, the Christian bible are really just iterations of how mankind had been living anyway for a loooong time.
  4. As Sabrina once sang "Boys boys boys" !!! Or in business-speak - "do you want to take this offline? Or in my words "STOP PUBLICLY THREATENING TO TAKE EACH OTHER OUTSIDE!!!" Do it via PM (cc me please!) or don't do it at all (have a look at the terms and conditions of the forum before you tell me to back off again please)
  5. with slightly LESS respect.... You can't really come onto a public forum and tell anyone to mind their business. All I'm saying is if you are going to accuse someone of being racially provocative, you'll need a leeeeeetle bit more than a reference to a kebab
  6. atila - even if you were 100% in the right, that last post was a bit ott wsn't it? As it is, how exactly has STB got your goat so much. Making a reference to kebabs is hardly the most heinous insult ever is it? And it's hardly racially insulting surely
  7. I can't hear that tin talk. And I can't see it orbiting the earth
  8. you see the kind of misundertsanding that can arise from a misplaced or missing comma???? Thankfully none of the good books are likely to have suffered such a fate. *cough*
  9. Not sure I follow Brendan. I know people who say "Because of my belief in the free-market etc etc we should..." or "because I believe the free-market need to be managed etc etc we need to..." or "I believe Jesus/Allah/whoever would want me/us to...." But I've not heard "my atheist belief dictates that we should...." Saying something doesn't exist doesn't mean it doesn't. But until it's shown to exist, then, as with my bovril tin, not believing it is surely the only sensible choice. But not believing in it doesn't inform any moral opinions
  10. to use a phrase.."what Keef said" As for tennis, do we have enough people interested in playing to warrant booking some courts for a day's tournament?
  11. Which is why one can't actually be a fundamental atheist. I don't believe that, orbiting the earth is a 10 foot tall bovril tin, which has the power of speech. The fact that I don't believe this, doesn't make me a fundamentalist anything. It just means I have a hold on my mental faculties...
  12. ahem But now that you have mentioned ED tandoori...
  13. Possibly to her surprise (and annoyance) , I'm going to come to spangles defence here. If the same events happened to me, my working assumption would be that I had been "done". If it turned out to be a mistake then I would have been pleasantly surprised Yes it's possibly accurate to say spangles was quick to jump in but re-reading here post, if it was written by anyone else I don't think there would have been an issue. I expect normal servce to resume between us soon tho ;-) As for lawnmowerman; sorry to hear things haven't turned out better
  14. strange questions at the Gowlett quiz mind you..
  15. with odd hair
  16. I'm a little bit in love with Lucy Mangan. Not sure how it would work in reality - but she seems really switched on. I especially like her weekly column about the outer-reaches of cable-telly land
  17. Worse shtill... I'll miss the feckin thing...
  18. I get this every so often - and had it as recently as last week when I tried to bump somthing I think I realised fairly quickly that it was the word "bump" which cause the problem - I re-worded the post and tried again, which worked first time I would recommend that anyone with this problem reviews their post and looks for word which MIGHT contain something which may flag a filter. Admin said recently that he had included the word bump in the filter as so many people had used it unnecessarily which not everyone may have seen.. but the word stood out when I reviewed my own post. At least if anyone posts from Scunthorpe and has problems we will know why
  19. I "became a fan" yesterday - so technically looky turty had me before he/she posted
  20. When I read that I though "oh God please don't let it be me that said that" .... but it was As Keef said, I was surprised but wow.. Russia really took the game by the scruff of the neck.. Fair play to 'em Fingers crossed for Spain tonight
  21. Last time I had a coffee in Dulwich Cafe (next to Palmerston), it was the best coffee I had had in years...
  22. Well I did 2 hours in teh shop but there was no real need - several regulars were there and John himself was there most of the time as well BUT It was a good 2 hours - really enjoyed the company and "got" what John is trying to do - ie not just a record shop but a general drop-in and hang-out place. Heard some good music as well - yndi halda - a band John manages played the Barbican on Fri night and the CD sounded really good today Let's all arrange to grab a few beers and take over the place ;-)
  23. I'm doing a stint from 12 for a couple of hours - is anyone else pencilled in for a shift? Or even come along to check the place out ?
  24. really Asset? What have I been buying then??? :-S The main men's section is just to the right behind the door as you go in. And there are L'Instant Pour Homme bits and bobs half way along the left hand wall Or at least all this was true a few weeks back
  25. verily MM - I even have the name down
