  1. On the corner of Goodrich and Friern - I remember a few years back someone had one in their back garden. But not heard that for a while. I'm not too far from you Ant but I haven't heard anything Sorry if it's affecting your sleep as well - but as moos says - the title is almost worth it ;-)
  2. yowsa - when admonished by moos I have to think about what I've said! Firstly - if someone has been unlawfully or unjustly fined then I'm all for them fighting it and winning. Solidarity, brothers and sisters and all of that . But the relentlessness of the threads that keep cropping up with "the council are milking motorists dry!" - not just on the forum but on any talk radio show or most papers is tedious in the extreme. Councils and Private Businesses have adopted (extremely) harsh measure not because of a small number of mistaken motorists but the sheer volume of people "trying it on" Even this thread which is ostensibly about unjust fines, when examined, appears a bit fishy to me. The technicality of not having received the notice might be sufficient to get the poster off the fine but when asked "so you didn't park illegaly", no response was forthcoming That's on the specifics. On the more general reason I get so worked up is that, in 20 foot letters, on the wall over there is some big-ass writing. And no-one is reading it. The game has changed... not only is it impossibly to go back to an age when free and easy parking was possible (the usual reasons - limited space, increasing traffic volumes etc) but with petrol getting ever more scarce and expensive (although I suspect we will see the current situation ease and flare up a few more times before the situation really hits home) the dependance on the car has to change at some point. And it will be far easier to plan ahead and adapt slowly then to do what most people seem to be doing which is head-in-the-sand, woe-poor-persecuted-me, and wait until it's too late Again, for the record - I love driving. Maybe not in London but when I get the chance I love it. I am not, in Louisa's phrase "a greenie". But the ease with which people get so aggrieved when they have done something wrong, blame someo other force (council greed apparently) and seem happy to tell all on a public forum doesn't seem healthy to me. And it's not, as seanmlow so lovingly put it, about anyone claiming perfection - none of us is. But the difference is surely in the ability to accept ones mistakes and learn from them
  3. The Naga dish wasn't anywhere near as hot as a vindaloo - it was enough to cause a pleasant humm of hotness and no worse for that But the Naga chili itself - in it's raw form which sat (I believe as a garnish) atop the dish is one of the hottests chillis around. Frankly if we here from Onion this morning I will be amazed as his system will have some "sorting out" to do - but as Michael says, he did it and he did it in style. All hail..
  4. nice page it is too RSN - and a plug and link for the forum as well - nice one :)-D
  5. oooh yes Ondine - loved it. A few of us saw it at the time an posted thoughts here The DVD is out next month I think
  6. This! Perfect encapsulation Mr ed... er.. Mr Citizen? Whatever. Nail on head
  7. Spot on quinnie about the table - it's always well chosen stuff and presented in an accessible way PGC - now, now - I didn't say there was anything WRONG with a secondhand Christian bookshop* but a shop looking to thrive on a busy retail street could look a leeetle bit more interested. I'm not arguing for style over substance.. just a bit of a spruce. CSHBSs (to coin a clumsy and unintelligible acronym) tend to be in back streets, with a more... forgiving clientele and aren't really competing in the same way, no? * although you could probably guess what I really think. Not that I'd cause a to-do.... Oh dear me, no..
  8. Nice post steveo - I am (usually) on Chener's side and I don't want it closed down or replaced. But i wouldn't mind seeing it brushed up and looking less like a second-hand Christian bookshop It also disturbs me that a shopkeeper is able to get all this feedback and distill it into one negative comment - retailing has moved on in 20 years - if he engaged he might actually... build a rapport with some new customers. Can't see where the reluctance to do that comes from Edited for appalling typing
  9. you mean the one coming out this week (ie tomorrow) or the one covering this week (which came out last Tue?) I should be able to provide either
  10. fixed that for ya Louisa...
  11. oooops - good spot - it was a flashback to our Cricklewood days that put me in mind of Alan I meant Giles Coren.. thangouvermuch

Louisa is on FINE form today! Absolutely no point arguing with her when she's like this so I won't @Seannmlow Is that the kind of attitude you take with pilots? Or do you expect them, to you know, NOT kill anyone. When they land safely do you go up to them and say "oooh look at you MISTER perfect aren't we???" People can take whatever mode of transport they wish - but when they start BLEATING about it.. jesus
  13. did you Keef? Spooky - we went along for Sunday lunch and were recognized by Scott from the Rye days - free champagne ahoy!! Liked the place a lot...
  14. Difficult to say for sure how factual the "apparently" in "apparently in the wake of threats by the US government," is but even if this is cooked up entirely at LloydsTSB HQ it still bothers me.. How to show an undemocratic country how democracy works
  15. not an easy thing to forgive bon3yard, not an easy thing... ;-)
  16. Having seen "Tell No One" at Keef's gaff a few months back, I STILL haven't got around to the book (sorry Keef - let me know if you need it back) but as it was on Sky at the weekend I recommended it to Lady MacGabhann and watched it last night... I really really enjoyed watching it again the second time.
  17. Am I right in thinking this might be one of the bigger curry nights- usually about 5 or 6 of us but expecting 8+ tonight? Any late additions? - go on someone - take the plunge
  18. I see NC Road and Hope & Greenwood were featured on that 70s BBC programme with Alan Coren and Sue Perkins - same segment was shown on Something for the Weekend on Sunday morning
  19. true true, it was your good self that resurrected the thread - still an odd post to quote I thought. But I like RosieH and she's working on a Sunday. For PWC..... so, to quote you and to show Rosie some support "RosieH is innocent"
  20. Bellenden Belle's last post is wise, pertinent and stands on it's own as a piece of confessional writing - I love it My own fear is that of stuplity... sorry, stupidity. Specifically, mass self-delusional stupidity - the kind that has swept across civilizations across centuries (eg Inquisition, McCarthyism, German social democracy) , and which each contemporary society thinks is above it. I live in fear of ever falling prey to it AND to being one of the few who has to stand against it..
  21. RosieH Have you REALLY resurrected a month+ old thread just to point out that a post by david_carnell, which had several replies (and thus negating your whole point), is a post that no-one is interested in? (and thus negating your whole point) if you are looking for light-relief there must be more obvious threads than this...
  22. Isn;t this thread just a reprise of another thread (just 4 topics down at time of writing ED Hygiene in restaurants
  23. s'ok Chav , it was a rubbish joke of mine to begin with...
  24. coz he said you see.. "I, Amy..."
  25. It really is true, what MM says And if you're driving around supermarkets as far as ED and Kennington you're paying a fortune in petrol as well
