Ah but I love to see trust in action - warms the cockles of my heart it does...

"happily melancholic" - my defaut setting I see people are going for themes. My initial list (which I need to verify when I get access to youtube) doesn't have a theme... but it probably does have a fair wallop of happy melancholy

nothing about the Dutch performance suggests they are about to implode. And France were lame oppsition so I don't think Italy have been tested yet

There was a forum drinks last summer (ish) which I remember being a blast and they were very accomodating about our reluctance to leave But many forumites head up regularly to watch the Open Mic nights as well -
come on Jah - a BIT more fanfare than that please! Good to have you back sir

way to disprove those people who criticized your use of words in the past Boris Rise festival no-longer anti-racist. Not that that makes it pro-racist I'm sure In any case it was never the same when it moved oop North

Random songs belong in the music thread ladeeez n' gentleman (and a fine place it is too ) but this here place is for compilations (and praise/criticism thereof) only Congratulations are in order to Mr Carnell ( I so wish his first name was Darnell) for standing up and being not only the first, but a very nicely chosen set.

As someone who is pro free-range and (at best) ambivelant about organic I agree totally with AllforNun (yes yes, I know...) I remember circumstance forcing me to the uber Sainsbos on DKH months and months ago - and in a whole aisle of endless chicken I couldn't find either the joint I wanted or simple free-range. Seemed weird to me. I think the Somerfield on LL has plenty of both (from memory)

It's not as grassy (ie none) but it has more seating and is generally bigger. -

notwithstanding the probable flak from using the word "pikey" Acedout.... It's great Up until it's refurb and launch last year it was the one pub I loathed more than any other. Not just here in ED but anywhere I've lived. It was grim. if someone wants to say they loved it that's fine and dandy but I tried it every year (as it was the closest to my place) and it was always grimmer than the last time Since the refurb they have got most things spot on and have a very mixed crowd and a great selection of beers. It's not perfect - the food (or lack of it) can (only sometimes) be hit and miss but the manager is a solid guy and genuinely cares and works hard to fix problems Plenty of good live music there as well with frequent appearances by some of the forumites (particularly Keef) and his band. I would rate it close to being my favourite pub in the area now... -
Ah so you are calling us idiots - just checking. Charmed. Nice to meet you. Welcome aboard etc. Interesting way to introduce yourself.... It was very silly indeed, and almost anything else I did that day was more useful - but it was a LOT of fun... And some of us (although not me) were barely in our 20s.. so.. easy with the generalisations Did we interrupt your lunch or something?

Was that meant as a cheeky first post Rosscoe (in which case you chose the wrong smiley) or was it meant as a condemnatory first post (in which case it succeeded - but why?)

Curry Club - Thursday 7 March 2019 - venue TBC

I thoroughly enjoyed my food - starters was light and fresh, whilst the main was punchy and hot without being silly (although as we have seen - silliness is optional) I tasted a few other dishes and found plenty to go back for and I wouldn't have any real complaints (the staff's friendliness and attentiveness can't be questioned - although the tension of starting a new business was apparent) It's not a revolution in Indo/Banglo dining on LL - but it's a very decent addition -

it does raise the question of where is next.... I nominate Coriander. I have had some dishes that haven't worked there (as I belive Ant will testify) but I've had some very decent stuff too -
Steveo - you going to print this thread out and show the guv'nor? Might give him a little lift..

Loz - good post I agree with you on the current incentivisation of traffic wardens - that is an area where the balance has gone too far the other way There should be a check and balance on the wilful issuing of tickets. Not sure about Ofpark as a name tho ;-) Tess MP has helped people out with this - I wonder if she is reading and has an ideas on what shape that might be (it would reduce her workload as well if she didn't have to keep helping out) As for the variable parking and speed limits on Gallery Rd and others - I dunno. I'm certainly curious. I don't believe they are instigated as revunue raisers but I'm open to correction based on any facts that can be unearthed My wider point about the ongoing motorist v whoever remains. I would love if this was an easy case of bullying by "the man" and could side with the victims - but as I've said on others posts and see every day - If I could walk more than 100 yards without seeing a motorist wilfully (not accidentally) playing fast and loose with the laws, to the inconvenience and possibly danger of others then I would find it easier to man the barricades.

We have the music room where people post there latest finds/rememberances but amongst all of the many postings, editorial and context is lost. Which then reminded me of the lost art of mix-tapes How about people pull together 10 different youtube song clips and list them with any liner notes you fancy adding yourself. Why each song deserves a place in your 10 picks, what it meant at the time etc No other rules - no limit on how many from same artist, or length of song - just pick 10 (I'm cheating slightly by not picking 10 as I'm at work but will come back and do this later)

I was disturbed by the fact that, for the second day running, I entered an establishment at random and was given free champagne. What credit crunch? -
how do you know the speed limit changes so much SteveT? I thought you didn't see speed limit signs anymore? ;-) Can you really not think of any other reasons that the speed limit is no longer 70mph along there?

I've seen Mr Lush outside the Black Cherry a few times in the last week or two - but postings wise I have no idea.. I don't get excited at the fixture list but come the first televised games of the season I am UP FOR IT!

I'm much more with MM than Huguenot or STB on this one.. It's a bit fatuous to suggest that those agin these measures are warning that jackbooted state police will be kicking down our doors for thought-crime within our lifetimes. If these measures are introduced, life will go on as normal and few people will be affected But it is a bit reminiscent of the proverbial frog in the hot pan. The temperature is being turned up and by the time we think something needs to be done it will be too late. Why would something need to be done? Leaving aside the efficacy of the measures (if video cameras are so good why does everyone say they feel more scared in 2008 compared with say 30 years ago?) we don't have to look too far back in our history to see various times when government gets ideas above it's station. I'm not that worried about terrorism or sophisticated criminals - terrorists aren't that sophisticated from what I've seen and tech-minded criminals tend to target not you and me but more faceless corporations) but I would be worried if, for example when Maggie started to wane in office and her ideas started to provoke public disquiet, instead of realising (via riots etc) that the people weren't taking things lying down, she could use the sort of powers being discussed to enforce it. That's just one silly example but it shouldn't be hard to think of many more I don't understand however the whole "I don't mind the CCTV being there, it doesn't affect me and anyway it doesn't seem to reduce crime therefore I'm neutral about them" - if you consider them ineffective then why shrug - they cost a lot to install and maintain so they must be there for some reason. And as for the 42 days - let's face it - Kelvin MacKenzie shows the real mentality behind it when he says "42 days? Make it 420 days! whatever it takes" - in otherwords indefinite detention without trial. Well whoppee for us Asset makes the good point that it's not really party-political - any party with a sniff of this power will sieze it if possible
