Franks/Bussey all well and good, at least they have got people talking about Peckham in a positive light for a change. But is the view from the roof more important than creating new housing? Is preserving the current hipster hangout of choice (for three months of the year) more important than the redevelopment of a crappy-beyond-words shopping precinct?

I don't really have a problem with it. As long as there's enough land left for a reasonable garden for each house. At a time when new flats are being built on open green space (e.g. proposals for DKH estate), this seems like a lot of fuss about nothing. Emergency vehicle access doesn't seem like such a big deal to me, there are plenty of properties in London where vehicles can't drive right up to the doorstep. If that's a problem for you, don't buy the house.

I don't really have the knowledge to draw any conclusions about the link (or lack of) between the Rotherham abuse cases and a culture of female oppression. But it would seem wrong to me to lay the blame at anyone or anything other than the offenders themselves.

Is it OK to accept oppression of women and girls amongst first generation immigrants, just because their kids will probably know better? I don't think so. What can be done?
