  1. But Louisa... you are usually the first to express your disgust at the "existing culture" in Peckham! Besides, anyone who thinks that Rye Lane will become overrun with cafes/bars/boutiques etc is deluded.
  2. But lots of houses don't have the roof height for even a 2m loft without lowering the ceilings...
  3. Now that's something I don't often get accused of..
  4. I guess if you need to be near Times Square then fair enough, but there's little there of interest really except for broadway shows. Chelsea/Soho/Greenwich are nicer areas. East Village and Williamsburg better for eating and drinking.
  5. 2.3m is not outrageously low, but it is noticeably lower than typical victorian properties, and even pretty low for a new-build. If it's a choice between (for example) 2.3m on the first floor and 2.2m in the loft, or 2.4m on the first floor and 2.1m in the loft, I'd go for the latter. As LondonMix says, people will be more forgiving of lower ceilings in the loft when it comes to selling.

  7. grabot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So are the responses from stevesmith generated by a bot? I dunno... I thought so at first (a few posts on random threads before the advertising starts) but the posts seem a little too coherent.
  8. They cropped the photo to show just his face and shoulders? Clear evidence of a conspiracy.
  9. There have been stories about the canal path ever since the start of the forum... there's no bloody way I'd cycle through there after dark. Best avoided. Glad you got away Jacqui, hope you're OK.
  10. Is stevesmith some sort of bot? Can't think of any other explanation for this bizarre post.

I don't 'not like' it. I'm just not into it. Yeah pretty much all modern western music can trace its lineage back to blues... it doesn't necessarily follow that we should all be creaming ourselves over Muddy Waters records or whatever.

Not really, I'm afraid! I don't find it unlistenable or offensive or anything. I just find it samey and uninteresting.

Blues... never really been able to get into it. I mean, how many times can you hear essentially the same song without getting sick of it? (And you can say the same for Elvis' early blues-based stuff, Blue Suede Shoes, Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog... they're all the same bloody song).

  15. We did this in one of the bedrooms in our old place. Actually the bedroom still felt perfectly OK, even after lowering the ceiling by a foot. If you still have around 240cm height after lowering, it should be fine - but if it would be more like 220cm, then you should think carefully as you might be affecting the saleability. If it turns out that your ceilings would be unacceptably low, then another option is just building over the rear "outrigger" instead of using the main loft space. In many houses you can get a decent size bedroom with a small ensuite in this area.
  16. I'm all for the redevelopment of the station (of course), but it seems that they're a bit too keen on booting out estblished businesses. Who are all these artisan types who will be occupying all the glass fronted "artisan studios"?
  17. MrBen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Like, way to make the guy feel better Jezza..... It's for his own good!! The best thing to do is find somewhere nicer within commuting distance. Also plenty of nice countryside and villages round there (I imagine) if that's your bag.
  18. Tamworth is a hole, I'm afraid. I think Lichfield is supposed to be OK.
  19. Does anyone remember when a bunch of squatters took over a house on Goose Green? They posted on here as the "goose green team" or something. I think they lasted about five days, until they all went home to their parents because they missed hot showers and mum's cooking.
  20. I'm not really a big supporter of squatters, but I guess that's what happens when you leave a building empty for a long period of time.
  21. titch, you can't say that there isn't a lack of information, just because you found the information on one occasion adequate...
  22. I though hibbs was quite restrained. Either 'unlurked' is a deeply unpleasant person, or he has some sort of mental deficiency.
  23. The Ivy House? Never heard of it. Please tell me more.
  24. Surprised the OP even warranted a single response. But I guess after a string of posts about essentially nothing, it was inevitable that the thread would gravitate towards the favourite forum subject of "isms".
