  2. Brixton has a Boots and Morleys departments store Clapham Junction has a huge Boots and a Debenhams Peckham and Camberwell both have Superdrug stores But the simple answer is that there's nowhere in a 2-3 mile radius which has the complete "high street shopping experience".
  3. Croydon's about a 25 min drive, the West End is about the same on the train. I know which I'd prefer (unless at xmas, when Covent Garden/Oxford St/etc is unbearable). Obviously a much better selection of shops, and you can pop in somewhere nice for lunch or a couple of cheeky beers. Even take in a museum or gallery.
  4. Not much locally - thr West End isn't that far away.
  5. When I semi-agreed with NewWave's observation that ED is "smug"... I think what I meant is similar to KK's description, i.e. people proud of having acheived sufficient income/wealth to buy a house here, and maybe subtly bragging about it. No big deal really, it just seems a bit strange, as when many of us came here it was specifically because it was a pretty cheap area.
  6. * whoosh * Took me a few seconds to get it too...
  7. Well, Groves got himself into the mandatory slot, so fair play. It makes solid business sense for all concerned. Groves may never get an opportunity like this again... no reason for it not to happen.
  8. Back in the day, he always used to mention his buy-to-let properties in interviews, and how he does the tiling himself. He comes across as quite a strange guy. A great fighter to watch, though.
  9. Think that's just about the only quote of his I've read where he doesn't claim to be a "warrior". What a douchebag!

This was also my thoughts. It may be suitable for light use, but probably not any substantial furniture, etc. I agree that planning permission wouldn't have been necessary. If there's no building regs certificate, perhaps you could ask for an inspection to be done? Then you could even ask the vendor to cover the costs of any work needed.
  11. Louisa - Iceland prawn ring, steak diane Otta - burgers and sausages on the barbecue, and a few cans of Stella. Woodrot - cat casserole David Carnell - locally sourced this and that
  12. The thing is, it won't be a cagey fight like Valuev or Wlad. Fury will get in close and put pressure on Haye (before getting knocked out).
  13. So... less than two weeks until Haye/Fury. Still think Haye should win and make Fury look clumsy in the process, but Fury's size and aggression do make this interesting at least. Scott Quigg on the undercard should be entertaining too. I wonder if The Rose will be showing this one?
  14. 2007 felt different to 2002, and by 2012 LL felt pretty different again. But it is still a decent place to go for a meal and/or a few drinks. Could be a lot worse.
  15. Now an actual sequoia tree... that would be something!
  16. I like the final one... the fact that it has a potential purpose beyond the aesthetic. I think it's only art in the vaguest sense, but at least it will be impossible to steal.
  17. first mate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Moo 2 was an excellent clothes shop Ah you see, I though Moo 2 was another gift/trinket shop, similar to Celestial and Ed. So maybe they DID need to clarify their "offering"? Although saying that, I don't think there was much ambiguity in the "Sew East Dulwich" incarnation.

  20. NewWave Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I do find ED somewhat smug I don't want to agree with you... but yet I kind of do. I think it's unavoidable now that ED's labelled a "desirable" place to live. However, countless areas of SW/W/N London are far higher on the smugness scale.
  21. Agreed.
  22. There's no fight-day weigh-in... apparently Mayweather's team wanted one, but Alvarez refused. I think the weigh-in is today. I really hate all these catchweight fights and stipulations which Mayweather and Pac seem to insist on these days. There are already too many divisions as it is. If you want to face the light middleweight champ, fight at the light middleweight limit! Otherwise pick a welterweight (Timothy Bradley maybe?) I still think Mayweather is far too smart defensively for Alvarez. Alvarez hasn't been fighting at the top level for long. In fact when you look at his level of opposition to date, it isn't really all that impressive - although I admit he tends to win in impressive style.
  23. The main challenge is that the pavements here tend to be a lot narrower. Also the Japanese are very different to the British. They're generally polite, considerate, and respect rules.
  24. One of the advantages of renting is that you can move with comparably little hassle. I'd exercise that advantage if I were you.
  25. I've been to Japan a couple of times, and I think cycling on the pavement works very well there. People cycle considerately and at a fairly slow pace, and always stop and junctions... i.e. they behave like pedestrians. The incident in the OP probably wouldn't happen, because the cyclist would be crossing with caution. If you want to bomb along, you use the road instead. Another thing which really impressed me (also mentioned in the article) were the huge - and cheap - bicycle "parking" facilities at every station.
