  1. Cash cow? You need to deduct the money it takes to: - create bus lanes - install, operate, and maintain cameras/vehicles - issue tickets - collect fines
  2. reeko... think you're probably taking this a bit too seriously...

    random stuff

This reminds me of something... in the movie The Abyss, they used a "breathable liquid" in the diving suits, allowing humans to dive deep down into the sea. But before our hero takes the plunge, they demonstrate the principal using a rat, by submerging it in the special liquid. The thing is, the rat scene wasn't CGI... they really did it.
  4. Also the one at the top of Crystal Palace Rd. Plenty of greasy spoons around... albeit a couple less than there used to be. More like a fiver for a coffee and a croissant. As, er, daveybigpotatoes says, Draft House do a house lager for under ?4 which is not so expensive by todays standards. You're exaggerating Fox, and you know it! At least Louisa's ?6-?12 line is vaguely amusing!
  5. Many of the small shops we have in ED manage to survive by offering something the supermarkets can't... in terms of quality, selection, service, expertise, niche interest, etc. That's why people go out of their way to use them. It's unrealistic to hope to attract customers just because you're a local high street retailer. If you consider the daily routine of many families these days... drop off kids in nursery at 8am, go to work, pick up kids at 6pm, cook dinner, collapse... there has to be a really good reason to make time on the weekends to visit your local butcher, baker, etc.
  6. As dennis says, info is available from land registry. Seems a rather unlikely story.

  8. Street food is a good idea - Kerb at the Gherkin or Kings Cross (depending on the day of week). Whitecross Street near Barbican is OK too (and while you're there you can check out http://hackthebarbican.org/) The "Memory Palace" exhibition at the V&A is a sort of graphic novel installation, pretty cool (and a good friend of mine is one of the featured illustrators!) I'm sure Camden would keep her occupied for a while. If she's actually into emo (i.e. the punk subgenre and not just the modern meaning of the word) she might like looking in All Ages records.

KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > He's got a maths degree as everyone by now knows > and he could join any consultancy in a tick He has a 2:2 from an average uni... credit to him for doing that while training full time, but these days he'd struggle to get an interview at most consultancies or banks. Saying that, boxing at anything other than world contender level doesn't pay at all well...
  10. Just looked at the site on Google Streetview... interesting to see "luxury apartments" for sale next to a decrepit "Dixie Chicken".
  11. Looks like work is finally underway on the site (corner of Pytchley Rd and Bromar Rd). Good to know that the existing eyesore will be gone soon. I believe there is asbestos in the building, so I don't fancy getting too close while the building is being demolished!
  12. Bang goes the Froch/Cleverly fight then! Clev/Enzo possibly on the cards though?
  13. He can come back from this... but he needs to rebuild, get a proper trainer, and take a few fights to reestablish himself. The worst thing he could do is what Enzo Mac did after losing to Haye- get right back in there with other title contenders and find your career in ruins.
  14. Gotta feel a bit sorry for Nathan, he probably thought he was 'the man' at the weight, and he just found out how far below top level he really is.
  15. Clev was only ever a paper champ. He'd fought nobody of note... this was only a matter of time.

  17. Yep, despite fl0wer's good intentions, it's not realistic to expect people to put up with a wasps nest on their property. Kill 'em. I used "Abal Pest Control Services" (google them) to get rid of a wasps nest in the loft when I bought my current flat. I've also used K&O pest control to get rid of mice, and I know they do wasps nests too.
  18. Actually it looks more like a Jaguar to me...
  19. The thrust of the point seems to be that building work in your home is excessively selfish. Which is pretty silly... even for these pages...
  20. How long does it take to channel out the party wall to insert the beams? Should only be 1-2 days.
  21. I'm sure there are at least three spansish bars along Hanway St...
  22. Otta, wasn't "baa bar" the sort of trendy (in a scouser/clubby kind of way) place in the slater street area? Never set foot in there personally... although I do remember there being plenty of good places to go out around there.
  23. Yeah I really wouldn't think that commuters are generally a group in need of state assistance. One option could be to encourage businesses to allow more flexible working hours, so people can travel off peak. Perhaps a more strategic solution could involve making the country less London-centric, encouraging business and government departments to set up shop outside of central London... or even outside of SE England...
  24. I'd say the minimum height should be around 2.1m. And you have to bear in mind that they will need to put in thick steel beams to build the new suspended floor own. So it sounds like you may have to lower the ceilings in your top floor by 30cm or so.
  25. Not all lofts are high enough to convert into a useable room, so building over the back is a good way of adding an extra bedroom. Although saying that, if the neighbours object then you have to make a judgement on whether you consider your extra space to be more important than the wishes of the neighbours. I have no sympathy for someone who just builds the biggest extension they can to raise the value of the house, but I can understand people trying to create the space they need for their family within their budget. The people saying "if you don't have enough space buy a bigger house" obviously haven't looked at property prices recently.
