  2. Everyone loves Picture House cinemas for the foregin films and arty stuff. But they actually GO there to see Iron Man followed by a pint.
  3. I dunno, I think practical martial arts tuition should certainly be beneficial if you're attacked on a one-on-one basis, and you train dilligently. But it's a last resort, and of course no guarantee of fighting off an assailant. And you've still got little to no chance when faced with someone with a knife - who is prepared to use it.
  4. M&S were outbid by Selfridges.
  5. Even if it was technically feasibile to build iOS and Android front ends, the development cost would surely be in the tens of thousands. Not to mention ongoing maintenence/support. But if you're offering your own skills or money, then I'm sure admin would be glad to hear from you.
  6. computedshorty - any site Picturehouse take over will have a fairly plush refurb and this will be reflected in the ticket price (around ?10). But they're pretty established now with around 20 sites, so I'd be inclined to trust them if they think the numbers add up.
  7. Issue happened just before 7 I think. Glad it didn't turn out to be serious - apologies for the false alarm!
  8. Station closed down. Smoke appearing around the tube ticket hall. Best avoid!
  9. Definitely my favourite curry house on LL. Unfortunately illegal immigrants working in restaurants isn't exactly unusual.

  11. Remember when LaShawn Merritt was caught, and he came up with the story about penis enlargement drugs? Humiliating admission, or calculated bluff?
  12. Theoretically I wouldn't have a problem with BBQs in parks (frankly small patches of burned grass don't really bother me). But if it results in extra litter and hot coals being left to smoulder, then clearly it's a problem.
  13. Do they actually serve sicilian dishes, or is it just a pasta/pizza place with a sicilian guy running it? To me, the name conjures up images of Ren?e and Renato, 'Just One Cornetto', and pasta sauce like mama used to make-a. But if people think the food is good and un-generic, I'll definitely give it a go some time. I remember the garden from the Chopsticks days, it's a really nice space, pretty much unique round here afaik.
  14. I believe Burgess Park doesn't just have a BBQ area, it actually has permanent barbecues you can use.
  15. Obviously I'm rather out of touch with r/c geekery...
  16. Exactly. very surprised that anyone would give this third-hand gossip the time of day.
  17. Nah, I reckon Bob's well old innit. My school was probably 95% white, so not exactly diverse. But in an ironic way it worked OK, because kids from an ethnic minority just mixed with everyone else, and nobody really thought anything of it.
  18. That's also my understanding, Foxy. I'm sure there must have been cases of malicious interference amongst jealous r/c ner... I mean... enthusiasts.
  19. katie, that picture appears to be of a car. Not a helicopter. I believe the transmitter and the receiver have to have matching "crystals" to ensure they're operating on the same frequency... that's the first thing you need to check...
  20. You can get telescopic metal sticks (kind of like radio aerials) with magnets on the end from DIY shops.
  21. You could argue that the vendors are the real clients anyway (they instruct the agent and pay their commission from the proceeds of the sale). So pretty much all of their customers want them to push up the price... Unfortunately...
  22. Are we talking about the little lightweight things you pick up for ?15? Or the proper nerdy ones?
  23. On the face of it, it may seem ridiculous to even suggest that 30% of the population is comprised of recent immigrants. But in the example of Bob's school, faced with a rapidly changing demographic in your local community, you can kind of understand why people might think it. Or even if you live in a small town where diversity is low, but anyone different tends to be noticed. In theory I have no problem discussing immigration, as it does impact most of us to various degrees (in both negative and positive ways). But things can get a bit messy. Especially when someone with completely odious views (previous posters spring to mind) hijacks a legimitate point as justification for their prejudice...
  24. TD - Network Rail aren't particularly proactive with knotweed. If you can, it's much better to deal with it yourself, at least you'll have peace of mind and you'll know what's going on.
  25. Apparently you can compost the stuff, as long as it's not in with all your other compost. So you can leave it in a plastic container - ideally sprayed with weedkiller - until it's completely decomposed.
