  1. But Sue, all the local places already DO have a veggie dish. I think the issue is that people want multiple veggie dishes to choose from. Something which may not be realistic.
  2. KK, I believe the injection or stem filling method is safe to use when you want to protect surrounding plants.
  3. Vegetarianism is a choice. It happens to be one I admire in some ways, but when you make that choice you do so knowing full well that you're restricting your diet and deviating from the cultural norm. 1-2 dishes on a menu of say 8 mains is simply in proportion with demand. Also, while there are certain clich?d veggie dishes such as lasagne, risotto, goats cheese tart, etc, after a quick glance at the websites for a few local restaurants, I failed to find any of these.
  4. Yeah I think whatever method you use, it is generally accepted that complete removal takes at least a couple of years.
  5. While I'm not sure why somebody with weight problems would want to go on national TV and be packaged up as entertainment, if someone actually fancies it then good luck to them. As long as the producers are honest and nobody's being exploited. Doubt I'd watch, but then that applies to most TV shows.

Win > win. Sure, more veggie choices would possibly win more customers. But if they came at the expense of meat/fish dishes, they would almost certainly alienate existing customers. On the other hand, increasing the length of the menu would mean the overhead of having to stock more fresh ingredients, and the complications of cooking extra dishes. Doesn't really seem win/win to me.
  7. Some good pics on the wikipedia page. This one is a good closeup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Knotweed.JPG The red and green cane-like stem is a giveaway at this time of year. Later in the year, the bunches of small white flowers will be another obvious sign.
  8. It's a huge problem around Nunhead, ED, Peckham, etc. Especially near railway lines and industrial/commercial land. For any Knotweed on Network Rail property, you need to contact Network Rail immediately and they should deal with it. They have teams dedicated to this sort of thing, and have access to specialist herbicides. For any on your own property, you can either call in specialists or deal with it yourself. If you're dealing with it yourself, the most effective solution seems to be - Wait until the stems are wide, hollow, and resemble something between rhubarb and bamboo - Cut them down to 1-2 ft - Break down the internal structure of the stem with a thin rod (without puncturing the outside of the stem) - Fill it up with a concentrated glyphosate solution
  9. I think restaurants simply respond to demand. If a restaurant has - for the sake of argument - eight main courses on the menu and one in ten customers are vegetarian, it simply doesn't make sense to have more than one or two veggie dishes. I'm sure the new place could cater for veggies if you ask them.
  10. Depends what you mean by "behind" I suppose, but generally it's an excellent area. South or east of the station probably better than north or west. Don't be put off by the SE5 postcode, it's a fairly quiet area if you're not too close to the main road. Grove Lane, Grove Park and Camberwell Grove have some of the nicest houses in SE London. Camberwell proper is really improving, with good places to eat and drink.
  11. Not sure about the "lost the lads mags" thing. They don't normally have topless photos on the cover, do they?
  12. Sorry, still not convinced that a 5'9 22 yr old who doesn't look unusually broad to me is naturally anything higher than a LMW. He lacks the height and reach to compete in higher divisions, so this isn't comparable to a Ward match-up. On paper these two fighters are phyiscally quite well matched.
  13. You can't say that religion is not at least partly to blame for much of the violence in this world. That's where I think RB got it wrong. The unflinching belief in a highly ambiguous ancient text is pretty dangerous ground to start with. Extremist subgroups are an inevitable by-product.
  14. * woooshh *
  15. I really don't think 2lb is such a big deal. I would have thought that a pro athlete with a good dietician and trainer should be able to handle that fairly easily. I think that Mayweather still wins at the LMW limit, and it would also make his win more credible.
  16. You can't book the Begging Bowl. But if there's no space, you can go for a drink over the road and they'll call you when a table becomes available. I find it a bit annoying, but it's a good excuse to get an extra beer in I suppose.
  17. KK - yeah but my point was that LHW fighters would enter the ring (oo er) at something like 185... oh never mind, I know what you mean. I really don't like all these catchweight fights we've seen recently. There are already too many weight classes, there's no excuse for in-between fights. It slightly tarnishes the victory, and the crazy thing is, I really don't think Mayweather needs it to win.
  18. Not insightful, no. But eloquent, and not an unreasonable opinion to hold. Was the guy mentally ill? Either that, or seriously suggestible. Is Islam really a religion of love, peace, and tolerance? Clearly it often isn't... but then which religions are?
  19. My wife (keen cook) was desperate for a pasta maker, and was finally given one as a gift a couple years ago. She's used it once.
  20. I don't really buy this "he's effectively a light heavyweight" thing. But I think something like 170-172 might be a typical fight-night weight for a middleweight. While this is still a significant difference, Floyd is taller and with a longer reach than Alvarez, so I'd still give Floyd the advantage in terms of vital statistics. Not sure what elite level fighters Alvarez has beaten. A 40 yr old Shane Mosley is the obvious stand-out name on his record. In terms of the quality on their CVs, there's no comparison. Floyd by a wide-ish (4-6 rounds) UD.
  21. The pilotless plane doesn't really interest me much - technically we're almost there anyway. And as quids says, it's not really going to save any money for the airlines, so where's the incentive? What really does interest me is the steward-less plane. Automated food and booze vending direct to every seat. Or maybe a giant sushi-style conveyor belt going around the plane, carrying various items of food and drink. Could also be used to collect rubbish, and distribute landing cards and sick bags.
  22. 'can't be arsed' and 'shit driver' are the only two explanations I can think of. But yes, I agree with your summary that such things are sadly inevitable.

It seems to still be happening, despite the new shelters. Really hope they sort this out, fed up of filthy water seeping into my shoes.
  24. DJKQ, why not just leave it at "it's going to be tough but I wish them luck"? I think that's how most of us feel to varying degrees. But it seems rather mean - spiteful even - to focus so much on the former rather than the latter. If you're so keen on picking over the numbers, then you could always volunteer to help out and lend your experience in a more constructive capacity.
