  1. There's not necessarily a contradiction between socialist beliefs and having a bit of cash.
  2. To be honest if I was in the same position as the OP, I'd probably draw the same conclusion. I think I'd probably pursue it through different channels though...
  3. Vaguely on the subject of side return extensions and fascinating stuff like that... has anybody had a loft conversion done after a side return extension has already been built? Just wondering whether it's actually possible to get the scaffolding up at the back, especially if the extension has a sloping roof...
  4. I know. It's not been any good since Joe Mangle left.
  5. healey may or may not be an arsehole, I have no idea. He's not wrong though, the arm doesn't look right to me either.

    Misheard lyrics

    craft beer

numbers - the word "craft" is definitely overused, such as the two examples given in the article of Goose Island and Blue Moon. I always just thought "craft beer" was the American equivalent of "microbrew"... another term which seems a little misleading when brands like Meantime and Brewdog are starting to appear all over the place. But at the end of the day, if the beer tastes good I'll still buy it.
  8. MB/HB - I hear what you're saying, most men love having the house to themselves just now and again, eat/drink/watch whatever you want and just generally do your own thing for a bit. But I just don't think of MM as a curry and a 4-pack type of guy...

  10. Loz - depends on the context. If it's a medical journal or a fly-on-the-wall TV show about Magaluf, then no. If it's there specifically for men to stare at, then yes.
  11. Likewise... porn has its place, and that place isn't in a newspaper. But the Lego example doesn't make sense to me, either. Every adult who buys the paper knows what's in it, if they have a copy in their home then it's their responsibility to make sure that children don't "read" it.
  12. henryb - of course drivers need to make sure they can stop should the unexpected happen, but your black and white view which seems to amount to "the motorist is always to blame" seems pretty bizarre even by EDF standards. I can agree with you on the crossing though, especially having walked that way myself over the weekend. Surely a zebra crossing can't cost any more to build than an island, so what's the justification for having an island instead of a more formal crossing?
  13. Yeah there were lots of kids there, but I don't see why they'd bother you. As well as the childrens' stuff there were beer tents, and plenty of decent looking things to eat. The music wasn't the kind of thing I'd normally listen to, but plenty of people seemed to be enjoying it so obviously it hit the spot.
  14. aquarius moon Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Watch what you want on tv, hire some Dvd's, > > Order a take-away & some beer, From what we know about Marmora Man, this seems unlikely. If I was eating on my own, I'd probably head to somewhere like Spuntino, where you can sit at the bar and order a few small plates and a get a decent drop of wine/beer. Gets busy, but should be OK for an early dinner or late lunch. I'm not the biggest Theatre buff, but there seems to be interesting things going on at the Soho Theatre, and "The Shed" (temporary 'fringe' theatre venue next to the National Theatre).
  15. Of course it was an accident! It's not always necessary to point the finger of blame. Absurd rants about 'chest beating car drivers who feel they're entitled to put all of our lives in danger' are no more helpful than irrelevant talk of 'data showing that a high percentage of pedestrians hit by cars are intoxicated'.
  16. It really depends what we mean by giving pedestrians "priority". If we mean that people should be able to step out into the road at any point and expect cars to patiently wait for them, then that's obviously not going to happen. But if we mean that drivers should drive carefully in built-up areas, and always be ready to stop in case a pedestrian does unexpectedly step out into the road... surely that's something all drivers should be able to agree on?

?9. Holy shit. Yep, Bossman is good. Might go down there in a bit, actually...
  18. As far as I'm concerned an Island is a form of crossing, so pointless to blame pedestrians for actually using it. An extra zebra crossing would seem sensible - it's a residential area, so why not. Glad the kid is OK.

    random stuff

EP - funny how sometimes you see old b/w photos of London and think how it all looked a bit nicer 'back in the day'. Obviously not the case with post-war central London though..
  20. I keep reading the title as "Urinated by bad reviews - Van Halen in Ed" I probably need an early night.
  21. I don't agree with including soft porn in a newspaper either - but who said it's a "family" paper?
  22. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Immediately create a 21ft exclusion zone around the suspect plant. This advice isn't aimed at the typical London home, is it?
  23. KK/EP - "Tordon" is the stuff you need.
  24. Sounds risky... introducing one imported species to get rid of another.
  25. I think we're starting to get cliched middle-class names mixed up with cliched 'chav' names...
