  1. Lombok and Number 22 are both well regarded.
  2. Fair enough, G82.

The situation isn't helped by the smattering of residents (maybe newcomers attracted by Bellenden Rd?) who seem to regard the businesses (and therefore customers) along Rye Lane with utter contempt.
  4. Popped into that General Store place the other day. They have some nice looking stuff in there - the bread, meat, and cheese all looked really good. But most of the things are a bit too pricey for me, and the selection isn't huge. But I reckon there is a market for a nice deli in the area, so I'm sure they'll make it work.
  5. Far right parties like the UKIP and BNP prey on disaffected voters like Tarot, who want somebody to blame for all our problems, so point the finger at immigration. Luckily most people have the intelligence to see through it. Decline in manufacturing has nothing to do with immigration. The recession has nothing to do with the EU. And none of this has anything to do with the sodding police station.
  6. Cmon KK, we've seen it before against Price and Haye. What were you expecting?
  7. I suspect otta is talking about a guitar amp, while healey is talking about a hi-fi amp.
  8. I think it was too much too soon for Scott Harrison, after all he's been through. Still, damn good effort all things considered. I've always liked him as a boxer, even though he obviously has serious issues outside of the ring. Is this the end of the road for his career? I'm convinced that Audley will lose tomorrow, after which he has got to retire, before his health is compromised. This has gone on long enough. As for Khan - he really should win. I'd really like to see him get his career back on track, but hopefully he has learned to be a bit more humble.

    craft beer

Blue Moon - to be honest I find it drinkable enough, but it's basically a poor imitation of a belgian wheat bear, so just seems a little pointless.

    craft beer

Similar to SJ... I've always been a lager drinker, but over the last couple of years have been shifting more to the pale ale type stuff. Particularly the citrusy American style (including the various british breweries now making "APA" style beer). The "craft" tag is a little silly though, especially when applied to mass produced stuff like Sierra Nevada and Goose Island (even though they taste good).
  11. Isn't it just better to eat a healthy diet every day, and do a bit of exercise? Presumably you're going to need to do that anyway to maintain your weight once you reach your target?
  12. sarz, plenty of people do use these shops, even if you don't. Peckham has a very diverese population, hence the mix of businesses. That's not going to change any time soon.
  13. Aw god, not the pizza thing again!
  14. UncleBen, have you actually read the other posts?
  15. I dunno, most pubs probably serve burgers which are made/bought in bulk. In turn, probably made from mince which was bought in bulk. Not safe to eat rare.
  16. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I wouldn't, however, assume that just because > somewhere was designated as a "hostel" that there > would automatically be problems Quite right. But then the transient nature of the occupants means that the situation could change very quickly. I think Girl82 is being very sensible. As for t.e.d's accusation of "council house hating bigot", I think the OP implied that she wouldn't be bothered if it's a regular council house... so the comment was out of order.
  17. The website states clearly that it's not the official TFL site, and that they charge extra. They're hardly ripping anybody off. Does seem like a bit of a strange business idea though.

Nope, I'm on Ropemaker Street. 5 min walk or so to Whitecross St market. The Carribbean one (if it's the same one I'm thinking of... jerk chicken, etc) is pretty good. I like the Indian wrap place too. I sometimes get them put do me a "special" with a chopped up onion bhaji inside the wrap.
  19. Yes Bob, I believe I have.

StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > White Hart is nice enough but it's the same M&B > template that gives you Plough/Phoenix in SE22. > So, same food and beers Definitely not for food, no. Not sure where you'll get a better selection of beers in Waterloo, though.
  21. Another vote for The White Hart. The bar in the Young Vic is OK too.
  22. I work near Whitecross Street - where you can get burritos, falafel wraps, curries, thai food, huge roast meat rolls, and all sorts of stuff for around ?5-?6. An equivalent amount of food from Pret (i.e. a sandwich and some sort of side) would be similar. The restaurant comparison doesn't stack up either, I can't think of anywhere other than McDs/KFC where you can sit and eat hot food for that sort of money.
  23. Some Peckham residents like nail bars and hair extensions.
  24. "Bubbly" is the one to avoid. It's just shorthand for stupid and annoying.
  25. You can't just start saying "get rid of the scruffy dentists/betting shops/hairdressers", etc. The customers, employees, and owners are part of the local community too. I am in completely in favour of restoring the station, but it needs to be done with sensitivity. Will existing businesses be given any assistance with relocation?
