No, we already discussed Eltham. -

I think you answered your own question LondonMix. Once kiddies come along, people don't want to risk ending up living somewhere a bit shit. It's still a choice though, isn't it? Not everyone can afford to buy a place in the area they'd like to live in, you make the choice which suits you best within your budget. -

There are bound to be other areas of London coming through which are "up-and-coming" and more affordable (many of us ended up in ED beceause it fell into that bracket 10+ years ago). It's not as if people are being forced into a straight-up choice between ED and Oxted. It all depends on whether you're willing to take a bit of a punt on slightly further out in SE or East London. -
Is it OK for someone to join (and re-join) the EDF specifically to piss off other users and start arguments? Clearly not. I don't see anyone saying that it is.

I don't think it's a breakdown in communication. It's about whether a statement which has several possible connotations - one of which is offensive - is OK. Some people think it's not OK to leave yourself open to interpretation in that way. Others don't see a problem. I'm fine with either of those opinions. But a couple of people are effectively saying "I think you meant that, therefore you're racist"... which just doesn't make sense.

As you said before, Groves is great to watch. But I really would have liked to see him in with some more contenders (Bute, Bika, Abraham) first. As it is, Groves goes in as a huge underdog. Still, there's no shame in losing to Froch, and as long as he's competitive and doesn't get hurt, losing shouldn't do his career any harm. Win, and he becomes a star. Either way he'll earn bags of cash, so why not.

Yeah I guess UB has made his bed to a certain extent, as he clearly has a rather 'confrontational' forum persona. Clearly the joke CAN be (presumably) misinterpreted, as about 50% of the posters here have demonstrated. But I'm still struggling to see why, out of the many meanings you could infer, so many people automatically jump to the worst case scenario.

The jump in price from a flat to a house has gone up, for sure. Whereas before houses were proportionately cheaper (hence all those developers splitting up houses into flats), now it's the other way round. But people being priced out of areas once you need space for a family... that's always happened as far as I can tell. -

Everything you say is true MrBen, but it's all been happening for years and years. People moving into the suburbs once they have families... that's what my parents did in the 70s. People moving into ED from other areas and changing the area... that's already been happening since the turn of the century. Most of us on here have already played our part in that. -
To be honest the chances are that at some point I HAVE joked about staff in Indian restaurants "contaminating" food. Nothing to do with their nationality, but because they're in fairly low paid jobs, often dealing with boorish drunken customers. Whether I'd make a similar joke on here... probably not. Not because I believe it's morally wrong, but because a) it's not very funny and b) it's inevitable that a few people will zero in on one particular aspect of the story and turn it into something it's not.

It would be kind of ironic if a former church building became a cinema...

Yeah, I saw that. And I'm sure you're right. Behind all the schoolboy jokes and OTT outrage here, there's actually a topic worth discussing. Curbs on immigration are making it much harder for companies to employ qualified staff, whether it's chefs, software developers, or engineers.

You forgot the vodka there, MM.

Perfect, PR.

The best curry argument is as old as the forum itself! We even had a vote once... and I tried the winning restaurant afterwards and thought it was awful. But for me, DT is the most reliable since the demise of the Pistachio Club, and I like the old school vibe. People have different tastes. And possibly high staff turnover results in inconsistent food/experience.

Can we stop with the proper famous people who have actually acheived things (Richard Ayoade, David Haye, etc), and get back to supporting actors in TV shows I've never heard of please.

polla - have you met UncleBen? I think you'd get on well! -
Not impressed with Malik's padded record, consiting largely of 8 round UDs against journeymen. Chisora should take this one. Hard to see where he goes from here if he loses... Prizefighter?

I'd understand why people might do that, but that's not the way I'm hard-wired...

I dunno. In some imaginary world where kids come up to other kids in Dulwich Village and demand they hand their girlfriends over... anything is possible. Possibly one of the girls is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In which case they're probably safe.

One paper (The Independent?) described a visit to Franks as urban deprivation tourism...

Working in my first job many years ago, there was a deli across the road and they used put some sort of creamy sauce/dressing on all the food from one of those squirty bottles. Frankly, it usually looked like somebody had jizzed into your lunch. I once joked that they always put a lot of love into their food - it seemed funny at the time. Good job I didn't work with the good people of this forum, otherwise I would have been dragged up in front of HR.
-
Many people obvi... Dammit Sue you nearly dragged me into it. Must... resist...

I actually laughed at the Chicken tarka masala joke. People are forever being accused of racism on here... I think it's a sport for some people. Better to stay out of it, you can't win.
