Erm... maybe because most people are at work during the daytime?
  2. OK... yeah on a personal level obviously you have to feel sorry for the owner of the costcutter. But as for the shop itself, will anyone really miss it? Surely Sainsbury's sell better quality grub.
  3. I don't see the big deal about losing a costcutter. I'm all for local independant shops which offer something different, but Costcutter doesn't really fall into this category.
  4. Quids, I've never actually parked there, as I only live a 15 min walk away... but I don't mind admitting that I was thoroughly freaked out when trying to find my way up to Frank's!
  5. Dark, quiet car park. In Peckham. No thanks.
  6. I quite like her. Sort of. I think she's for real, but likes winding people up.
  7. There are some areas of science which we totally failed to foresee. There are other areas where we have consistently over-estimated future progress, ever since they first hit the radar. AI and robotics are prime examples.
  8. The article is totally in the realms of sci-fi. Even if self-aware artificial intelligence ever does become possible, it will be so far in the future, that any current debate is redundant. It's a pseudo-intellectual article, revolving around a fictional premise, and a dilema which will probably never occur.
  9. Good call Keef.
  10. Thai food Korean food Japanese food Fish & chips Pie Burger Salt beef sandwich with pickles and mustard Hot dog Scampi in a basket Moules+frites Fry up Toasted cheese
  11. Roger Moore should definitely use the 176 more often. He could karate chop all the little scrotes blasting crap music from their phones.
  12. Local shops are not going to compete with large chains of superstores and lean online businesses on price. What they can compete on is expertise, advice, customer service, etc. So if you have a DIY problem and don't know what tools or parts you need, then that's when places like Dulwich DIY *should* come into their own. Similarly if you need a very specific size/shape of bath or shower, then Bells have access to loads of suppliers, and can offer a much greater variety than most DIY chains. And also if you need to return or change any bits, then they're a very short drive away.

I actually find most of their stuff quite expensive, but the guys in the shop are (mainly) fairly helpful.
  14. One More Night - Phil Collins (although he does work best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist - and I stress the word artist).
  15. Older then david_carnell, younger than *Bob*.
  16. Head. Right over.
  17. pbateman, what are your views on Genesis? Do you think Phil Collins works better within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist (and I stress the word 'artist')?
  18. Strange Town - The Jam
  19. pinkcustard - Waitrose, M&S, Boots, music store, Baby Gap, Office... I think what you're looking for is actually a shopping mall. Bromley is that way... (* points south *)
  20. Yeah, the Lib Dem guy... Johnny Clegg. And the Green Party. They're really good. And George Galloway.
  21. Mitcham's got soul, you should give it a go. And East Ham.
  22. In the archive? More like the top of the first page. I'm not sure if we really need a club round here - it's a suburb after all. There are plenty of places within a couple of miles, and more clubs than you could ever possibly visit if you don't mind travelling into Soho, Shoreditch/Hoxton, or whatever.
  23. The music shops in ED are more the type you'd take your 11 year old to buy a recorder.
  24. Ooh I do like a good meta-debate.
