Also The East London Line extension (AKA London Overgound) goes a very different route to the existing train line, so it seems a bit odd to cite it as a direct replacement. For my money, a direct route to Victoria and London Bridge is a lot more useful than links to Clapham Junction, Canada Water, and Shoreditch. Perhaps it may be useful for those poor individuals who travel to Canary Wharf, but it's only a slight improvement over going via London Bridge. And I think you'll find that trying to get on an eastbound Jubilee Line tube at Canada Water at peak time is far from easy!
  2. So we're looking for a seventeen-year old computer with a big red light. See you in the EDT then...
  3. *Bob* - actually, after watching "Hackers" the other day (featuring a young Angelina Jolie with a strange hair-cut), I can confirm that this kind of activity is indeed commonplace.
  4. KidK, it was a combination of the generalisation ("they will"... as if it is a foregone conclusion), and the language/tone ("their own kind"). It is not just offensive to the target, it's also offensive to those of us who do not marry "into our own kind". If Lilly's hacker has said "hey, good luck davy, but depending on where she's from, there's a good chance she'd prefer a partner from her own background", I don't think there'd have been a problem.
  5. Was thinking of going in last night actually. Walked past. Looked rubbish. Went to EDT instead. Oh well.
  6. Short(ish) brown hair... early thirties but look about fifteen... black shirt and jeans (probably). HAL9000 - how about you? I know you usually look like this... http://people.ict.usc.edu/~pynadath/images/hal-9000-eye.jpg ...but how will we recognise your human incarnation?
  7. Piers is the HTML king!
  8. Agreed - what is the point? To make Louisa feel bad? To make yourself look superior? If you don't agree with what someone says, isn't it better to address the content of the message rather than the syntax?

I don't usually get home until around 7:30, but will get to the EDT as soon as I can. How will I recognise you all though?! I did meet Mike P once (he may or may not remember!) but it sounds like he will not be at the EDT...
  10. A barber once told me that although you cannot wash dreadlocks, it is common to clean the scalp with a cotton wool pad and white spirit. Sounds unlikely to me though... I would have thought it would dry out the skin, creating awful dandruff.

Quorn or Euthanasia... tough decision actually.

  13. Simon, your cats hate being stroked? Do they permit any interaction whatsoever? Also, with dog-walking. Do the "pros" ever let the dogs off the leash? If so, does the dog actually bother returning, given that they're not the owner?
  14. I'm sure we shall find out in due course...
  15. I think you misunderstood what I was hinting at, honklenk. Someone was saying that they hope it's going to be a serious sushi joint - and I was expressing doubt. Never mind. I shall reserve further judgement until I actually try it.
  16. The bottom end of Court Lane or Woodwarde road is a good location, close to North Dulwich station and the Village. I wouldn't move to the top end of Court Lane personally, unless you like buses.
  17. I never, ever hear the planes. Even when I'm outside, I barely notice them. I don't think there's anything wrong with my hearing...
  18. Horsebox, you're right. Hanging's too good for 'em - torture is the only language they'll understand.
  19. OK... count me in if it is not too late!
  20. Roger and Serena. (Dinara Safina in with a good shot though... although we've yet to see if she's consistent).
  21. Gerrard - you have a point, it does tend to transcend nationalities, and tennis fans still love watching great players, even when no brit is involved. I still think majority of us would like to see a british winner (myself included). But if/when Murray is knocked out, I imagine most tennis fans will root for someone based on talent, style of play, and personality.
  22. C'mon, let's keep this thread on tennis!!
  23. I'd like to come, but I don't know any of you. It's all a bit too scary.
  24. You should have followed her home and stalked her. That would be a much better movie.
  25. The Andy Murray comment about England/football was taken out of context. The other guys were teasing him about Scotland not getting into the World Cup, so he just took the piss back. Funny how these things get blown out of proportion. My predictions: SF1: Murray vs Del Potro SF2: Djokovic (or maybe Cilic) vs Federer Final: Del Potro vs Federer Federer to win.
