Not to mention the elderly, > those with children, etc. I wasn't being totally serious. But there more I think about the idea, the more I like it. Fold down seats could be provided, which are locked shut during peak hours. The elderly could have a separate compartment with floral armchairs and free cakes... give us all something to look forward to in a few years time.
  2. I think it would probably be better if they got rid of all the seats, instead just having a large space for standing! At least the network might be able to cope with the volume of passengers then.
  3. We did have train carriages like that (although rather more scruffy) until a couple of years ago...
  4. They are open 24 hrs during the week...
  5. Potato scallops... round slices of potato battered and deep fried. I sometimes used to have those in Liverpool too, but they were absolutely filthy! But my most memorable culinary memory from Liverpool was getting a Chinese takeaway, and being asked if I'd like "half and half": which turned out to be half egg fried rice and half chips.
  6. Without doubt the Monarchy are an out-dated institution, but I'm not aggressively anti-monarchy. I see them as a fairly harmless bunch, who probably bring in more money to the country via tourism than they consume from our taxes. And I think that they're becoming increasingly aware of how they really fit into modern society. I'd have no moral problem accepting an honour, it would probably be quite fun... sort of.
  7. Maybe there *is* demand, otherwise it wouldn't be opening? Surely the owners are not fools? Macroban, if I didn't know better I'd think that you actually wanted a recession....
  8. It's a nice road... was thinking of moving there myself (could be the same flat as the one you have your eye on), until I decided to buy a fixer-upper nearby instead!
  9. If someone is from a different ethnic background - but I don't want to offend them by assuming that they're "foreign" - I usually just ask them if they've always lived in Britain/England/London or whatever.
  10. SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And as for the minging drumsticks - gosh I > wish you were my daddy.. Aha, but hopefully (if I ever have kiddies) my food budget would be more than ?30 a week! Was just trying to point out a situation which lots of families probably face.
  11. It's statements like "move on or move out" which kind of get my back up to be honest. I think it shows a lack of respect for people who have lived in the area for longer than you or I.
  12. Some people are confusing the subject... I don't believe that eating healthily is necessarily linked with shopping ehtically. And regarding the chickens... if I had to feed a family on ?30 a week or whatever, and I had the choice of a ?3 chicken or a ?6 chicken, I guarantee I would not buy the ?6 one! (in fact I would probably buy neither, I would probably get the minging bumper pack of cheapo drumsticks).
  13. > transport challenged neck of the woods The transport in ED is fairly poor, especially for rush-hour commuting into central London. Or on a Sunday. But apart from that, I can't agree with "8 Track Cartrige Family". I'm afraid that you come across as rather selfish and arrogant.
  14. > the cinema in Peckham is great and only ?2.99 a seat - not so very far to go Agreed, it's a bargain - but some of us would like something which shows films which were a bit different from the mainstream offerings shown at the multiplexes. An independant cinema which could show indie and foreign films (as well the cream of the mainstream crop) would be excellent, but I'd be very surprised should it happen. Anyway back on topic... surely it can't be long before the local gift/tat/nik-nak market reaches saturation point. Mrs Robinson is an excellent shop and clearly the market leader along LL, and Ed always seems popular. I'd say Moo Too or Celestial could find themselves in trobule. Or maybe Roullier White?
  15. It's now 2008. People are still buying stuff there.
  16. If they can afford to set up in the West End and Canary Wharf, I doubt they're finding it hard to meet the rents in East Dulwich.
  17. Glad this has been lounged!! I just wonder how much reduction one could get from the asking price with the GV15 or DKH flats. They clearly aren't selling well, it wouldn't surprise me if they were willing to negotiate down as much as 10%.

I play drums too... as well as keyboards, saxophone, guitar (and a bit of bass I guess). Just joined a band recently, but always up for getting together with local types for jamming and similar experimentation.
  19. Fry up some onions with chilli, garlic, curry powder (or whatever spices you want)... add baked beans... simmer until thick and dense in texture... serve on wholemeal toast. Delicious!!
  20. SeanMacGabhann hits the nail on the head! With various social engagements (often made at short notice) or going to my girlfriend's place, I probably only eat at home a couple of nights a week. Too many times, the tasty looking veg I'd bought turns out to be inedible by the time I get round to eating it!
  21. Cramped? 860 sq ft according to my details. That's quite big for a 2 bed flat!
  22. Kids can't pay "Christmas monies" into their account via online banking though, can they? Perhaps the the aunties and uncles could have transferred the money into the kids' accounts directly?
  23. Do you mean the funny shaped white building? Yeah they've been on the market for ages now. As Robb says, I'm sure you could pick one up for a massive reduction from the asking price. On the other hand, there have been new-builds in the area which have sold fairly well recently.
  24. "new Barclays"?? What new Barclays? The one on LL has never been open on Saturdays as far as I know. In fact I don't know of any barclays branch which is open on a Saturday. I know it's awful...
