Really? "Silicon Valley" has been a thing since the 70s. And we've had 20 years of dot-com startups in the bay area. You'd think they'd be used to it by now.
  2. Yep, all roads round there are free to park (no metres or controlled parking). But I would suggest Quorn Road (or somewhere on that side of the main road). Parking along St Francis Road, Melbourne Grove, etc is very tight, and even the residents sometimes have a hard time finding a space.
  3. LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I thought that side of ED road was SE15 rahrahrah? The roads coming off it are. But ED rd itself is SE22. I guess when it's a corner building, it will depend which side the entrance is on. Not that it's particularly important. Don't know about you, but I don't detect any immediate difference when crossing the threshold into SE15! And the houses round there are just as desirable/expensive than SE22.
  4. I'm not sure that privileged backgrounds and public school are at the heart of the matter. It's not that Cameron/Osborne don't realise the amounts people earn, or the struggles they face. It's more a matter of ideology. But as LM says... not sure how this is related to the current scandal. And I'm not actually sure what Cameron is supposed to be personally guilty of here.

It's Peckham Rye, peeps. So say the > estate agents so it must be true.......... I've always called it "Peckham Rye", because it's the name of the station, and it's near the common. Nothing to do with estate agents! If you want annoying estate agent names for that area... try "Bellenden Village", or better still, "The French Quarter".
  6. Yep, Thompson, Helenius, or even Malik Scott would be OK fights for AJ next.
  7. Not exactly an impartial summary, Loz...
  8. He's fighting at LWW, so is not likely to cross paths with Eubank Jr in his career. Still... bit of publicity never did any harm I guess...
  9. If you like sci-fi-ish stuff, and quirky humour... Robert Rankin?
  10. Much as I dislike Cameron, I don't think this is resignation territory.
  11. "I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams" by Weezer - back when they were good, 20 years ago. https://youtu.be/dMseH5GIVTA It was a B-side to "The Good Life" from Pinkerton...
  12. It's quite a hard fight to call... they are clearly both strong prospects, but have fought nobody decent (except for Glazkov, but that doesn't count). We don't know what either of them are really made of. Part of me also wants Joshua to lose... not because I dislike him, but because the hype is absurd. It almost reminds me of someone like Audley Harrison or David Price, hyped up for knocking over nobodies. I think Josh is better - much better - than those guys... but he has a long way to go.

  14. I have nothing against Pret, but there's no precedent for them opening up in suburban London... they're all in the centre. Subway - there is one in Peckham, I often see school kids getting their breakfast in there (times have certainly changed!)
  15. Pret have stores in city/town centres and major high streets. Who the hell would use on on LL? Estate Agents on their lunch break?
  16. Pushing prams... drinking coffee... who do these people think they are? I long for the days where women didn't dare to have children, and drank only Lambrusco.
  17. What ? said... it simply takes more manpower to investigate 100,000 suspected of benefit fraud, than it does to investigate 5,000 high net worth individuals suspected of evasion. (I made the numbers up of course) They're both wrong (again... IMO...) just because the sums are vastly different, I don't draw a moral distinction.
  18. Hmm. Normally if you just tell your GP you have insurance, they'll write you an open referral...
  19. LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Fair enough Jeremy if you find the behaviors ethically equivalent. Yep. Legality and morality are not always as strongly correlated as we'd like them to be.

Of course - I wasn't specifically pointing to Cameron. More the broader case of the wealthy avoiding tax, vs the rest of us avoiding tax. We're talking about larger sums of money, but morally I don't draw a distinction. LondonMix Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It isn't equivalent because using offshore > structures isn't illegal unlike what the plumber > is doing. I didn't say it is legally equivalent, I said it is "ethically equivalent"... and I also said "in my opinion", as (as miga said), morality is relative. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There are plenty of people who chose not to avoid > tax believe it or not. I'm sure there are, but in some occupations, avoidance or evasion is basically the norm. In the field I work in, literally every freelance worker (of which I am not one) takes measures to reduce tax to varying degrees.
  21. The main advantage is that you get seen a lot quicker for minor/moderate complaints, and better accommodation if you need to stay in hospital. Main problem I've had with insurers is that they often want you to go to their choice of location. BUPA, for instance, informed me that they don't cover MRI scans at Kings, I'd need to go to Lewisham. And obviously you're still stuck with the NHS GP and A&E services... frankly I'm not sure I'd bother.
  22. IMO it's ethically equivalent to the plumber who asks to be paid cash, or the IT contractor who avoids tax by paying himself dividends. Almost everyone who can, does - so to blame the individuals seems rather pointless. Like BB says.. you need to close down the loopholes...
  23. "Go" was the lead single from the second Pearl Jam album - although it was rather a forgettable song. However, as some kind of protest/stunt, the single came with a one-track cassette of "Animal" stuck to it, to prevent it from being eligible for the singles charts. "Animal" was a far better song than "Go"... https://youtu.be/d8fggO6g-8s

  25. Yeah, really can't see this being a pop-up. I assumed the pop-up(s) were just the landlord's way of getting a bit of rental income, while he was waiting for a longer term tenant with deep pockets.
