  1. RD... you're right, my memory is failing me. There was a signed party wall agreement - basically just a standard template on a single sheet of A4. No solicitors involved though.
  2. I mean... 180bhp is OK for a car I suppose. But a 2 tonne van? What do you drive the rest of the time?
  3. I was trying to provoke you into a car argument (thought it would make a nice change from the EDF norm) but not sure I've really got it in me...
  4. Isn't the stamp duty increase on BTL and second homes?

  7. When we had some work done a few years back, the neighbours just took photos of the wall and sent it to us (and the builders) before the work started. I think it's a fairly common arrangement, and IMO it's quite sensible if the builder has a reasonable reputation/presence locally. And you might be glad of the good will if you decide to do your own extension or loft conversion at some point.
  8. Chief - I believe the previous frequency will be restored when London Bridge work is complete.
  9. malumbu Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > seems to be driven more by investment return than physical need. One hell of an assumption... And I don't understand the implied juxtaposition between a housing shortage and extending your home.
  10. pilsbury - I don't really know. The "official" opening times don't seem to mean much, as they were definitely open after 8pm on Monday. 1pm-8pm seems like odd hours for a takeaway. They don't seem to have a phone number... but they are active-ish on Twitter, maybe try there if you are a user?
  11. Sounds like a lot of money for a unit off the beaten track, 23 years ago. Must have been tough making it work. I think 13 is actually residential still..
  12. Someone nicked the glass out of my wing mirror a couple of years ago. Just the glass. And of course being a modern(ish) car with electric/heated/auto-tint mirrors, it cost a bomb to replace. Was obviously a case of somebody with the same car wanting the part. Really annoying and selfish, but what can you do? This stuff happens everywhere though. I don't think ED - or even London - are disproportionately affected.
  13. I'm not as old as I look, LM.

Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I just came across a menu which I picked up from > Rosie's on Saturday, and it's actually free range > scrambled eggs on toast with chilli jam :) > > And the menu I have says it's ?5.50 Yes, I've had it - and it's very nice. Truth be told I'd probably pay ?7 for it.
  15. Head to the hipster places in Peckham... Bar Story, Peckham Springs, Rye Wax, The Nines, Four Quarters. Would be surprised if any of them are showing the rugby.
  16. I think the key (for me) is that despite the price rises (which have been London-wide), this area still offers the best combination of proximity to the centre, "nice-ness", and price.
  17. If you insist on judging ED exclusively by SE London standards, then yes it's one of the most popular places (after Greenwich and Blackheath I'd guess). But looking at the whole of London, within a similar proximity to the centre - it's not a hotspot by any means. SW/W/N all more popular (and yes the transport is of course part of that). So my original statement stands.
  18. To be fair, plenty of pubs are closing down (Hoopers and Oglander to name a couple more). Changing tastes, changing habits.. very difficult to make a trad boozer work these days. Families tend to do things together more than they did in the previous generations. Hence the rise in family friendly restaurants, cafes and pubs.

  20. Everyone knows opening a cafe or restaurant is easy money. GUARANTEED. You'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
  21. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I do not believe E.D. is a better place to be old > with or without kids.. But where is.. ? Let me clarify - it is a good place to be a parent (by "old" I was being a little self-deprecating), if you can afford it. Of course, it is overpriced, as is all of London and the SE... but separate discussion.
  22. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > or go to a greasy spoon charging ?2 for the same thing? a) Where is this place b) By "the same thing", do you actually mean something completely different?
  23. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Look I'm not dissing ED, it is what it is, and > it's nice enough. But in my opinion (and that's > all it is), it has become more dull in the last 10 years. ED was a better place to be young and free 10 years ago. It's a better place to be old and with kids now.
  24. I don't think there's any myth. If people really did think it was an incredible omg totes amazing place to live, it would be more expensive. As it is... probably about average for zone 2/3.
