Great, Thank you for your replies. At the moment he has swimming at Alleyn's at 11.50am on a Sunday (if anyone is looking for a relaxed but great swimming club I can highly recommend!) so clashes but will see what we can sort out....

Having just bought a computer for my son I have found the initial set-up, privacy set-up, gaming set-up a complete minefield!! I am also continually being asked can I connect, can I have a you tube account, can I have an email account...it goes on and on...I have no idea what is safe, what to look out for etc... Our school has started to take this seriously and has done some great work on e-safety but think there may be a market out there for 1:1 or small group workshops to work through these issues with parents and children. Maybe a course with 5/6 hands on sessions setting up your computer safely, a session on Facebook, one on minecraft, one on email etc..so we cld learn how it works and how to do it safely. We are probably not a target market as we don't have much money but it seems to be a really important emerging subject for tutors to cover?....just a thought...

Son had a great session at school with a coach today and loved the sport - any local recommendations? He wants to do contact not tag... Thanks in advance :)

Rob are you saying that as an employer the traditional Microsoft skills are important to learn or do you think they'll be outdated soon by Google and Dropbox?

Thanks Rob - my only concern with those is that they talk about using the cloud etc to run and our internet is pretty slow at the best of times....do you think this should be a concern? We should probably change internet providers but that's a whole other job!

We are thinking of getting our son a computer in readiness for secondary school - it needs to be a laptop because of space issues at home but it will be kept and used at home. Any advice on what make, spec etc would be appropriate much appreciated - we are a Mac family thus far but am thinking PC may save us money and be more comptible with those at school? We will also want to buy a full size keyboard to use with it so that he can touch type - I'm guessing this is easy enough these days.... Thank you

One greenbottle is a great make recommended to me on here they have a website and the Eco shop opposite the cinema sells them ( sorry name slipped my mind)

Put them in order you want, that way you remain on waiting lists for all those above the one you get. All your choices go into a computer - It works out which schools can offer you a place based on all other applicants that year. Then the computer checks which one of these schools that can offer you a place is furthest up your list. Putting a school first doesn't make it any more likely you will get in.

Hi James, Looking at secondary schools many of the nearer but not walking schools (kingsdale, St Thomas, Elmgreen, Deptford Green) are on the P13 route but I have heard that the journey can be busy (others say 'a nightmare') around school times. My guess is that this route existed to pick up people on a winding route that otherwise would be missed but it seems it is now quite an artery for many schools (I am guessing there maybe some primaries too?) Do you think there is anyway of getting more buses on this route, particularly around school times?
