  1. Thank you...gutted, it is the weekend of my mother's 80th...will have to send the teenager to indulge...unlikely to be any chocolate left by the time I get back though :(
  2. On my way home from school pick-up this week a P&J Ellis Coach was double parked preventing an ambulance with siren and lights from getting through....I will email the the addresses above and cc James Barber in. Wish I'd taken a photo...

  13. BMX holiday scheme at burgess park
  14. Mavis beacon and there are intensive/holiday courses called something like 'yes' touch typing...not tried as seemed expensive and couldn't believe they would learn that quickly but would be a start?
  15. I will not let my son cycle on the road not because he isn't a proficient rider but because, regardless of how he cycles, the roads are too dangerous due to the driving of many vehicle drivers. It is dangerous for adults to ride on the road, why would I put him at the same risk? We do not have a car and cycling to school is a much healthier way to get to school anyway so I don't want to put him off. Making cycling safer should be the priority not berating kids who are trying to travel in a healthy and environmentally neutral way.
  16. Thanks everyone, including the pm's for taking the time to give your experience/knowledge....really helpful...taking it all in.... :)
  17. On the proviso that no screens go into the bedroom.... What are people's thoughts or anyone know what the research says? We are having big screen time battles and it has been suggested we hand responsibility over to our son to manage his own time on the understanding that he must also get his homework done and turn the computer off at a certain time. If so what is appropriate time to have it turned off by and what parental control apps have people used that restrict use to between certain hours.... Can children manage this or will it just result in addiction? (At present we are very strict to 1-1.5hr day on games) Any advice welcome :)
  18. Does anyone have any recommendations for books that help adolescent boys understand what's going on in the pre-teenage and teenage years? Also anyone had experience of family counsellors that can help out at this difficult stage? All advice/rececommendations welcome :) Thank you
  19. Rugby on a Sunday morning 10.30-12 at Burbage road, great friendly small club feel - Kings College Hospital Pirates
  20. If you're looking for a private dentist then I can thoroughly recommend Madalina at the Townley Road practice....She is one of the kindest, most professional dentists I have used.
  21. Lloyds do kids accounts with an atm card I think...
  22. Yes Maudsley is just opposite Kings. Her GP can do an urgent referral and/or she can self-refer (or I guess you could do it for her). Give them a ring - Can't find a self-referral number but I think this is the general number 'Our switchboard number, for general enquiries, call redirection and bleep requests operates 24hrs a day on 020 3228 6000'. Please reassure her that there is a load of help out there, especially if she can go private and that she will feel better. The therapists understand what's going on when we ourselves feel like everything is unravelling. There are also other therapists who specialise in post-natal issues locally. One that seems well recommended on here is Christine Langoff (from memory) - think her tag name is Dulwichpsychology...(a bit vague but you should be able to find her). Well done for being a great friend...even though you're far away..
  23. Yes, this year six was a two form entry with smaller classes....
  24. I would find somewhere where you are in the catchments for Bessemer and Charter...but also don't know if you realise but a new Charter is opening on the old hospital site..it has had its first intake at a temporary site but will move in in a couple of years...
  25. Just to add, you will also automatically be put on the waiting list for any schools that are above in your preference order. So if you are offered your 2nd choice you will go on the waiting list for your first choice.
