Wouldn't that link to the twitter account of Met Police helicopter in the sky say what they were doing then?

man befriending child in peckham rye park
Gidget replied to yummumbums's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Was listening to the Vanessa Feltz programme on BBC London for first hour this morning. She had the head of the NSPCC on. A caller phoned in and talked about her grandfather abusing her when she was small. She hadn't spoken about it before, but after she had children she refused to allow him anywhere near them. Eventually she reported him to the police and he was put on the Sex Offenders Register only as it was longer than 20 years. Apparently it took the cops three months to pay a visit to him. I did not know there was a time limit on sexual abuse. The NSPCC chap said they received many calls regarding family members carrying out abuse and then Vanessa cut him off. Very frustrating listen. He should be brought back on in order to discuss what to do. -

So someone posts this story on a forum, and hasn't reported it to police? Why not? So they can canvass opinions on whether or not this is a good idea? Where in the park was this? Has she met this man only in the park? What is he doing there - hanging around a certain area like the playground? -

There was a thread here a while back which said someone had offered a school child a life. A text was then sent out by the school. What happened in that case? -

Children make mistakes, yes, so I am wondering what this child has been told about strangers, taking lifts etc. Perhaps she thought that if she had met someone more than once they weren't a stranger. -

I don't remember what she told me beforehand. No doubt it went in one ear and out the other. But she was obviously trying to test me, and it certainly worked. I was petrified. -

My mother set me up with someone she knew but I didn't. I was walking back from the bus stop where the school bus had dropped me. It was several blocks from my home. A car pulled up alongside me and and said Hello to me and included my name. She said she was going to my house to see mother and did I want a ride. I stupidly got in the car and she drove me home to a terrible telling off from my mother. I have never forgotten it. I was about 11 or 12, certainly under 13 as I was 13 when I left that school. -

Does sound very odd. Now, don't all shout at once. Wonder why the 11 year old thought it was OK to get in the car with the man? Would be interested to know what life lessons she has been given. Time for a re-think..... A description of the guy would be useful. -

I agree with you Pommie, but I think that telling people they have to take 2 kittens just adds to the cat population in whatever local area they end up in. It's rather short-sighted of the rescue places to do that. Not everyone wants 2 cats at the same time.

Cupcake shop? Is that a good thing? A more wide-ranging bakery would be better imo. Gastropubs are everybloodywhere now.

Do a search in top right hand corner in search box and you will find many threads.

Carpgirl, To end up with 2 dogs after hating them for so long? Did someone just turn up at your house one day with the first one?

MrBen, Which businesses do you think are champion?

Wish they could DNA the butts! So annoying and unnecessary. Quite a few councils like Westminster send patrols out to where people sit having a coffee and a cig. They then pounce when they are dropped on the ground. Think I would find that job very satisfying.

Rather subjective I guess, seeing as some people are keen to have Wagamama come here as it is their favourite restaurant.

JB, I know this isn't in your ward but there is a couple of people in Copleston, who stand outside their house, in their front garden smoking. The man leans on the fence blowing smoke on the pavement. The woman stands further back. They throw the butts out onto the pavement when they are finished, quite often right in front of people who are walking by. Was gobsmacked the first time I saw it. The pavement and gutter is littered with their butts. Have seen it over half a dozen times now. Their house is next to the entrance to Hayes Grove. Can anything be done to stop them doing this? I can understand the smoking outside, but surely you would stub out the cigarette on your own property and then put it in the bin.

To do any dog control orders you have to have a local authority employee empowered to do something. They are useful for fining people who don't pick up dog poo; I know a few people who have received fines. With regard to a dog off lead in an area signposted, the local authority person has to ask you to put the dog on the lead and if you do so they can't fine you. They can't just fine you for having let the dog go into that area. I don't know anyone who has got a fine for refusing to do so, but I do know someone who kept letting her dog worry the ducks at Peckham Rye and she got a fine.

Also agree with RoseH, sunlover and bonniebird. Have never lived in an area where I have seen so many roaming cats in front of houses and on the roads. Have also never heard of so many cats being killed and injured by cars mostly, but also dogs. I would be very reluctant to get another cat and let it go out now, due in main to foxes/ cars, not dogs so much. Foxes do a good job of keeping down the rat population. Cats are useful in keeping down the mouse population. I do not like it either when they kill birds. I only had one cat who did that, he brought home a pigeon through the cat flap when he was quite young. Otherwise he only killed the odd mouse that appeared in the house and for that he was useful. I kept him in at night, after a couple years of letting him go out whenever he wanted, after realizing that his night/early hours roaming were causing him to get injuries. Minor ones but I still had to keep taking him to the vet. He had many abcesses caused by bites from other cats. He was also a neutered male. It was only in this area that he encountered problems with other cats. I don't agree with the encouragement, or should that be enforcement, of rescue places to always get two kittens. That in itself bumps up the cat population. There are too many people out there who just get a cat as an easy option for a pet. They don't want a smelly litter tray in the house, so they get a cat flap and force the cat to exit the house in all weathers in order to relieve itself. I hate other cats coming in my garden to dump their mess. My cats always had a litter tray and they loved using it, esp. when I got one of the covered ones. You need to get them using it from a young age.

Those signs in the park mean nada. They are unenforceable. But I agree that dogs should not be in the fenced in picnic area/or playground areas. It would have been better if the fence was higher as many dogs can jump it, especially if a squirrel is spotted. I also don't see a problem if dogs use the pond for swimming and that is deemed an on-lead area. Why?

Best route to faringdon/Clerkenwell area?
Gidget replied to poppet27's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Getting to Lordship Lane from where OP lives would be a hassle for anyone who has suggested that route. Would surely add another 15 minutes onto journey at least. -
Where do you get curtains round here?
Gidget replied to quichel's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you put curtains in the search box upper right hand corner you will find threads where other people have recommended local curtain makers. -
They sell the bread from Brickhouse, local ED bakery. Brickhouse used to sell at Gt. Exhibition pub on Sats. but don't any longer. Still don't understand why black americano coffee is 2.50 drink in or take-away.
