Surely all football is slavery...obviously without the mancles, long journeys by ship, disease, separation from family, sexual and physical abuse etc etc. Unless Carrington has really gone down hill recently. :))

Matt, you know every time you say something bad about Darren Fletcher a Scottish fairy dies. Now clap your hands and say you DO believe in Darren Fletcher.

One of the best England managers. Matt, you are wrong on two points. 1. Giggs is still good enough to do a bit of wing bombing and he is intelligent enough to tailor his game for his slowing down of pace in recent years. He played 28 games in the league alone last season and is still easily good enough to make a difference in a game whether he starts or not doesn't really matter. 2. Darren Fletcher, Scottish and world class. Arguably the one player we missed most in the Champions League final last season.

With Evra and Giggs down the wings, Carrick in midfield and, dare I say it, Rooney spraying the ball around from just off the front I don't think we are lacking in playmakers. I also think that Nani will have a good season (famous last words) now that Ronaldo has freed up some space for him. I shouldn't worry too much about that Matt. I think your biggests worry, as you say, is depth. If Alonso goes and Gerrard or Torres have injury spells then you could struggle in decisive matches. Poor old Dons. 5-1 is just embarrassing.

As Jah says Matt, the young learning from the old! ;)

Huuntlar could be a great signing. I'd have liked to see him at United.
-
Wenger can't bring himself to open the coffers can he? I think you might be right Matt.

But stranger things have happened. It's a tough job though.

It's only half time MM. Don't panic yet. ;-)

V1 & V2 Bombs dropped on Lordship Lane.

Hmm, that's not a series I've come across but having had a quick look it looks interesting. My sense of deja vu was tingling when I found this thread Macro. -

No, I didn't Macro but I do know about the tremendous loss of life. At the time my mother had been evacuated to the Midlands and my father was fighting the Japanese in the Pacific, with the Royal Navy (not alone). My op was an answer to a rather opaque post that seemed a bit random to me. My mother's family were lucky not to have had any bombs dropped on them although my grandfather (who was injured in the Somme in WW1) was bombed out of the factory he worked in. A lot of this stuff has been covered in other threads. The two houses next to the new flats on Anstey Road have completely new top floors and the basements are filled with rubble from bomb damage which blew off the entire first floors. I have done a fair bit of reading around the V1 and V2 projects and have not been able to substantiate the rumours that the government deliberatly misled the Germans who, in turn, kept dropping their V weapons on SE London because they thought they were hitting the docks. The V weapons, whilst being advanced in technology terms, were not very advanced in targeting terms and it was mostly dumb luck that they got to London in the first place. A fascinating and very readable account of the V weapons programme is this book. Macro, sorry if I offended you, it wasn't my intention to belittle the suffering of the people who were caught up in the bombing. As I hope you will see I am not ignorant of the facts, in fact I spend rather a lot of time reading about and visiting World War One and Two sites across Europe and trying to meet as many of the people involved in the conflict to find out about the human story. It was my job for a while. -

Are we having another Liverpool love-in? I see when a United player gets mentioned he gets a slagging, mention one of their lot and it's all huggy, huggy, touchy-feely, lovey-dovey. ;-)

Did you not see? Last week it was. There was police tape up and everything. William rose was devastated and in Liquorice several cocktails were spilled. -
Can you direct me to some of these clever indoor systems? I currently have two in the hall, two in the bedroom and three in the shed. Two can't be stored outside so I'd love to see something I could use indoors.

Unbelieveable. What was the difference in cost of squads. ?60M for the Geordie squad and tuppence for Leyton? Ashley can't get a buyer either. Seems things might go from bad to worse.
-
I was joking too! Where did I slag off your club? Maybe my tongue in cheek paranoia comment was closer to the truth than I thought. :'(
-
Scouse paranoia Anna? What you and Matt never seem to understand (or willfully ignore to suit your own agenda ;-)) about football, football managers and even (shock horror) football fans is they say what suits them at the time. Fergie says what ever's on his mind at the time. The Allerdyce, Benitez thing was an attempt to wind up Rafa to put pressure on Liverpool, a compliment, backhanded maybe but a compliment none the less. Fergie was worried and maybe he's worried by City, I know I am. Look at what he used to say about Wenger when Arsenal were a threat and look how nice he is to him at the moment when they have struggled to perform in the last few seasons. As I said, don't take it personally take it as a compliment. AS for beyond the pale? Hitting a bloke in the face three times and calling it self defence is beyond the pale, calling your closest (geographical) rivals and the team that's nicked a decent player off you small and arrogant is not, it's brinksmanship.
-
Maybe we'll never know the truth. I know not many of you will join me in this but sad news about G Neville being sent home from pre-season injured. I'm not sure he'll ever get back to where he was. :(
-
That's not true according to the reports I read Matt. I'm not on a witch hunt here, he got of and that's that but according to The Guardian he landed all three punches.
-
I can't understand how you can say you are acting in self defence when you get approached by someone (who is obviously angry, but not necessarily violent) grab him by the shirt and hit him in the face three times. Once, maybe. Twice, hmmm. Three times seems a bit excessive. I'm sure he would have been punished if he'd have been an ordinary punter.
-
Sorry Matt, I was joking. I should have used one of these ;) Is that Everton shirt their away kit or some sort of training kit/leisure wear?
