  1. As an employee of the museum I can only apologise for the rather random nature of this persons actions. As with all staff you get the majority who are nice and civilised and you get a minority (you hope) of people who are a bit of a jobs worth. Even we, as staff, sometimes get a hard time from certain members of the security staff and some of them can be very grumpy. All I can say in our defence is that it might have had to do with being able to hear any security warnings/alarms. As we have had a new system fitted in the last few weeks, with the usual teething problems, it has put a lot of the staff on edge. I hope that it won't stop you (or others) coming to the museum which I believe is one of the best in the capital. I am very proud to work for the museum and I'd hate you to come away withthe wrong impression.
  2. It's the Dutch for me!
  3. The EDWG (East Dulwich Writers Group) meet there informally every week. That's all I know about it.
  4. I just hope it doesn't damage the (small) chance of us getting the world cup in my lifetime.
  5. I think there must be a minority of people who accessorise with their dogs and fell that whatever they produce at the other end is not for them to deal with. But I am probably wrong, as usual.
  6. I often wonder if there's a mixture of the 'I can't be bothered' crowd and the 'Too Posh to Pooper-Scoop' crowd.

Please tell me this is tongue-in-cheek. Anyway as my Grandad used to say 'You have to eat a cart load of muck before you die.'

Maybe it's more about what the parents get out of it? Like being able to feel human, see friends etc. I am a new father and walked out of the pub the other evening (The Clockhouse around 6pm) when my daughter started to grizzle, I felt guilty about ruining someone else's night and my wife and I left our drinks unfinished. I don't regularly take her (the baby) to the pub and don't get to go much myself anymore but I wouldn't mind not feeling like a leper on the odd occasion I do. I remember growing up (my parents were not big drinkers or pub goers) being taken to the pub and left outside with a lemonade and a packet of crisps. Is that any better?
  9. See here! Running! And use this to work out distance: Map it!

You're not thinking of The Doggetts Coat and Badge at Blackfriars Bridge are you?
  11. The Horseshoe has got VERY busy since it's been done up. I've been in there a couple of times recently. The St Christophers is a good bet and there are a few others like The Rose if you like a bit of Irish action.
  12. Come on. Manchester United's success was built on several seasons not spending much at all, in fact in the mid 90's I seem to remember us spending about ?250,000 in one season. We built a team around Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, Sharpe etc. with a fabulous keeper and British defenders like Bruce, Pallister. Not to mention McClair and a (bought in, but at a bargain price) talismanic Frenchman. We started spending money when we needed to to perform in Europe (oh, the irony!).
  13. True, but we sell players too. I got that figure from an interview with Rafa that I came across on the web (it never lies you know) in which he was quoted as saying that Man Ure/United had spent ?70M. Not a lot more and also not taking into account players sold. Let's not kid ourselves here. We are lucky we support successful (both on the pitch and in financial terms) teams. I would be very suprised if any of us when we were forming a fledgling relationship with said clubs were ordering copies of their financial projections from the Stock Exchange. I am sorry that I support a rich club and it ruins it for everyone else but thems the breaks. I don't think Liverpool are building their brand spanking new 60,000 (is that all? ;-)) seat stadium so they can give away the extra 15,000 tickets...

  15. It's a dig of course!
  16. Yeah, sorry, I wasn't meaning that he can't tackle was an excuse just that even I wince when he goes into a challenge and ask 'Why?'. It may have been cynical (not much in the game isn't these days!) but not sure if it would have been fair for him to be sent off. Let's hope that next year all the teams are as good as they were this season and it's close again. Except Liverpool ;-)
  17. I think both those decisions would have been a bit harsh but it wouldn't have been suprising to see either given. Scholes knows he can't tackle (so does everyone else) but it would have been a harsh sending off. Rio hit the ball with his shoulder, that's not handball but I'm sure you will disagree. Who do you think you'll get in the qualifying rounds of the Champs League next season?
  18. On to the 21st now. That was more nerve wracking thn it should have been!
  19. More cronyism to clean up? As they were at Oxford together. Cronyism!
  20. Oh, and I forgot to mention the fact that you've not won the European cup. Yours in sappiness. Sandperson.
  21. Man Ure have to spend to achieve where as we don't, and never have even when we went 49 games unbeaten. We leave that shit to Man Ure and Chavski.Same old Manu Ure fans full of MANURE. Ha, ha 'achieve'. Maybe you should spend some money, that way you might win more than three premiership titles in 15 years.

I couldn't let this one pass....I was listening to Radio 5 the other day and a journo who was pretty well connected with Arsenal was talking about this after an interesting discussion at the club AGM. According to him Arsenal have offered Wenger pots of cash to spend on transfers, far more than people would imagine, and it's a continuing and increasing annoyance to the board that he refuses to use the money. Apparently it has become almost a point of principal for Wenger to NOT spend money. So, limited money is a bit of a myth (excuse for poor performance) methinks. :-$
  23. Surely the bendy bus was never about saving space on the roads it was about access for people with disabilities and prams and things. Personally, as a driver, cyclist and bus user (including bendy buses) I don't know what people get their nickers in a twist about. In all three of the above 'capacities' I have never had a problem with them.
