  1. I remember when 9/11 happened. there were not a few people who expressed the view that the Americans deserved it for all the funds that they gave to NorAid! I wonder if the 3.5 million who viewed Aodhan O'Riordain's speech were those who donated.
  2. No-one is turning their backs on the rest of the world- hopefully we are turning our backs on 750 pretty useless and expensive politicians....all they have done is undermine the UK since we joined in 1973-farming, fishing, manufacturing, self-determination - destroyed by the collusion of the quasi socialists in France, Germany, Italy and Belgium in the main.... 'People' were bemoaning the fact that Brexiteers had been conned by false information (and it was even said that on the strength of the 'truth' coming out about the implications that many of them wanted to change their vote)- when in fact it is now obvious that the remainers had been lied to by the doom-mongers (obviously with self-serving interests in staying in). How many remaniacs/remoaners would like to change their vote now?
  3. Yes- I expect the council are saving up all their money to paint the yellow lines at junctions- meanwhile pedestrians are at risk on the pavements. Then of course they will recoup their losses(?) by employing a load of traffic wombles to go around at 3am to put tickets on anyone whose bumper is hanging 1" over the line?
  4. Yes Sue. and Joni Mitchell released Big Yellow Taxi in 1970.....46 years ago........
  5. the worst thing my growing boys have done is take a piss down an alley after the pub and got caught by a cop. So I've done better than OK- yes? Spitting at someone is classified as battery...and is illegal- I would imagine sharing any of your bodily fluids with another without their consent is also illegal.
  6. It's the same all over London. Next the drains will be blocked and we will have floods. Unfortunately, concrete and a pastoral lifestyle do not mix- and speaking sarcastically- I'm surprised that chopping down all the trees hasn't been suggested
  7. This is the Guardian version of Justin Welby's comments https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/mar/11/justin-welby-immigration-unwanted-friends-archbishop-canterbury Theresa May has said similar http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/theresa-may-some-company-bosses-believe-i-am-anti-business-a7417241.html
  8. As the Archbishop of Canterbury pointed out- it is the poor that suffer most under uncontrolled immigration (since they do not own their own homes for a start)- so 'the left' have actually disadvantaged their own historical supporters. It is easy to be idealistic and altruistic when you are sitting pretty.....and you have all the vocabulary to dictate to the dispossessed how they should think and act.
  9. Before the referendum I read a few things (stuff through the letterbox for example) but there were so many contradictions i dismissed the lot and sat and thought about it myself. I thought we would end up staying in- although I decided to vote to leave for various reasons- mainly because I hate politicians and there are 750 MEPs
  10. I don't actually read ANY newspapers or listen to the news at all since it is all doom and gloom and they all have their own agenda. Now and again I catch a snippet online but treat it with scepticism. There is a lot of lying by omission - but none of them are breaking the law or they would have to face the consequences. The fourth estate is as corrupt as any other money-making business, unfortunately whilst trying to maintain a facade of decency in some cases- which in itself is a lie, or hypocrisy. Since between them the Sun, DM and DE have a total sales of under 4 million- and there are people who only read the sport, or only do the puzzle pages. I think that most people make up their minds about what is going on in the UK from their own daily experiences.
  11. And don't forget these morons may have children that grow up in this kind of atmosphere.

    Leonard Cohen

what about his book- Beautiful Losers....He was Canadian so he could have just moved if he wanted to
  13. DaveR is right....let's gag the press unless it is reporting sweetness and light according to the lefty brigade
  14. and if you create an account and don't use it for a while they shut it down!
  15. There is a black box on these trams apparently- so all will be revealed eventually
  16. An American black woman on the news said that she voted for Trump because Obama had failed to deliver on his promises to the black community in his 2 terms. ( 25-49 year olds in the UK -44% voted leave according to the YouGov exit polls, under 25s- 25% leave- big difference- nice graphs here http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/staggers/2016/06/how-did-different-demographic-groups-vote-eu-referendum) I agree with Louisa personally. Don't forget the effects of poor education...the rhetoric may very well have gone over the heads of many people and they have voted according to what they have been experiencing in every day life (the well-off and educated did that too, purely out of self-interest, and then started to scream racism, xenophobia etc)
  17. mikeb- it was just a 'Dangerous Idea' being expressed. I thought he had an interesting perspective- especially as he wrote it in 2006
  18. I don't know how they can call themselves people of faith. They are one of the most intolerant bunch of ignoramuses I have come across in the 'religious' world...although an 18 year old at a catholic school I taught in told me that not going to church is evil..... Picketing Pride is vile- how long before they start behaving like the Westboro' Baptist Church I wonder? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/orlando-shooting-angels-block-westboro-baptist-church-protestors-from-victims-funerals-a7090041.html
  19. Empathise DF. This happened to me last year- you HAVE to take the pain relief in order to keep breathing properly so you don't get a chest infection- the surgery attitude is ridiculous. I was surprised at the lack of stamina I experienced. 2 months to be fully recovered in my case, but stopped the pain relief after one. Good Luck.
