  1. Sue I expect it's to show they followed 'due process'. Bastards. After all the support I gave too.
  2. Is there a transcript of the speech ?
  3. The 'consultation' / 'engage with the community' boxes can now be ticked. Here's your privatisation.
  4. The increasing lack of certainty of full train service between ED and LB has certainly made the last couple of years shit as far as being based in ED and work goes, especially when I was travelling to Milton Keynes daily. If I know anyone considering moving to ED it's the first (probably, only) warning I give. Perhaps I was spoiled the first few years from 1990 and actually what I resent is the delta between then and now, either way it's nowadays predictable only in that there's less certainty now. PLEASE don't anyone bang on about buses, train, walking - I don't do the turning-up at work in sweat thing, nor should I have to if we have a direct link to LB. There are two things at play here IMO, (1) The bad way that Govt have set-up privatisation of our line, the contrcats they've agreed to, and the lack of accountability to the public, (2) Lazy ungrateful railway staff or unions, propa 1st world wankers. ETA: the last word rhymes with 'Tankers', BTW.
  5. "quiet neighbourly road" is stretching it a bit, especially if you mean Crystal Palace Rd. The other road it's in is a bus route, neither are hardly village green locations. You'll hear more noise when people are pissed up and in crowds, it's summer people are outside more - just when your windows are most frequently open. Probably the only thing increasing is your level of annoyance at the sounds. Please let's not see another Gowlett-esque attempt at noise abatement on a pub that people have moved to, knowing full well the pub was there (and has been for 150yrs). Houses in the countryside are a LOT cheaper than ED, the sensible option and most reasonable expectation surely is to go there and achieve peace rather than trying to convert a busy London crossroads into a scene from Little House On The Prairee.
  6. there'll be loads of hidden costs. I used to be indifferent but now I prefer no Royals. it just seems so illogical and unneccessary.
  7. We can get rid of the royals as figureheads. However, handing over palaces, castles, whatever, to anyone who has not the knowledge or resources to maintain them would be silly though, imo.
  8. cheapest climber would be ivy, which should be fine for railings. Just tear some off a tree in the woods and pot it or use rooting compound to get it going, 4 floors up will be fine as it's used to climbing higher up at the tree tops. Just nake sure you cut it back when/if it approaches brickwork or masonry or woodwork.
  9. I assumed Theresa May had started clamping down on internet sites.
  10. "I just bought a Coleman 5 for about ?75 at Costco" no way ! the one I got (sleeps 6 I think) cost like ?270 and has a huge tunnel area for hanging out, also came with big Coleman carpets to line the common areas.
  11. Cheap tents are a huge gamble when you're trying to keep yourself and your stuff safe/dry from the elements. I can't suggest cheap (or at least, as cheap as you advised) tents, but can recommend Coleman tents if you're after a 4man or thereabouts.
  12. The New York album by Lou Reed is approx. 30yrs ago. Great album, one of his best imo.
  13. Pete Shelley - Homisapien ?
  14. Perhaps the music is powered by bike / a dynamo !
  15. That's pretty low, there's actually nothing wrong with owning-up to petty misdemeanours such as that.
  16. "Someone is going to jail". I really, really hope so JL.
  17. Of course no-one will go jail. We had a fake war illegally and no-one went down for it, even though it's having severe and frequent repercussions (possibly for decades to come). No. Accountability.
  18. I saw this van on Ulverscroft Rd last weekend, it hit a car on the even-numbered side of the road, towards the Whateley Rd end, while heading South. It pulled up at the end of the road and a bloke got out, I thought to check the damaged car, but no he didn't.
  19. No argument about that but once the pedestrian has a broken femur, pointing fingers of blame doesn't really help. Is my point. This can be avoided in many cases by pedestrians not suddenly jumping onto the crossing 'just because they can'. I'm sure most drivers are always ready to stop but some make assumptions based on what they think is (not) going to happen.
  20. I think that it's bad form for pedestrians who walk alongside a zebra crossing and then suddenly start crossing without even a pause or indication that they are intending to use the crossing. I see this quite a lot. It is just unsafe and inviting trouble. Having right of way doesn't remove basic courtesy (and the safety that is commensurate with it), pedestrians showing no intention of crossing means drivers may slow down to be cautious but obviously won't stop. Even at 20mph or less, accidents can happen in this way - including the driver correctly stopping but car behind not realising the pedestrian was intending to cross and ging into back of lead car (seen this).
  21. There's gold in them thar rats.
  22. In our family it was the wishbone used to make a wish.
  23. I feel your frustration. But telling them directly over the garden fence is the only way you're gonna fix it, if that's what the OP was intended for.
  24. Cut a bruise out, like it's on a peach. Oh sooooooo wrong.
