maybe the way / method / program you're viewing the documents through has changed ? sometimes people attach Word docs (ie. with pictures insterted) to the adverts on this forum and when you open them they look like that.

Heard a few classics previously: On the tube once "Welcome aboard. We'll be travlling at a height of approximately three and a half feet at a speed of 32 miles per hour, expected arrival at destination is 3 minutes..". On train once in North London: "this train has departed late due to complete incompetence of managers and NOT driver lateness as advised when you were waiting on the platform".

Crystal Palace. Sue's timings align (for today at least) with Southwark's website information. -
Fortnightly blue bin collection not enough?
KidKruger replied to Mrs TP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Cheers e-dealer. I checked and apparently they're emptying my blue/brown bins today, I'll check shortly.. James Barber - perhaps you don't need to check for me now, IF you were going to use the same source of info ? many thanks tho. -
Are kebabs at the local kebab shops halal ? I know it won't be kosher. I'm not bothered either way, just wondering whether the lamb I'm eating had it's throat slit while someone waffled stuff from a book or it juts got plain elctrocuted / a bolt in the brain.

Fortnightly blue bin collection not enough?
KidKruger replied to Mrs TP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Last week I was off work a few days sick so I heard the bin collection come by I think Thursday, my blues bin had been brimming a few days and I'd started to wonder how frequently they're meant to come and empty it. After they'd passed by I got out of bed and popped out front to have a look. Bins had all been moved. Green bin was half-full as before, blue bin was completely full as before, brown bin was empty as before. So the bins had been moved, presumably by a bin man (I could see the wagon moveing 30 yards up the road). I decided to go ask the garbage guys which bins they're meant to be emptying, I could see all greens and blues being loaded on to the wagon ahead. As I got close to wagon I checked a couple of blue bins in folks' front yards and they were full so I thought well maybe the blues I'd seen being emptied were actually greens and it was just the sunlight and my sleepy state that confused me. Leter I found a couple of my neighbours HAD had their blues emptied but only where they were half or less full (it was not a full quantitative survey, but that seemed to be the pattern..). Could it be they knew they had no room for loads of full bins for recycling and were hoping to please MORE customers by emptying less than full bins ? I guess I will have to empty my blue bin into bin liners and carry it up to sainsbury's recycling. -
Yes I agree, however 'world class' depends on who exactly is around to reign the HW divn. After the Klitschkos are gone I don't see any obvious HW kings, so Helenius, Povetkin, Fury may well be the new world class, albeit a pale impression of earlier eras !

It looks like Bazza has left the train company he worked with. He was kind enough to PM me to advise. FYI.

To the man who just parked on my street...

"Wouldn't it be awful if he was to return to his car tonight and find a couple of flat tyres..." Not cool, he'll immediately think it's Otto who spoke to him earlier - regardless of whodunnit really !! -
Hi Barry Are you still around and able to provide advice ? There's a seperate thread discussing the perpetual irregularity of the service between ED and LB (obviously stations further out than ED are affected too but our angle us our immediate service). It's called: "No trains East Dulwich to London 12-13/11/11 ". We find it increasingly difficult to understand how for several years the service has been withdrawn during weekends, not every weekend but so often as to render confidence in the service very low. Do you know where and how we obtain definitive and evidenced answers on why the service has suffered so appallingly ? Could you advise how we establish the prognosis for reliability of the same service going forward and whether a timetable / plan of works can be shared with us ? Regards, KK

What's the meaning of this ?! Grrrrrr.........

This all has the same tone as why do fireworks run for x number of days, a kind of it's being done to ME angle. Things just happen, people have different agendas and styles, they don't mean each other harm, most people by far are good people. So offence needs to be considered carefully before being articulated, because it may not (probably isn't) be intended. You can't just say the onus is on everyone who speaks to the make sure everyone took it the right way and dish out apologies up and down for good measure ! Most people are aloof enough to know what's reasonable behaviour. Jesus even the term PC will be non-PC at this rate !!
-
I was responding to Otta's point which was about the received PERCEPTION, not about whether apologies are made. ie. "If people have taken something a particular way, then it is true, whether intended or not." I disagree with that, unless it's qualified with "true, inside their head".

No trains East Dulwich to London 12-13/11/11
KidKruger replied to Anders's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's a reasonable conspiracy theory to me. I mean how many issues can a line from ED to LB have had in 7 years that requires the entire weekend service is removed week after week. When I have a little more time I'll start looking into this - if anyone has sources they've already exhausted, let me know, I don't want to cover same tracks (no pun intended, honest). -
So somebody who is oversensitive always perceives 'the truth' ? And all their squabbles and defensive reactions are justified. Come on, no-one believes that !!
-
Come on guys what about the Pacquiao / Marquez contest at the weekend, what do you reckon on the outcome ? It'll obviously be a quality contest but how long will it go on for ? Freddie Roach reckons it could well end in R1, to Manny. I'd like Marquez to win clearly this time, no room for doubt. However, Manny has been at the higher weight for longer and is more accustomed to it, plus he's fought far bigger men as a result, so my brain says Manny mid-late rounds.

So if one person says something and two other people take it in different ways, one of them being grossly offended by what they see as an insult and the other person seeing it as a passing comment, then it is true, whether intended or not ? How many truths can there be ? I'm not looking to argue here but a person's tendency to receive things a certain way does mean that 'the truth' may be misinterpreted at times. If everything some people thought was actually the truth, the world would be an extremely scary place for them I'm sure.

No trains East Dulwich to London 12-13/11/11
KidKruger replied to Anders's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well maybe that's something we need to mobilise on then. I've had many a weekend journey screwed by there being no service from ED to LB. -
well let's extend that train of thought shall we SJ, to those carefree parents who expose their children to the risks of living in a house when they know very well that the roof potentially could collapse and injure their child ? I see your logic there.

I think Marie81 was asking obvious questions and her tone was not rude. She was asking whether both parents drink when caring for a child or whether only one parent does. Her conclusion was that if both parents are drinking then there is an increased risk to the welfare of the child. Chiefly in the situation where an emergency arises (was what I took from her comment). This is obvious fact, not an attack. Just because she pointed it out doesn't make it an attack. Obviously it may seem rude if the reader has a stake in the subject at hand, or feels a need to justify / protect their stance, and let's face it, perceiving that one could be construed as having impaired judgement in respect of what's best for one's child will make some parents defensive. As opposed to inclined to consider their motives. No-one is saying parents are p!ss-heads, but it's obvious that alcohol impairs judgement even after very little to drink. Which is why the drink-driving laws were invented, remember ! It's interesting to me how not one parent has said "yeah you now what I never looked at it like that, what if an accident did occur and we needed to get to hospital or drive - we'd be compromised". Which means you know it all already. Why can't one parent concede that exposing a child to public house where alcohol is consumed may not be the best option for welfare of the CHILD ? Drinking culture in this country accommodates this behaviour, but that doesn't mean it's best for the child. Concerns such as noise made by kids or incovenience of a pram in a thoroughfare are comparatively irrelevant.

Posted by: helena handbasket Yesterday, 09:59PM " .......nothing to add since discussing parenting with someone who hasn't done it and discussing drinking with someone who doesn't really do that either is the curse of this forum" I read that as an attempt to diminish Marie81's viewpoint on account of her 'lacking credentials'. If all it takes is to knock one out and have a kid to be the knower of all things children welfare then we've a country full of experts haven't we ?
-
It's irrational to believe that because someone hasn't got experience of drinking alcohol and having kids, their views on combining alcohol environments and children are not valid. Perhaps they're MORE valid because they're less likely to be tainted by a desire for alcohol.. Marie81's view aligns very closely to mine and I am a Dad. So is my view also invalid because it aligns with Marie81's, because she is not 'one of us' ? Ridiculous. Bit of a weird world if our views are only 'allowed' if we have in-depth experience of everything we speak about !!!!

Shame to hear Joe Frazier passed away overnight, he'd been quite Ill for some time. First man to beat Ali, in their first contest 1971. The poor man remained troubled by Ali's (unreasonable) behaviour before a particular fight where in front of the media he caricatured Frazier as a gorilla and, worse, an Uncle Tom. Proper Philly legend. I wonder what'll happen to his gym now ?
