  1. Sandperson, you got me !! And so quickly.. No seriously, I am serious and mean it. Y'all look him up, but if you don't know his material well yet it may be a big ask for you to develop the sense of feeling so soonm that you want to write him a card/greeting ! But you MAY dig his (style of) music, which will be a winner. Current deal is I will interview him for an Old Time internet-based radio show I plan to set-up before Xmas. The Maiden program will carry the interview (plus my selecta from Old Time annals).
  2. Odyssey has raised a quite a pertinent point. It's descended into a bit of a joking matter admittedly. But the point has merit. This is currently an 'issue' at my workplace with several males and females noting (independently, so it's not a witch hunt) a particular individual's prediliction for coming to work with her tits out. Just not cool in an office envt.
  3. Bit of blurb first I'm afraid - If you want to cut-to-the-chase, skip to 'CHASE' heading further down. It's in ED section coz I'm asking local people if they want to join-in. In a seemingly average Sunday afternoon visit to Brick Lane 15 years ago I got a 2nd-hand cassette tape by a chap I'd not heard of previously called Doc Watson. This embellished my musical interests many fold with a style of music I'd not previoulsy been exposed to, Old Time Mountain Music. This man takes guitar to another level, let alone banjo, mandolin, mouth organ and Jew's harp, and his baritone voice. In 2007 I went to North Carolina with the purpose of finding this man to thank him personally (and on behalf of my friends), I literally asked in the streets town by town and located him. Considering I was taking 'cold-calling' to another dimension when I appeared at his doorstep, he was extrememly hospitable and invited me to a private gig in a little barn over in Tennessee a few days later. Him wife also was charming. Lately he's been ill (he's 84 now), I am going over again and will pop over to his cabin to say hi (by arrangement this time !) To see him and thank him again and also bring some small gifts and thanks from friends / colaborators. I think he last played in UK at Cambridge Folk Fest around 1969. CHASE ===== So I see an opportunity to perhaps expand that well-wishing vibe from more than just myself and the small number of folks I have already included. Sort of a big Thankyou from the other side of the pond. If you follow this man's/family's music, are sufficiently moved by his music and story/reputation and would like to draft a note, I can include it in my luggage - you may be inclined to pass him a small something also. Currently I have coleman's mustard and other sorts of UK 'goodies'. Nothing drastic, he lives a pretty basic and humble life and I think his record sales money goes to causes. Let me know if you want to write a card, pass on a record, I will collect over next month. Am heading there early Sept. Hope this does not come across too weird.
  4. AMAZING HOW UPTIGHT SOME PEOPLE ARE BEING ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO SIT DOWN FOR 5 MINS BEFORE A TRAIN ARRIVES - JEEZUZ !! I KNOW IT'S A CONVENIENCE TO DO SO BUT HARDLY CHANGES YOUR LIFE TO HAVE SOME SEATS REPLACED DOES IT !! PREGNANT / OLD / DISABLED FOLKS EXCEPTED, TO A DEGREE.
  5. 'Friday' by Joe Jackson, about letting one's hair down after spending the week waiting for Friday is a good song. there's a great YouTube clip of him doing it live at some university around 1980.
  6. jrussel if I caught you scratching my fairly expensive car and hence beat 10 barrels of crap out you, do you think that, as I drive away, I should consider myself now lowered to the ranks of one who commits common assault ? Yes.
  7. I could do that job.
  8. A huge camping and outdoor pursuits supplier. A Go-Kart track. A quitar shop. A night club with genre specials regularly. Vegetarian cafe.
  9. The correct time is Guy Fawkes night and not one other single day of the year should ANYONE be allowed to ignite the tiniest sparkler.... OR perhaps fireworks are OK as long as they don't go....... BANG !
  10. if someone looks dodgy you pull em, simples. KingKong you need to meet (and possibly even ARE) Eater 81......
  11. The ONLY annoying thing about Northerners (which I have very rarely every experienced in London or elsewhere in UK) is their consistent blatant use of IMO derogatory terms for non-whites. Paki, Nigger, Darkie. Both my parents are from Yorkshire and thankfully they don't do the same, but my extended family and everyone I meet up there through them are inexcusable in their use of such language. Weird thing is they are not saying it out of hatred - more like a habit of usage. One of my cousins dated a Pakistani chap for 2 years but still used aforementioned terminology, even when Jabba was there ! Down here they'd be lynched for that ! I wonder if the 'Huddersfield Forum' has a thread about most annoying traits of SOUTHERNERS....
  12. The Gaudi park is cool (Park Guell). The (early) Picasso museum is a treat if you wanna see what he was up to as a boy / young man. I think it's situated in those alleys a few yards East of Ramblas. Interesting little 'individual' / specialist shops in those alleys too. If you go up to the Olympic village you'll go past the Milo museum which is also a treat, he was a dude IMO, his mercury sculpture is memorable. For me Ramblas is a bit manufactured but horses for courses.
  13. you been hiding too long - bob dylan
  14. Bonaca I think perhaps you didn't attach the invite !?
  15. Well I think it's probably this (and others too) forum rather than the 'world at large' Moos. Fair point steve, my nippers have been playng 'around' the cordened off areas for months, wondering when they would get to have full use. I think it's a bit of a shame and a tease on the kids to not get in and JFDI quickly. Crap British work ethic.
  16. based on, i speculate, that we live in a society where a new facility will get abused from the moment it's made available... graffitti, vandalism and maybe even a fire will visit this nice new kids' park are you saying that if you were betting money you would bet against what beef said ? there's no 'based on' needed, it's just very likely isn't it. and I am NO Eater 81 !!
  17. Was gonna hire a boat on Saturday but when I saw the prices (would have been ?8 for two adults for 30 mins) and, even worse, the fact that there was nowhere to actually GO in the rowing boat, I canned the idea. It's know not a huge lake but if you're gonna have a row you want to be able to 'stride out' a bit with them oars. IMO they should free-up more space, the birds are clever - they can do stuff like swimming out of the way if your boat gets too close.
  18. "Resource. Do you mean person?" Resource can be people, cash/funding, space (factory space, desk space), raw materials, skills (again, implying people), time, knowledge - any input to an activity which can be consumed and therefore needs to be obtained and lined-up. So in the wider sense when running (say) projects or planning, a 'person' is one kind of resource and during conversation about that kind of 'resource' the term will be used interchangeably with the normal descriptive word. admittedly, often by folks half way through their part-time MBA. I hate: - I'm 'loving' it - 'So' going shopping tommorrow - 'Sick'. As in, "yeah I went to the festival last week, man it was sick". (which means it was great). Makes ME 'sick'..
  19. You Can't Get What You Want ('Til You Know What You Want) - Joe Jackson
  20. "He is a pretty tough guy". He may look it but if he can't take it as good as he threatens to dish it out then he ain't is he. That includes letting him watch you displace his cones if you cannot park anywhere. Have someone with you like your neighbour who's also to scared to deal with this dick, then at least you have a witness.
  21. Bob Dylan Joe Jackson Woody Guthrie Lou Reed Bob Marley (Small Axe, Duppy Conqueror, Trench Town Rock) Morrisey Ian Dury Oasis Kinks Beatles The Waltons (Dead Above The Neck, War Fever, Scrounging Song) UB40 (first album) The Manjinga 7 (esp. I Think Therefore I am) Sandy Denny Bert Jansch
  22. saw chery ghost 2-3 years ago at bush hall, was a great set, took me weeks to find out about him as there was nowt much on t'internet at time. today listenin to different versions of Omie Wise by : Bert Jansch Bob Dylan Doc & Merle Watson Doug Wallin G.
