  1. there's 'should be' and 'whats actually practical'. No one is going to police it.
  2. Basically jogger mentality on wheels.
  3. Yep cyclists are happy to let you know it?s ?their? road now, only the pavement bit is for pedestrians as far as they are concerned ! Not a sense of shared space.
  4. Au Contraire. It?s creative, inventive, and humorous.
  5. Sad news. Seemed a real success and people apparently happy with the food. Unfortunately won't be the last to leave our high street, by a long stretch. :(
  6. An old couple die in their cottage after the balloon goes up.

  8. Great theory. Very difficult in practice. Unless one can control every person in the pub, where they go, who they breathe over, how loud they become (increased residue from mouth opening) and how drunk they get before inhibitions are gone and distancing becomes a distant memory. If one can?t control that, why expose children to it ? Sounds more to me like the decision to do so would be driven by alcohol, not the interests of children. I hope I?m wrong.
  9. ship sinks on first journey
  10. Any family that would take their kids to a pub in the middle of a pandemic are wholly irresponsible IMO. Wether 'posh' families have the monopoly on that level of irresponsibility, I doubt. The pubs didn't open because it's safe, they opened because Govt has objectives which don't align with public health & safety. dontbesilly Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- i assumed it would be just posh families > ordering food and craft beer,
  11. sort of inevitable, given the price of F&C these days compared to fried chicken. current situation will only make people poorer so fried chicken may become the new national dish - if its not already ! I think there was an article in Guardian yesterday about 'fried chicken mile' at Mile End, East London, obesity and related health issues later in life (heart, diabetes).
  12. the second set of fireworks were waaaay west of Goose Green, I know because I was on GG with the hound when they started, he wouldn't walk to the roundabout end of GG (closer to fireworks). I'd guess they were over near ED hospital, Alleyns, DV, Red Post Hill, but nowhere near GG. The first set of forewords looked, as people say, towards Peckham Pye/Hindmans/Upland, we waited for them to stop before walking hound but then got caught out with the 2nd set of fireworks whilst we were on GG ! Can't win !!
  13. wow that sounds awful, so basically no resolution possible for your repeat prescription ?!
  14. Just a thought, any case being made that the traffic is a problem now, had perhaps best capture evidence on film/photos. The council will require evidence if they are even to discuss the situation with protestors, even though they themselves have no useful empirical evidence that there was a case in the first place for commissioning the works in DV which have caused the problems.
  15. Sue, it was a watch manufacturer / wholesale supplier I believe, before being vacated and subsequently demolished. I tried to get some people together as a syndicate to buy the place (kicking myself now !) but a couple of them being feet-draggers caused us to miss the boat. 16. Zelig: some boring psychobabble monologue. Only film I ever just left the cinema because of. I was pretty young so may appreciate it more nowadays to be fair.
  17. Oh I see what you mean, I was thinking 'all pubs have licences, so why would some not be allowed to open at 0600 whilst others are ?'. You mean some pubs already have the licence to do that. Yeah, I was hoping that wouldn't be the case locally, meeting loads of pissed-up fellas on my morning dog walk just ain't gonna work for me !
  18. Ha ha - sounds like something from Confucius !!! malumbu Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Rat running is something you do (ie one does) but > don't want others to do.
  19. Fair point. Having said that, Crystal Palace Rd has been like a high st the last couple of days, dunno why - perhaps there?s some roadworks somewhere on LL.
  20. Not sure what that means - unless most pubs somehow lost their license during the fabled ?lockdown? period ? diable rouge Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I read somewhere that only those pubs with an > existing licence to open at 6am will be able to do > so. 21. The place I mentioned is set-back from the river by several yards, so not too bad (I?m a weak swimmer). mikeb Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We love wild swimming but I've never heard of > people entering the Thames at Rotherhithe - how > fast flowing it is? 22. I just don?t get why pubs are allowed to open from 0600 tomorrow. People living near pubs may be suffering the fallout by 0900 !! During normal times 0600 is never allowed, so why now !!? ?But Downing Street said the later opening time for pubs was a "sensible precaution" to avoid midnight parties?. Huh ?!?
  23. Never seen any rats at high-tide, will keep an eye open tho !
  24. Rotherhithe beach is OK at high tide, there's a gate and steps next to Surrey Docks farm and you can dive in off the steps which make it easy to get out of the water too.
  25. Oh, I don't know, I'm sure I remember a few years ago a chap in one local pub was dishing out disco biscuits one Saturday night !!
