  1. ?I don't expect anybody else will want to post a thought for the day/life on this thread for fear of being immediately attacked.? Nice try Gardenman. Would have been an OK subject for a thread, but the compiler rejected your syntax. Perhaps try again on a new thread, in a while ? And maybe insert a brief preface to confirm that any thoughts / proverbs are intended earnestly (just in case dying people draw the conclusion that thoughts for the day are actually telling them their problems are just imagined). I?d ask admin to delete this thread for the shitfest it instantly became.
  2. if it's bagged it's cool, surely ? green bin of course.
  3. I mentioned Runcent above Sue, I've had box and sash windows made by them in timber a few times. From memory I think they have a fitting service available, I haven't used it as did mine myself so I cannot advise quality of fitting service. But windows are decent IMO and never had problems dealing with them on windows or other work. I don't know these days how Runcent rate pricewise or anything else in comparison to other providers.
  4. I had a quote from Bespoke a couple of years ago for my bay window (three windows) I think they wanted around ?5K which seemed mental to me ! I'm doing same this year and probably will have Runcent make wooden sash windows set with double-glazed panels. Maintaining painted wooden windows, especially at ground-level like for a bay, is one of the easier window related jobs as long as they're checked and touched-up where necessary each year (but you may not fancy that from sound of it). The draught question still stands though, if you have wooden sashes with double-glazing, however well made windows should shut pretty tightly.
  5. ?13K ??!! Shit - our kids were born at home, I wonder if I can get a rebate from the NHS ?!
  6. Why not do some research and figure out the fix yourself, probably will be quicker than looking for an economical fix plus you get to upskill a bit ! A project for 2019.
  7. Mscrawthew I hope you?ve learned your lesson (you naughty poster) for generalising when making a point on the EDF ! How DARE you. You could have said ?trains are always late? but then you would run the risk of one train being found to have arrived on time and the conclusion that you?re a deceiver. Why oh why didn?t you just come straight out and say only ?89.24937688% trains are on time in my experience? ?!
  8. The company must know which vans they had operating in the area and therefore which drivers at that time. It?s unlikely they had all their vans there or even more than one so anybody with an inclination to assist should be able to discern quite quickly which vehicle and driver were involved regardless of whether there was any damage to their.
  9. If you go to the surgery at 0730 and wait until they open at (I think) 0800 you can get same day emergency appts.

Rough Trade at Spitalfields is closest I know.
  11. "I find it hard to believe that earth can dry so hard that it can't be broken up and levelled with a bit of elbow grease." yep. basic groundwork. no 'dark art' there.
  12. Perhaps they can attach a shade to limit the light spill, or repoint it a smaller area/closer to house.
  13. I also know someone who may be able to help if you don't get luck with above, PM me if required. person I know runs Lindy Hop classes.

"..by doing that she will take away the right of UK citizens to freely travel, work, study and live/retire in the EU." Does this seriously mean that the 1000s of UK retirees out in Spain and elsewhere in the EU will lose the right to be there (and as a result will have to go somewhere else) ? Or does it mean they'll be OK, but new retirees from UK can't join them ?
  15. Neglect of terrapins and turtles (and tortoises), basically all chelonians, can cause issues with their shell which can become warped and disfigured. They often need additional heat (heatlamp, heatmap), a certain kind of lamp to supply (I think) UV for the shells, plus calcium in diet for obvious reasons, plus other specific dietary needs. Turtles I had previously pooed in the water, which therefore had to be changed a couple of times a day. They can take quite some care overall.

"I notice in her speech May mentioned the 3rd option for the first time, remain in the EU..." yeah, I noticed that too - it stood out because it's new ! Ray of HOPE.
  18. surely chunks. to work on the entire stretch all in one go, with the workforce and organisation that would require, seems unlikely.
  19. At the least, there needs to be feedback so if this was an isolated (as opposed to systemic) occurrence it can be acknowledged and prevented from repeating, or that the process/approach can be fixed if it has an actual fault.
  20. To be fair to you (and before the name-calling starts) I have been mugged (attempted) around here previously and also there have been a couple of instances of blatant intimidation for no reason I could see, all by the 'community' (my quotes for some reason as seems necessary) which you identify. But personally I don't see that as necessarily representative of anything, certainly not a reason to start a statement around correlation.
  21. which smart arse, there's a few posting on here.
  22. *Nips over to corner shop for some popcorn and a couple of San Miguels*
  23. How are things down in Penge ? Passed through there last week, looks alright.
  24. 12 or 197 to Peckham, then train to Victoria. then leg it to GP.
  25. Give it a rest Cella. Some people get busy. Why would he call possibly dozens of people to explain he's busy, field the next question 'when WILL you be free ?', and then listen to the commensurate moaning about the predicament the punter is in because they didn't plan their works and get their tradesman booked well in front ?! Just because you didn't get a call back stop trying to diss a bloke who's obviously doing a very good job. Pick-up yellow pages and sort yourself a plumber instead of stalking credits for a plumber who's busy with work !
