I'll vote Tory too. Have never done it before and could not do so nationally but locally, anything to shake the Tower of Sauron (aka Tooley Street).
-
Anyone who promises to remove the LTN - harmful and unjust scheme - has my and my neighbours vote.
-
As long as they promise to remove the LTN I do not care. northernmonkey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Just don?t kid yourself you?re not voting Tory!

"the idea of presenting Tory candidate or trying to position them as ?centrist? just because they?ll campaign to remove LTNs is a dangerous and slippery slope." For me and my neighbours removing LTN means LESS air pollution and LESS noise. What's not to like?
-
"What policies do they have that show they?re ?centrist? @heartblock? " - good question, as majority of what Labour does these days seem to be rather extreme e.g. LTN: screw those less off & living on the main roads - we have a new idee fixe now!

The only thing that LTN has achieved so far is pushing more traffic onto the already busy an polluted roads; people living, walking or waitting at bus stops there have slready been exposed to illegal levels of air pollution and noise. Thanks to LTN this is now even worst. Zaardvark Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As a walker and a cyclist - it is not true that > 90% of cyclists skip lights. I send multiple emails regarding LTN to Cllr Rose and so have my neighbours - we have received zero responses.

One Dulwich update: Why is Dulwich Village junction still closed? The experimental traffic order that closed the Dulwich Village/Calton Avenue/Court Lane junction ran out on 29 December 2021. On 24 December 2021, because the deadline for calling in the final decision to make the decision permanent was 4 January 2022, the Council brought in a further 21-day Emergency Traffic Order (a Temporary Traffic Order). This ran out on 19 January 2022. As far as anyone can see, the permanent traffic order that follows the Council?s decision has not yet been issued (Cllr Richard Leeming tweeted on 11 January that the decision was ?implementable?). We can?t find any evidence that a further temporary traffic order has been issued either. So on what basis is the junction still closed? If anyone has any information, please get in touch. ?Catastrophic, harmful and savage? Good coverage of Age Speaks? protest against the Dulwich LTNs in Southwark News here. Decision-maker Cllr Catherine Rose says, disingenuously, ?we can?t make changes based on unspecified claims. We need residents to contact us with specific cases of where this has had a negative impact.? It seems that a public consultation, thousands of emails, public meetings and a deputation to cabinet by Age Speaks on 7 December 2021, which included detailed case studies (from 53:30), just weren?t quite specific enough?. Please email catherine.rose@southwark.gov.uk with your response to her comments. A representative from the East Dulwich Grove residents? group also spoke to Nick Ferrari on LBC on 20 January (from 1hr 20).

Well said Sand12. I don't drive or cycle but walk a lot. From my experience, I can say that 90% of cyclists do not acknowledge the fact that the traffic lights apply to them. Pavements are for pedestrians and should remain so.
-
Very well said Maggie - LTN is a disastrous scheme. There are other callers too, from Islington and Palmers Green, saying the same and how data is being manipulated by the councils across London to show the perceived support for LTN.

South Circular closed just after the Grove
ab29 replied to ruffers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I also hope they will be voted out. The closed roads must be reopened. Things like burst pipes or car accidents happen and every time those living on the roads where displaced by the LTN traffic goes are hit double. -
I am all for the road tax and I hope it will be double on South Circular. At least this is something that can potentially help everyone, unlike vanity projects like LTN which harms people.

London mayor plans pay-per-mile charge for drivers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-60030127

I agree Rockets, the main roads are treated like dumping grounds for the traffic displaced by LTN and in some cases ULEZ. And it is criminal.
-
"An example one of a possibly unintended consequences of LTN road closures has been the displacement of traffic onto main roads. London doesn?t have urban motorways ? that battle was won in the 1970s, when the infamous London Box scheme was thrown out by the voters (the only part of it constructed is the unloved Westway and the grim approaches to the Blackwall Tunnel). Instead, main roads, including the arterials controlled by Transport for London, are also residential roads, which were already dealing with traffic levels well beyond their capacities before Covid and LTNs. The GLA (step forward the Mayor?s cycling and walking commissioner, Will Norman) have gone to great lengths to deny that main roads can be residential, then moved on to saying that not many people live on them. Yet according to the GLA?s own figures upwards of 10% of Londoners live on these main roads compared to the 4% who live on roads benefitting from an LTN." I live on LL. I wonder if anyone from the pro LTN camp is capable of reading with understanding? This scheme truly is harming people.

"I'm not only dodging scooters, dog mess and now I'm dodging bikes at speed whilst walking (...)" Totally agree. Add joggers, scooters, electric scooters, skateboards, electric skateboards, rollerblades etc. to the mix. The pavements are - and should be - predominantly for pedestrians.

Has the council mucked up with its Xmas tree collection?
ab29 replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I truly fail to understand how people can throw their Xmas trees on a pavement, just like this (unless they know the collection date). There may be someone with a pram or in a wheelchair or with walking sticks passing by? Pavements are not exactly the size / width of motorway. -
request to avoid log fires today as pollution level high

They should be banned. -
"Most traffic is caused simply by there being too great a demand for limited street space, meaning the only long-term solution can be to significantly reduce car use in favour of greener means of travel." The question has to be this: what mode of transport is fairly environmentally friendly and can be used by/can transport large number of people quickly? The answer is public transport, such as trains and buses. And this should be the main focus. Plenty of space has been taken away from buses (and pedestrians) to accommodate cycle lanes, even though there will always be a very small group of people using them. The lanes are empty most of the time, especially since Covid and the shift in the working patterns which I think is going to stay. This pandering by politicians and councillors to those shouting loudest about the 'green schemes', often being a smoke screen covering the self interest is infuriating. No planning, no common sense, no vision whatsoever. And for the record: I don't drive, have never owned a car, walk a lot and I'm against the LTN.
-
The buses have been delayed greatly ever since the TfL has introduced 'waiting to regulate' the service - infuriating and complete waste of time. The bus frequency has also been reduced - this was done before Covid e.g. 176 and 35. The buses get stuck in the traffic which has been worst since LTN e.g. on LL. Direct trains from Forest Hill to London Bridge have now been suspended indefinitely.
-
Am going to vote Tories - I really am this angry. Have never done it before and could not do so on the national level but locally, anything to shake the Sauron's Tower (=Southwark Council).
-
I think LTN makes majority of people worst off - displaced traffic, slowing down the buses, waiting at the bus stops on more polluted roads, walking down these more polluted roads etc. And, in the end, if all you do is pushing traffic from one road to another, how is this better for overall air pollution? It;s not. And this affects everyone.
-
Well, how can a road closure not affect someone out there?
-
I do object the very idea of LTN as it has made my life much worst - more traffic, more pollution, more noise in front of my home. Unless the whole London can be closed off to traffic or all cars are replaced with electric ones the so-called LTN is only harming people (with the very few exceptions). Saying this as someone who does not drive, has never owned a car and walks pretty much everywhere.
