how do you carry your stuff when you are out exercising?
Convex replied to Convex's topic in The Family Room Discussion
thanks everyone, didn't think of the bra option! -
just that really... i want to start running again but need to carry phone, keys and asthma inhaler. want to be able to do floor exercises / stretching on my tummy and back without having to unload the pockets on the back of my leggings & tops and these don't fit the inhaler anyway. ended up just carrying it the other day but it wasn't great. ideas / tips gratefully received...

Pram / buggy recommendations for third floor flat (no lift)
Convex replied to sdow687's topic in The Family Room Discussion
third recommendation here on the yoyo. if you want something more substantial then the bugaboo bee is good, i could carry it up and downstairs on my own with baby asleep in it and a full basket. -
Nursery recommendations in ED please ! ! ! !
Convex replied to CLAU's topic in The Family Room Discussion
ah in that case you can get a list of nurseries from the southwark website. -
Hey, if you have had sore wrists from a buggy before then i would recommend you get a pram with air tyres. i had the same thing and had to have physio, it was pretty crap, not to mention very painful. although i do have a yoyo now which has hard tyres and i don't tend to have issues - i don't push a buggy all day these days though! (and i also have a phil and teds for carrying 2 kids)- so maybe good suspension is the key. the advantage of the bugaboo prams in my opinion is their longevity - they work great with buggy boards due to their extendable handles so you might avoid needing a double if you go for 2 kids (and your 1st kid likes the buggy board - can't predict that though!) you could also look at baby jogger prams - the city select is comparable to the chameleon in a lot of ways. it looks a bit odd as a single but it has a huge basket and i loved it. my opinion on prams is to plan to have 1 big/main pram and also a smaller one for buses / car journeys. i know some people do well with just one, or switch to a maclaren or equivalent after 6 months to a year. i also recommend buying secondhand, though you do need to inspect carefully and you then don't have a warranty - so its not for everyone.

Ikea Kitchens - has anyone got any experience?
Convex replied to cmacnew's topic in The Family Room Discussion
we have installed 2 ikea kitchens and have been happy. but we haven't done delivery - we went and got it - and had to make several trips. but worth it to save the money in our opinion. and installed it ourselves and got the worktop from an independent company. edited to say we got a few more interesting bits and pieces e.g. a rolling corner cupboard. but they have brought out loads of new designs since then so not sure its necessary! -
I was unsure what was due to accent and what was down to his lack of ability to pronounce the sound in question. i thought this came across quite clearly! but then i too am foreign!

hey, did you visit any schools? i only ask as i found it very reassuring - the reception classes were very similar to nursery! one reception teacher, when asked about how kids cope, said it wasn't uncommon for kids to take impromptu naps and the schools i visited all seemed very accepting of how young kids are when they start and having appropriate expectations. in any case we are starting at the same time and I'm mostly worried about how on earth i am going to manage drop off and pick up!!!!

edited! just did a search and couldn't find previous threads. i have had 2 home births, appreciate they are not for everyone but they were the right call for me. didn't have the perfect 'tea and toast in my own bed' experience so have a fairly balanced view of home births (i think) do PM me with any questions, or if you want my birth story, etc... but first port of call if your midwife, and to try and get in with a community midwife team - i know the system has changed but i was with the Lanes midwives.

we got one from camping world online and its been good. but if its your first trip then consider taking a duvet - less outlay and super warm!

Le Nid - nursery on East Dulwich Grove
Convex replied to Amytkwy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
i don't know any parents who blindly and merrily drop off with no care - we all love our kids and do the best we can. anyway main reason I'm posting is that i don't want the OP to get spooked that nurseries are in some way bad - our 2nd nursery is lovely not to mention run very well and i am completely sure they are in good hands. id give short shrift to anyone who implied i was in some way uncaring about the care they received. only the parent can judge whether a nursery is right for their family. and there is no mileage in judging other parents when you only ever see a tiny snapshot of their day. -
do you mean like the ikea kallax ones? we use trunki boxes which i like, but find that having to lift things down from shelves is a pain.

Chickenpox - if vaccinated can you be infectious?
Convex replied to devsdev's topic in The Family Room Discussion
and i think 1 dose can reduce the severity of the symptoms if you do get it. -
PS a travel bag means its unlikely it will get trashed.

Hi, where are you going - how buggy friendly is it? we've travelled with a phil and teds and it was fine. we didn't use it in the airport though, found slings best. (don't have twins though - 2 of different ages)
-
ah sorry you already know all that then! i reckon just go and see how you get on. maybe get them some age relevant books before they go so they recognise stuff.

Travelling in Vietnam with kids (nearly 3 and 5)
Convex replied to pilsbury's topic in The Family Room Discussion
we find the boots natural repellant for kids - its bright yellow - really good. think its called 'Repel' - note these are NOT clinically proven and don't work for everyone. we found it to be effective though. also i take citronella body spray from neals yard, never hurts to double up. obvs do take deet as well, better to have too much than too little. it can sting a little though! and cover up, i wore jeans most evenings. (can you tell i hate getting bitten.) 2 rucksacks will be ok if you pack carefully, we normally have 2 suitcases plus hand luggage, do you have any stuff sacks? they are very good for reducing space taken up by clothes. i would seriously recommend you consider taking at least 1 pram - we recently travelled without one and it would have been good to have in the evenings. -
yes depends on the age of the kids, but my main thing would be realistic about what you can do in a day and tailor it to what your kids can handle. be prepared to cut things short and change plans e.g. if they are grumpy then a happy day at the park is better than an unsuccessful visit to the coliseum! its more a family holiday that happens to be in rome than a cultural trip to rome. if that makes sense.

vw do factory built campers now and they are worth looking at as they use every inch of available space. its called the vw california. they have been doing them for a few years so you can get some good deals second hand. but there are also some great conversions out there. my top tip would be to rent one (or a few different ones) to get an idea of what layout works for you. at the least id recommend going to see campervantastic who have lots of different vans (both for sale and for rent) and are keen campers too. and go for the most modern, reliable one you can afford! we did the whole vintage camper thing and we much prefer our modern one though its obviously not as pretty!
