  1. Came across this wonderful British History website which contains some wonderful first hand accounts of the local area between 100 and 500 years ago. If anyone remembers the Heaton Arms pub standing on the edge of what is now the new co-operative building at Peckham Rye/Rye Lane, on here is a wonderful painting of "Heaton's Folly" which stood on this site a few centuries ago. Have fun reading. British History Online - Peckham and Dulwich http://www.british-history.ac.uk/image.aspx?compid=45282&filename=fig102.gif&pubid=344
  2. My parents came round for a home cooked meal as my father was too ill to go to a restaurant in the end, so spent this morning running around Sainsburys buying bits. I'm glad your experience at the Bishop was good... btw how was the food? Louisa.
  3. All the above and more are about to move to ED as a new shopping centre named after me will be built on the site formerly known as Goose Green and will contain underground parking and a huge Catford shopping centre style cat version of me right on the top of it. Oh yes indeed. Louisa.
  4. Pizza is a bit of bread with some tomato sauce melted cheese and some other fillings on top, in other words cheese on toast with a few other bits on. Anyone who spends 15 to 20 quid on a take out pizza must be a nutter in my opinion, you can buy a frozen pizza or indeed make it yourself at home from scratch for less than a fiver so please dont push the line "pizza like everything else in ED needs to be at least 20 quid before you can satisfy your tastebuds", what a load of b*llocks! It's a PIZZA, in Italy these things are eaten as a snack like we eat sausage rolls (;-)) The Gowlett used to be a bloody decent pub and now they sell pizza? WTF? Louisa.
  5. lenk I think you will find the Irish shop has been around for nearly 15 years now and is still going pretty strong, so as a betting girl I would suggest that the Irish shop is more likely to stay around as an established business than one that has only just opened up. Louisa.
  6. It's a pub for christs sake, if you want a bloody pizza go to the supermarket, jesus christ. Louisa.
  7. I go into the Irish shop quite a bit to get my fix of galtee processed chesse and some Tayto crisps, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I doubt the Polish shop will see the year out! Louisa.
  8. No. Louisa.
  9. dum de dum... hasnt it been a lovely day? Louisa.
  10. I tend to walk locally or I drive. I dont like the idea of dirty smelly station platforms and crowded buses full of children. Louisa.
  11. Well done community spirited person a big thankyou even though I dont use the dear old peasant wagons myself, thanks on behalf of those who do. Louisa.
  12. *Bob* you may find this highly amusing, but much paranormal activity has remained unexplained even by experts over the years. I guarantee if you went to one of these events you would come away with a different opinion. Some people remain so closed minded to the idea that there may be some sort of after life, the EDPS did all sorts of things that even the sceptical folk found difficult to explain. Louisa.
  13. *Bob* organised the whole event. During the daytime it isnt as frightening, but i'm sure psychic stuff goes on during the daytime too, although many experts on this subject matter believe that between 1 and 3am is the time at which most paranormal activity takes place. I dare any of you to pitch a tent up there and no experience something strange. Louisa.
  14. Slightly off topic here but Nunhead cemetary has been the scene for many strange events over the years. I used to go along to some of the psychic investigations here and without doubt it is one of the scariest places after dark any time of the year. I always remember back in the 1970's when a group of dog walkers saw what appeared to be a lady in victorian dress walking with a lantern and as the group approached her she disappeared. On another ocassion a man reported seeing and hearing the sound of a group if young children giggling in one of the wooded areas of the cemetary and found no trace of anyone (this is in the wee hours of the morning btw). Always been a strange place, and sights and sounds are constantly reported without any conclousion ever being reached on what they are. May have been a fox, but judging by the history of this place, it could have been anything! Louisa.
  15. CPT is great, I really should start going again. Louisa.
  16. Bloody kids, i'd not have been quite so polite, I would have refused to serve you and your kids and probably told you to leave as soon as you came through the doors woodie! Be grateful the poor lady put up with you and yours for as long as she did! Anyway, on topic, i've always loved this place, it's been around for years now and the good old fashioned food is really heart warming, especially in winter. Louisa.
  17. citizenED do you work in customer service by any chance? ;-) Louisa.
  18. Anyway have we reached a conclusion about how dull and pointless Mr's R is yet? In any other high street outside London such a store would have been far from recession proof and would now probably be a Paddy Power or William Hill. Those poor ignorant folk who have to be landed with gambling on their doorstep, how must they cope? Louisa.
  19. I heard that EDD pay their staff with sausage rolls (it's true, those darn sausage rolls are that superior to any other that they are worth their weight in gold) Louisa.

A lot of the suburban Mcdonalds have closed because they have relocated to retail parks where they have more space and get a big chunk of people who prefer the convenience of the drive thru culture. Just as many, in fact possibly more, have opened as opposed to close since 2006. Louisa.
  21. The square around the Cathedral in Exeter is really nice though on a warm summer day. Some lovely restaurants and tea rooms around there. I was last in Torquay in 2007 and I found it to be really busy to be honest, I know that the collapse of Woolies did damage the high street recently though, unlike in a London street the death of Woolies meant that many local places went under too. Shame really. Louisa.
  22. Cassius, ED and a predominantly rural location in south Devon surely cannot be compared in terms of shopping? I mean Exeter for example is considered one of the biggest clone town shopping centres in the whole of the UK and yet the environment is just really amazing and buzzing - it isnt always about whether the shops are independent or chain, the state of the town centre and the people who frequent it make the big difference, along with decisions made by local councils and government. I agree though that I would rather see the shops in business than out of it. Louisa.

Maybe you dont quite read my posts properly, I am mocking those who like to mock the working class, and yes being poor and lack of education are a major reason for some people calling certain people in society 'CHAVS' - if anyone is lacking clairty in an argument it is you! > Perhaps I am one that 'should know better' when it > comes to Louisa and her half-baked opinions, but > today is a slow day at work and I felt the need to > respond. You are supposedly one of those who knows better and who previously shopped at Mr's Robinson et al, yes you must be very bored at work and thanks for supporting my argument and those of others who say that people like you rise to the challenge just because you can. You are about as working class as one of the Queen's corgi dogs. (BTW if it's half baked your after pop into one of the many overpriced bakers along the lane, i'm sure they can rip you off good and proper) ;-) > On topic - I've had some pretty awful service from > Mrs Robinson (the houseware shop - never been in > the boutique) and told them at the time, to which > they were fairly indifferent. 24. SteveT as much as I found that documovie interesting it was not a public information film, it was a carefully crafted and heavily edited thing to make McDonalds look stupid. Everyone knows too much of anything is bad for you, drink a 2 litre bottle of vodka every day for 4 weeks and i'm sure blood results would kind of make your liver out to be pickled. Louisa.
