I was stopped by them at the bottom of Maxted Road on Wednesday evening and I took part in the survey but to me it seemed pointless. I was driving to Kingston, I didnt know the postcode of the address I was going to and I was not prepared to give my full home postcode out either. So he had East Dulwich and Kingston out of me. Why was a fully uniformed copper stopping traffic for this nonsense when he could have been dealing with real crime down in Peckham somewhere? What a waste of our resources. Louisa.

Vauxhall Embankment Earls Court is without doubt the cheapest and fastest route, i've tried many times to figure out an alternative route and in all honesty it isnt any quicker and usually ends in congestion. My advice is take the obvious route and be a little savvy about the time of day you decide to drive and check travel info before doing so. Louisa.

Bellenden Road - just picking up or closing down?
Louisa replied to northlondoner's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Bellenden is going the way of all areas currently. I dont think it is about to crash, but equally I cant see Bang and Olufsen opening up a new store any time soon. Louisa. -
So is Somerfield's turning into Sainsbury's?
Louisa replied to James's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Update: Spoke to a man who rang me directly today from a company who deal with all Somerfield enquiries. He informed me that the main store at the bottom of LL would remain and not be closing and that the additional store near The Plough would be an extra store. Apparantly it is something to do with sunday trading hours, and he informed me that the Co-operative buyout/merger was only completed a week ago and that both stores would in time be reverting to a Co-operative store format. I hope this clears up any further speculation. Louisa. -
I was driving down through Nunhead on my way to Lewisham this morning and the traffic was unusually bad heading down the main road. As I went past the bakers I noticed a queue of traffic behind a parked bus and a man laying in the road. Does anyone know what exactly happened here and if the chap in question is ok? I drove back through on my way home and police and other emergency vehicles were still in the area. Louisa.

Dulwich in Adelaide is quite parched during the summer months, I went there on my travels and found it extremely hot but a fairly pleasant place to be. Some of the people in one of the local pubs out there told me of a museum in the town which has a section about Dulwich, Surrey (our Dulwich) and how the first settlers came from that part of England hence the adoption of the name. Apparantly some of the people still claim to be direct descendents of this early Dulwich explorers. I hope they dont have arguments over class and gentrification like we all do. Louisa.

Well as I have pointed out numerous times on this forum, despite the snobby attitude towards Iceland most of their food is is of a high standard and priced decently, the staff are always on the ball and helpful, and for those of you who believe in all that genetic modification and organic crap, they sell a large number of products which cater for this market. I know how much it pains many of you people to walk in their though and be seen standing in line next to working class people and penny savers! Louisa.

So is Somerfield's turning into Sainsbury's?
Louisa replied to James's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Lidl offer some good specific items you cant get elsewhere, but I agree that they are very hit and miss and the store layout is dire. There is no way on earth anyone could do an entire weeks shop in one of those places, I seriously challenge anyone on here to try and do so, most of the cleaning products are just watered down muck. OK I will sacrifice Woolies in Peckham if it means they wont try and take on Somerfield. But I would still rather see a Co-op or M&S at Somerfield site and Next or M&S at Woolies in Peckham. Louisa. -
Non of this surprises me to be fair, since Somerfield took over from Gateway and the staff changed, that place has been a nightmare in every sense of the word. However, having said that I do know and talk to some of the people who work there and in all fairness they are really friendly. Louisa.

So is Somerfield's turning into Sainsbury's?
Louisa replied to James's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If Lidl move into Somerfield site I am leaving ED on the first train or bus to Bromley. If Lidl open yet another store in Peckham, as disapointing as it would be, and a further nail in the Rye Lane coffin, I wouldnt be surprised in all honesty. Louisa. -

Mick Mac thanks for warning him off - I am a lipstick wearing pitbull make no mistake. BTW James, sorry for being so ridiculously rude, but please attempt to read other threads about this subject before jumping the gun! Louisa. -
:)) You wouldnt get that sort of attitude from an M&S Simply Food member of staff! Louisa.

Walking in South East London
Louisa replied to Lost Yorkshire Man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I highly recommend a walking trip around the village of Downe in the London Borough of Bromley. Lot of cycle paths and rights of way across unspoilt rolling countryside, two wonderful pubs in the village which is very picturesque, and of course the wonderful Downe House (home of Charles Darwin) is on the outskirts of the village and is open from February through to sometime after summer which is a wonderful trip back in history and they do tea and cakes which are great too. Good transport links into Bromley or Orpington via bus, which is of course just a train ride away from Peckham Rye Station. Louisa. -

God why do we keep going around in circles with this one? Waitrose, M&S and Sainsbury's have already been contacted regarding this site and non of them have ever had any plans to locate a store there! Get over it! Louisa. -
Dont be ridiculous, why would Sainsburys have a small local store that close to a big supermarket, especially in difficult economic times it wouldnt make sense! Louisa.

david_carnell, that is extremely helpful, she will be glad to know i've researched it for her as it is a place I had never been to before and I knew little or nothing of it. Apparantly Worcester Park has an M&S? Not sure how true that is. The property we viewed was on Salisbury Avenue, and although I was not keen she loved it and is persuing it so good luck to her. I saw a park which did look rather nice on route, and I get what you mean about the whole 1930's everything is the same architecture. Louisa.

Oh it's not for me! My sister is moving house and wants to live in Cheam because it's easy access to her work in Guildford, but she doesnt want to move too far out of London. I drove via Streatham, Mitcham, Sutton (ish) to get there and only saw houses and no shops. Wondered if anyone had info on shops, public transport etc Louisa.

I went to view a house with my sister today, and I just did a random search on the area and that picture of the high street (?) emerged. Anyone know much about the place? Louisa.

Cant think of anything else it could be apart from Next. Unless it's going to become an Ann Summers Hypermarket? *wake up Louisa, it is just a dream!* :-$ Louisa.

Tina's hairdresser's shop looking like it's closed
Louisa replied to Nero's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nero you must be psychic. Although I had not been in their for a while because I had an argument with one of the girls a few years back. I suggest this place should become a Mamas & Papas boutique store, I can see the happy yummies overspending on hubbys plastic as I type. Louisa. -
Somerfield will not be opening a second store, they will be re-locating their present store to the other end of LL. Sainsbury, Tesco, Costcutter and Londis already have a big enough presence in the area so it wont be any of those, and Waitrose and M&S have already confirmed they will not be opening a branch in ED. Maybe it is going to become a Next? LOL Louisa.

Despite what I often say on this forum, and it is between you and I louisiana, I am actually quite fond of ED and Peckham, I just get frustrated with the way the area has changed sometimes, but this is only because I care deeply for the place and always will do, wherever I live or indeed choose to shop! Louisa.
