Anyone experienced a problem with the shop Mrs Robinson? (Lounged)
Louisa replied to antmcg123's topic in The Lounge
Why is it I can go into a shop like Iceland or Farmer's and get good reliable customer service and often have a laugh with the members of staff, and yet SOME people on here talk about the likes of Mr's Robinson and William Rose as though they are rude and arrogant. I've never seen a thread about any of the mentioned stores I visit mentioned in this way. Rude arrogant behaviour is not the soul trait of the middle classes, but it is certainly more prevalent in a subconscious way, even though many people from said class like to mock the working/underclass for their lack of education by refering to them as 'CHAVS'. Louisa. -
What I find amusing about the whole 'not in our high street mentality' is that the likes of the boutiques and organic this that and the other shops would all be made to look sick if a Mcdonalds or BK or such like opened up on the lane. The facts remain simple, loads of people complain about Maccas and yet still go in there once in a while for a sneaky cheesburger, and if you think thats a load of unfounded rubbish then explain why every single Mcdonalds you ever go past on a high street is packed at whatever time of the day you go past? Guess what, Iceland is still on LL because it does have a huge customer base, nowhere stays open unless it is popular. Louisa.

Thanks Keef for your support on this one. I dont make this stuff up you know, I know an awful lot of people who think the same about the whole snobbery which has kind of saturated the local area. As I have said in the past, the middle classes always have the louder more articulate voices and so always jump on anyone who dares question their superiority. Oh well, I better shut up before I get rotten organic eggs thrown at my front door again. Louisa. -
What does fox poo and the former GG fence have in common? (not a joke btw was just wondering) Anyway, foxes crap on my doorstep quite a bit and I just hose it down. Louisa.

Jesus christ, if M&S aint interested in a small suburban genetrified bit of grotty SE London, I cant see a home counties super snob shop being up for it can you? Louisa.

Lizzie as much as I loved Australia for a holiday I agree with the whole suburban feel. Aside from Sydney which is a fabulous place to be during the summer, much of the country I found quite boring a lot of the time. Empty streets where tumbleweed is the only thing moving, and this just seems to go on for miles and miles. I wouldnt say the place was bland, but it lacked a certain amount of personality that many places have. This isnt a blanket comment btw before anyone jumps on me, just an observation as I have been to a lot of places downunder and found them all much of a muchness. But Woolies do sell really cheap king prawns which I thought was just amazing, god I want some now! Louisa. -
I think everyone needs to chillax a bit. Maccas isnt anyones first choice for a good old fashioned nosh, but I dont subscribe to that totally unfounded snobby attitude of 'Mcdonalds are evil corporate giants trying to make kids addicted to salt and fat by bribing them with toys' line which to be fair is just boring now, get over it I say. If I want a quick snack I go in and grab a meal deal, it's better value for money than going to GBK for a super dooper 10 times more expensive version of the same thing, at the end of the day it's just a bloody burger! Louisa.

I found customer service and food in Australia absolutely awful in most places I went (with the exception of the beef and seafood) and the weather was not exactly anything to write home about when I went, but that may have just been the time of year. However some of the countryside is spectacular and the beach lifestyle is amazing. But as I have pointed out previously on here, BBQ meat is not my idea of cooking a nice steak, I hate meat thats been charred and overcooked (unless its Greggs ;-)) Louisa. -
Costa Coffee. But more to the point, I want to know what the shop on the corner of the Gardens (former electrical store) is going to become! Louisa.

Everyone munches on a cheeseburger from Maccas once in a while, I dont see the problem myself, but I would prefer something a little more sit down and eat with a knife and fork. I wouldnt say no to a decent carvery in the area but I can already see the look of horror on some peoples faces. F*** it, bring Maccas in and we can then silence the Waitrose and M&S speculation once and for all! Louisa.

Hardly a loss is it? Since Mr Yilmaz departed from here the place has not been upto scratch in my opinion. Getting rid of the take away as it was could possibly have been the biggest mistake ever made, although Kebab & Wine have certainly picked up on the passing trade now. Louisa.

I see the ex Claphamite EDD sausage roll munching organic brigade are out in full force to defend the new look ED ;-) Seriously though, Greggs are fine if your on a budget and maybe some of you should realise that ED isnt an exclusive joint for the likes of the above who think spending over 4 quid on a loaf of bread is acceptable. Some people do actually have a budget. Anyway, I love sausage rolls! Louisa.

Oh for christs sake! Customer service isnt about when you say 'oi' to the shop assistant, it is about when the shop assistant pays some attention to you and does their job properly. I've been in pound shops where the staff are more attentive than in places like this! Louisa. -
Moos, no offence but that was possibly the most amusing and pathetic response I have ever had on here. I am giggling as I type hehe. No in all seriousness, I do not know what each individual buys, but it is clear from the mix of shops along LL that certain folk go in some places because they like to waste/spend lots of money and wouldnt be seen dead in Iceland et al, and many others wouldnt be able to afford to shop in anywhere other than say Iceland et al. If you cannot see these differences you are obviously very misguided! Louisa.
-
I am just wrong because I cant tell the difference? How does that figure? What tastes good for one person may taste like crap for another, going with your argument, anyone and everyone who eats both a Greggs sausage roll and a EDD one should immediately say that the EDD one is better just because it is and thats that! I dont think so sorry. It isnt just about the price, or what goes into the ingredients. I have used crap ingredients to make good quality homemade pies amongst other things and they turn out great for me, but maybe if I had gone into the EDD to buy my bits and bobs one of those pies would have just naturally come out the oven better quality than any previous attempt. What a ludicrous statement! I have bought sausage rolls at Ayres and I used to buy them at Kennedys, it isnt about local versus chain, it is a class related thing, it is just plain and simple snobbery on behalf of a huge number of ED residents. Louisa.
-
Sorry Sean but that entire last post is why there is such polarised views in this country over class issues. You have just blatantly berated anyone who buys from Greggs et al and suggested that buying from any such baker would make you stupid because you cannot tell the difference between a sausage roll made there and one made at EDD. How do you know EDD is better than Greggs, got any hardened evidence? No, didnt think so. I highly doubt you know what goes into a EDD sausage roll either do you? Obviously your superior tastebuds can differentiate between the two though. Being able to afford both gives you that privelige. The poor single mother of four in Peckham doesnt have that luxury to buy both does she? So she has to read this thread and feel like shit because a bunch of ex-Claphamites come on here smugly boasting about the superiority of a shop aimed at middle class people over that of a cheap and cheerful chain bakery. Louisa.

hoorah, at last someone speaks sense snorky. Some people on here just talk absolute b*llocks sometimes. It really is just uteer snobbery. Louisa. -
It isnt about buying good or bad food, it is about buying something because you genuinely are misguided in believing it is better than what is sold in one of the chain bakers like Greggs. Some people are just snobs, they do it because they can, they dont mind wasting money, it makes them feel good. Why not just own up and admit it ED'ers! Louisa.

Mrs Robinson, William Rose, so many complaints and yet I thought all these lovely little independent shops were so popular with the middle classes? Has credit crunch Britain caught up with the well to do perhaps? Louisa.
