  1. Yes they are, but if you can be prepared to stand for 10mins, it's not much of an issue as the trains are usually never delayed once your on them. Louisa.
  2. About time Grove Vale started benefitting from the ED "gentrification" process, equally, it cant be called a bakers if it doesnt bake it on the premesis. One thing about Ayres of Nunhead (despite what the snobs on here think#) it is a true bakers and although quality has slipped in recent years, it still remains by far the best bakers locally. Louisa.
  3. *Bob*, perhaps Ayres of Nunhead would come in handy round here. As for Nandos, I would rather eat goats testicles cooked on a cheap rusty gas stove in the outback of Australia. Theres one in Camberwell anyway. Louisa.
  4. How on earth can this story warrant a thread? Ridiculous. The Swastika isnt just a symbol of 1930s political unrest in Germany, it is also an ancient Hindu symbol and was used in sub-saharan African tribes in the 17th and 18th century as a form of fertility right. If all we have to worry about in 21st century London is a few swastikas on a dustbin, when we have crime taxation and transport worries then god help us. Louisa.
  5. That house is certainly not my cup of tea. Whatever loser came along and decided to refurb it and sell for that sort of price needs to realise that houses and appartments on the Thames with better facilities and views and within closer proximity to the city of london are going for similar values. It's east dulwich, not f****** Docklands. Louisa.
  6. As ever the poor animal is blamed for the provoked/unprovoked (whichever the case may be as we dont have all the facts here) attack on a child. I have noticed a large number of parents walking the streets allowing young toddlers to walk out in the road and run up to dogs without having any form of discipline from the parent. I am NOT saying that this is the case here with Mandy and her child, but I would certainly like to hear both sides of a story before I jump in and judge other people who are not here to defend themselves. Louisa.
  7. Tessa who? Louisa.
  8. I was hoping come the morning of May 2nd we could bury Ken Livingstone or Boris Johnson in the hole. I still live in hope. Louisa.
  9. Some people never learn :-P
  10. Hello everyone, Louisa is back from not so sunny NSW, Australia to be greeted by a bloody noisey LL which prevented me from being able to receoved from a very long flight! Hope everyone is well. Is the lane always like this on a saturday night nowadays? I can honestly say that's the busiest I have probably ever seen it. But then I have been stuck in empty and remote western NSW for the past 7 weeks so anywhere seems busy. Louisa.
  11. Why is it only the middle class home counties brigade who term an area 'rough' before they came in and did their magic. ED has never been a rough area, it's certainly been better than Camberwell Peckham Forest Hill and Brixton for at least 35 years priod to any gentrification locally. I think Dulwich Village has seen to that in the most part. As for the schools well as with most private schools they set up on the borders or within a nice area and attract outsiders. Why is all of this such a revelation for you Cassius?
  12. You dont give someone something and then suddenly take it away from them. Technology is about progress, not about reverting to horse and cart. By telling people to be more sustainable when it will make little or no difference this far down the road in terms of climate change, you are just making people who own cars resentful and defensive. If you want to make real changes how about we test it for a month - I bet if you removed every car from the road, everyone recycled and planes were absent from the air, other than the severe economic downturn, little else would change. It's too late to effect positive change on our climate, what will be will be, dont blame the home car user for this. Louisa.
  13. You do not replace the Edwardes Electrical sign as it's part of ED's history. Louisa.
  14. Yummy Mummy Three Wheeler Buggy Estate Agent Gastropub Open spaces Iceland
  15. I have a school almost directly opposite where I live, I didnt ask for it to be put there back in 1993 nor was I consolted on any potnetial permit scheme which could be offered so I didnt have problems with parking. I now find it impossible to park outside my own house and when i've been forced to park on the schools zigzag lines I get a ticket. I am sick of it, so either get rid of the school and the nursery so that annoying parents arnt stealing spaces from my neighbours and myself, or give us permits (controlled parking zones). Bllody self righteous parents with there kids, STAY AWAY FROM MY PARKING SPACE OUTSIDE MY HOUSE!!!!!! Louisa.
  16. It's easily done HP, but personally I would rather chew glass than offer someone my hard earned cash when they are stuck in the middle of a busy area with cash machines and access to telephones all around. I guess some people dont think. You'll know better next time no doubt. Louisa.
  17. MrBen ball bag hanging is an elaborate punishment from Chiswick which has helped lower armed robbery stats over the last five years. Louisa.
  18. Well having a box of veg or some parcel with clothing in stolen outside a house in SE London isnt exactly a shocker is it? People were talking like it was something to be surprised about! Armed robbery, again, nothing to be surprised about in SE London, but the human cost is a lot greater and the consequences much more severe Sean. Both happen here in SE22, and also Chiswick, but they happen here more regularly. One isnt worth talking about, the other is! Louisa.
  19. Quite right Sean it's not, in Chiswick armed robbery is precisely half the rate it is in SE15/SE22 and SE5, so chances are it wouldnt happen as regularly there as it would here. I didnt know ball bag hanging was part of Sharia law either, next time i'm in Bradford or Luton I shall ask the locals. Hmmmm. Louisa.
  20. Yes macroban, the original Ploug building was made of clapperboard and I have some paintings which I found pictures of online which support this. Very much like most of rural Kent and Surrey, the ED area and Peckham Rye had lots of clapperboard cottages before the Victorian brick invasion. Very few survive today, just a few in Dulwich Village and up by the college on Pond lane? On another Barry RD note, we cannot mention the history of this street without mentioning the name "Dick Emery" a famous comedian during the 1970's on Thames Television in London. I've stuck a youtube clip up (not for the politically correct amongst you but very suited to it's time). The Dick Emery Show Also, the Clock House (kind of Barry RD, was an off licence right up until the mid 1960's, not a pub!). Louisa.
  21. http://www.ideal-homes.org.uk/images/southwark/dulwich/lordship-lane-00633-640.jpg Barry Road in 1900, a mix of old and new (similar to today). Modern Victorian terraces sit alongside old farm labourers cottages. Those people in the pictures look like rural people to me. Louisa.
  22. Inuendo not Innuendo mockney! Goodness me.. there is a difference you know!!! Louisa.
  23. Cassius, Ann Summers is fun! It is also very good quality and not knock off or tacky in my opinion. I know lots of people are scared of the place, and sexual inuendo aside, I find walking around one of their stores orgasmic. Louisa.
  24. Nero sweety pie, Welsh Rarebit is my speciality and I would be happy to set up a stall on Goose Green. I bet I could fill everyone up without ripping them off (eg most pizzarias). Want to help me cut the bread? Cassius, I would love to see Ann Summers replace The Drum, ideal location. I'd also love Somerfield to become M&S simply food and it would be great to have a pie and mash shop along the lane somewhere. Whilst i'm on the topic of what I want, I would like to see Kennedys resurrected and open up a sausage shop somewhere locally. I cant go without a lb of Lincolnshires from Kennedys forever. Louisa.
  25. AnotherPaul do we not have enough bloody eateries in ED now? The last sexy lingerie shop was replaced by the pricey William Rose and now I have to travel to Bromley to go to my favourite shop. Bloody pizza, why dont you make cheese on toast and have done with it at home. Just as filling and not even a quarter of the price! Louisa.
