  1. So long as I know the date in advance to req it off, will be happy to help get drinks at the Clockhouse sorted out as there isn't any chance I'll be running it :)-D
  2. Transvaginal scans are done if they've not been able to get a good view transabdominally - if you've got a bit of a belly anyway it can be tricky (the research fellows doing my scan the other day joking called it a "cloudy day"). Transvaginal gives a clearer view and being a different angle if bubs is being stubborn and not moving when poked they can try and see from this angle too. My experience has been the research fellows are lovely, yes some are quieter than others, but they are all wanting to check your baby is ok. Having had my 12/40 on Fri I had to go back today for a 2nd peek as they wanted to check bubs was growing ok (is growing ok but 4/7 less pregnant than dates suggested) and really can't complain about their care and appreicate the thoroughness/attention given. ....course having Jeremy Kyle on in the wt room was an interesting touch (esp as it was a DNA testing one!!)
  3. Nooooo missing another BG gig :( What amazing taste the Cat-Onions had in wedding band though :)) Really glad all went well and looking forward to seeing pics. Hope the honeymoon goes well...wherever it is!
  4. after all the angst on the forum about primary school places and being allocated schools miles away as the local ones had such small catchment areas, how come so many people need to drive their children in?? Or are there families renting to get a place then going back to their regular home miles away thus needing to drive in??
  5. loveandfriends.com has worked well for me!!
  6. Convulsions = a loss of conciousness so if he was trembly but talking/responsive to you then this is prob more likely rigors. Sounds like you've done everything right in giving the paracetamol/keeping him unwrapped and would say he's likely to be on an upward swing now - esp with the symptoms not continuing over the day. You can always use brufen as well if he's still feeling hot or double check your giving enough paracetamol - there are 24mg paracetamol in a ml of paracetamol (3 mths + strength) and you can give approx 15mg per kg your child weighs - using the suggested dosages on the bottle often leads to them being under dosed as these are often conservative. Really sorry to hear of your loss.
  7. Really glad it works ryedalema - sure it won't be long before I get parents expecting me to know if their any good!
  8. Saline drops are good to use just before a feed - during the feed they take deep breaths through the nose and can clear the mucus that the saline has softened. Don't know if it'd be worth paying out the extra for the calpol branding - regular saline drops should be available in the chemist as well.
  9. When we did our kitchen last year, I umm'd and ahh'd about the washing machine/washer drier (although there's only me and the Mr). What I did was get a washing machine that has 1400 rev spin, have found that stuff (even jeans) comes out much drier and nothing seems to take much more than overnight to dry. Cool thing is that most of the 1400 machines are also AA rated so feel like you're doing a bit towards saving energy.
  10. Gubodge - thanks for correcting the banana/bread thing - thought it was weird that it was bread and toast!
  11. If you speak the the PAL's service at the hospital they'll be able to get you a copy of your notes from A&E - showing what time the accident occured and surely helping show that it pre-dates repairs done to the road... just a thought to help you with your case.
  12. My Dad was on HMS Endurance when the '82 war kicked off, I understand that the war was in part kicked off by the Argentinian government to try and increase their popularity and was fuelled by reports from the UK that as part of defence cuts they were going to cut the South Atlantic Taskforce (darling John Nott*) rather than anything about oil. There was lots of warning from Endurance (esp from their Captain Nick Barker) about groups of Argentinian "fisherman" who were arriving on the island and really not doing much fishing... the government were pretty patronising, and tried to accuse Captain Barker of trying to kick up a fuss so that the need for the taskforce was reconsidered. The rest is history - the "fisherman" were the reccie crew for the invasion and so in April instead of heading back the the UK, the Endurance (being bright red n'all) had to go and hide in the South Georgian fjords for 6wk (Mum was stuck in the middle of Suffolk with a 4yr old and a 2yr old with no idea if Dad was dead or alive) while the helicopters and marines they'd had onboard did as much as they could. The ship finally returned home to a hero's welcome after 10mths away instead of the 5/6 mth tour they'd planned. Nick Barker's career was pretty much finished by the comments he made against the government but was always held in v high esteem by the crew and supporters of the ship. *saw a quick clip of the Robin Day/John Nott interview where he walked out the other day - don't know for sure but it sounded like RD was asking about the falklands war/south atlantic taskforce.
  13. hmmm, can see that Lorraine - maybe toast would be better as bit drier...
  14. FatherJack - I'd suggest with both those things coming straight to ED at Kings would have been fully appropriate as they were both emergencies. SELDOC is good at seeing GP stuff (and really wish more would be using them with the D&V for a few hrs than rolling up to the ED) but esp if you've seen a GP already but there still hasn't been improvement then ED would be the logical next step.
  15. There is loads of this around at the mo.... typically should burn itself out within 24-48hrs... steer clear of food - try dioralyte or flat lemonade and avoid milk until 24hrs after last vomit (become a bit lactose intolerant when tummy is inflammed). And remember BRAT - bread, rice, apple (shredded) and toast to start eating again with. So long as there's been no symptoms for 36-48hrs should think you'll be fine for the flight. Agree with Ryedalema about the hand gel/wipes. Hope you're all feeling brighter soon
  16. HeidiHi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > what is with the doctors sticking their big rubber > finger in a baby's mouth?! They tried to do that > to my son when he was ill in hospital and he kept > gagging and crying because he hated it, I had to > tell them to remove their finger from his mouth! > Have they tried having someone stick a rubber > finger in their mouths?! Not nice! We often give babies a finger to suckle on during blood tests to try and settle them - similar soothing affect to a dummy - as its a time that they are upset it can take a little while to realise the fingers there to settle them but personally I've never gagged a baby doing this (there isn't that far a finger can really get into a babies mouth!)and will often encourage the parents to do this themselves rather than it being a completely strange finger. We often use a sugar solution to dip our gloved finger in as it acts as a temp analgesic (babies are too young to use anaesthetic cream pre bloods) - if we can settle the baby it is then easier and quicker to do tests on them. Am watching the programme at the moment (in a fug of post-night shift) and have missed seeing the Dr's popping their fingers in the babies mouth, but if it was post the c-section they were probably suctioning as the fluid doesn't clear from a babies airway as it does when they are (literally) squeezed out during a regular delivery.
  17. skin to skin contact with the pox wouldn't make much difference as it's a droplet infection (carried in breath). Camomile lotion on the whole stops being affective as soon as it dries - not heard of the camomile and aqueous cream but it sounds really good (and could also be used as soap). Another cream I've heard is good is Eurax cream. Hope lil ones are feeling better soon!
  18. Having seen it "recommended" on here several times, lying about birth plans to get one-to-one care really doesn't sit easy with me and doesn't feel much different to people who call 999 claiming the person has severe difficulty breathing/isn't breathing despite it actually being a cold, as they know this will result in a blue light ambulance arriving within minutes. Surely by lying like this it means other local mums-to-be could be missing out on something they really want??
  19. that's awful - it's especially bad his family opened presents without him... surely they wondered where he was!!
  20. Ragdale Hall is in Leicestershire and think it'd be perfect... Lovely pool/spa area wonderful treatments and breakfast in bed!! Was there in Jan and saw lots of pregnant ladies there, well worth looking them up.
  21. How completely out of order can someone be?? NickW it sounds like this leaflet dropper barged past her toddler and buggy with newborn in on their front path (throwing an assumption out there but guessing like most front paths this is quite narrow). Think it's understandable that she'd be annoyed as the guy didn't even apologise when this was pointed out - all he've had to say was sorry - or even to hand the leaflets to her instead of pushing past (even most of the pizza/curry flyer-er's don't behave this badly). The forum by it's very nature attracts the "arrgghh" moments - but I've not noticed you launching such personal attacks on the opening posters of these.
  22. Regarding what the hill was - in the article Ryedalema linked to, the archietect states that it's an artifical hill from railway works waste
  23. Pleased to say the regular display will be out there tomorrow - went into Val's about an hour ago and a Market Inspector was there - sounds like the council guy who gave them grief should have consulted with him before throwing orders around. Nisha was v amused that I'd heard about this on the forum!
  24. no probs sweetie ;-)
  25. This'll be the thread your looking for luv: Peckham Rye temp traffic lights
