Since when did glamming up mean spending loads?
  2. Having had to work as part of the team in hospital, resusitating a baby who arrested and subsequently died following a planned home delivery, I welcome investigation and scrutiny to ensure that no family goes through having to be told that the baby they haven't even had chance to know yet has died. Oh bother, a few mum's might have to change their plans, but, if following this better understanding/practice to avoid these situations is implemented thus potentially saving lives/preventing risk of damage during delivery then where is the problem??
  3. Is probably from this thread Nico's original thread that RosieH knew it was a woman's clothes shop - rather than the slightly underhand methods you suggested Gimmie - even in Nico's opening post on this thread he mentions a previous thread he'd started.
  4. Have finally received my marrige certificate and old passport today (so not lost forever - phew!) and that was apparently posted on the 3rd Sept so don't loose hope Ruth x
  5. Could be worse.... the passport office ignored me paying for secure delivery and bunged my marrige certificate in the regular post - 3 wks ago. Got new passport begining of Sept but think my certificate's lost forever - suppose I should cross my fingers my identity (or that of my husband's) isn't stolen :( On the plus side, the manager at the LL Post Office couldn't have been more helpful when trying to sort this out yesterday.

  7. Seconding Keef, seconding *Bob*! Find it maddening how self-centred parents can be on the drop-off/pick-up - Etherow Rd often looks like a big box of cars has just been dropped into the road at these times... while it doesn't affect me (if I was to needing to drive anywhere then I'd avoid that end of Friern Rd) it does amaze me that so many drive - even at the junction of Friern/Goodrich St Antony's parents park and walk their children up the road (saw one Mum this am as was returning from my night shift!). Maybe the school have become a bit apathetic in recent terms and need to remind new families of their responsibilities to their fellow parents/local residents if they are driving their children to school. Maybe if there are particular enclaves of St Antony's pupils in other areas they should organise mini-bus pick-ups for them.
  8. This would be impossible - how on earth would all the police needed to close the road for the 15-20mins required appear from?? Also this would cause dangerous delays to other emergencies (both walk-in and ambulance) from reaching the dept - how would you feel if it was your friend/family member having a heart attack in the back of an ambulance while stuck in a queue for 20 mins. There have been various queries about a helipad, but lots of the ED end of the hospital is listed and up on top of the ruskin wing wouldn't be appropriate as it is physically so far away from the ED/would rely too heavily on lifts. matthew123 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Perhaps the helicopter could land directly outside > King's A&E on Denmark Hill itself - the road seems > wide enough. 9. The landing site being in the park isn't new (where exactly onsite could they land?!) esp as the helicopter only flys in daylight hrs this works ok. The ambulance meets them in the park and drives them down to the ED, rather than "bumping them over the pavement" and typically these pt's are sedated and intubated so they don't remember much of it, and even with the ambulance transfer considering the distance from Kings that these pt's come, they arrive much quicker than if just by road. 10. Are you trying to suggest that forumites aren't aware of the immediate environment around them Reg?? In which case, I find this pretty patronising. Posting on here for me (and I'm sure many) is mainly fun, sometimes informative, but what I read on here/post is by no means wholly demonstrative of who I am or an indication of my awareness of my surroundings. Typically we're going to post about things we enjoy or would like to know more about - doesn't mean that's the limit of our personalities/knowledge. If you really want to see a cross section of life, try Kings Emergency Dept.
  11. Correct link!
  12. Ooooo - that's not linking to what it did before!!
  13. how he did it .... got sent this link elsewhere and seems plausible - reminds me of "Ocean's 11".

Heard someone suggesting they may have been projected onto the balls... v clever idea as for a 10 min programme there's now 2 days of free advertising for Friday's show!
  15. Even if you're just back from holiday, you should be able to self-certificate for the first 7 days you're ill. Hope this is helpful x
  16. no fair - working till 10pm... hoping to get to one of the sunday's that he'll be doing.
  17. Oo - saw that on the news - bit strange as all the teenagers reckoned they'd lost their oyster cards unfairly as they were defaced/broken.... either the kids were lying (and so completely missing the point of the scheme if they can't see they did wrong) or the scheme is targeting the wrong kids in the first place.
  18. BTW MrBen - when our computers go down, we move onto a paper/manual system which is a bit slower, and a pain compared to the IT programmes but we carry on with everything we're meant to do. While in debt to our IT guys (they know their loved by us all!) we have to adapt and cope during the breakdown no matter what- can imagine it being stressful esp as you probably had nurses/drs breathing down your neck asking when things would be back to normal again, most of their stress was probably related to keeping everything moving otherwise.
  19. It's no big secret that I work in the NHS too, and it goes without saying that I agree/identify with the arguments put forward and discussed by my NHS colleagues. Just want to try and give an idea of how sickness can escalate/have an effect. I work within a small team - there's normally 4 of us working during the day and 3 (sometimes only 2) during the night. So, if one person if off sick we're straight away taking a quarter or even half of the workforce away with no way of reducing the amount of work the diminished team will face (not able to leave sick children in the pigeonhole of the person off). Would typically be lucky to get more than 6hrs notice of someone being off sick (from hence referred to as "sickie") as is the nature of becoming sick/being ill but hoping to be better by tomorrow. As it's a specialist field, while we can try and get agency cover it's often impossible or if we do more stressful as the day is often spent having to show them the ropes/watch over their shoulder/see exactly how busy it needs to be before they move from a chair/wake up. Also, if there's an indication that the "sickie" will be off for a few days, shifts may be jiggled so the run of 3 nights can become 5 (all be it with that w/e you were rostered to work in a week now off - but that is a week away!) So stress is increased, breaks are likely to become impossible dreams - especially if you're left being the only senior person on, therefore you're likely to burnout and become sick as well (that's not even considering having caught the lurgie from the "sickie"). Knowing how awful it can be when someone is off there is "presentism" for sure as well as returning too soon, which is especially bad as there's no way of gently easing someone back (especially with musculo-skeletal problems) and so also have problems with people returning then going back off again. Obviously the answer would be to have more staff... but it is a specialised field and doesn't appeal to all so it is often difficult to recruit and retain staff. Short of the invention of of packets of snip corner, add water and grow a nurse in 5 mins (am working on the patent) I'm unsure what more could be done.
  20. Heard something on the radio traffic news saying it was closed due to a "police incident" but heard no more than that.
  21. Sounds good - a winner could be to make sure at least some stock goes up to a size 16-18 - big failing point in many of the shops around already
  22. .... have consulted my solicitor and the NHS could well have a case for slander!!
  23. Am sure you might be aware of this already, but the centile charts were based on bottle fed babies (as was the trend 50 odd yrs back when they were developed) and so br/fed babies don't follow the centiles as well, however, they are being redeveloped including assessment of br/fed /different ethnicity infants so that a more realistic chart is produced. That said, a sudden increase/drop of 2 or more centiles should be taken seriously and check that nothing else is amiss. Is really sad to read the comments on here regarding HV's, but am aware from work how confused parents can be by contradictory advice. My advice is always to be open to all advice offered as different things work for different people.
  24. Had a lovely time - just sad had to head off early (blasted w/e shifts :-$) Saw lots of peeps I knew but didn't get to chat to, but sure I'm getting better at circulating!!
  25. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Murial's Wedding! > > > RE: English Patient, vastly overrated novel and > film IMO. Oh yes! Although after meeting me for the first time, a friend of Mr Buggie's told him I reminded him of Murial - wasn't sure it was a compliment!!
