  1. The "plastic coppers" used to be out in force, nearly always walking in threes, but I've not seen any for at least four months on the streets of SE22/15. Also, the Southwark-branded "community whatsits" are no longer to be seen (not that I had much faith in them anyway to do much more than hog the pavement). If anyone who is one, or is responsible for one, is reading this, do try to solve the problem.
  2. Do it! I'll bring a megaphone for you (if needed).
  3. Louisa, Why not your own urban-planning-cum-charm-school? A sure-fire hit!
  4. Could someone just please pick up a phone and do something? It's unacceptable for teens to be invading a parent/young children's space and more so when they make the people for whose use the park is designed feel frightened or uncomfortable. Call 101 or ring 7525 2000 and report this anti-social behaviour and ask other disgruntled park users to do the same.
  5. A drum, you say? Bang activity.

  7. LauraHW - Tell trading standards: it's illegal to sell stamps at anything other than face value (excluding Penny Blacks etc). http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/nireland/consumer_ni/consumer_post_e/consumer_complaining_about_post_e/charged_more_than_the_face_value_for_stamps.htm
  8. Whoops! I mean ? meals

  10. I hope there were totally bona fide.

  12. Yeah, EDLove, let's just let the freeloaders get away with it, man. After all, it's the weekend and the sun is shining! Whatevs, etc?.
  13. It'll be a no. The papers especially (and the media in general) prefers a story to be a story, hence the bigging up of the polls. Most Scots have much more in common with the rest of the UK than some indy-minded leaders would have them and the rest of the UK population believe, especially the working-class ones. I think the sights and sounds of Glasgow spectators readily and happily cheering English/Welsh/NI sportsmen and women in the inclusive environment of the Commonwealth games is encouraging to those who think we are "better together", though I admit that this might be my unionist spin. I tell my Scottish friends that I regard Scotland as "mine", the same way I do Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle or Belfast because I am a citizen of the United Kingdom. Some parts mean more to me than others, but they are all part of the UK.
  14. Kids having fun is OK as long as they're not likely to cause themselves or anyone else an injury, but the pigeon-hobbling weave and other rubbish (not entirely the responsibility of the hair shops) is repellent and really ought to be stopped. I've asked the odd woman who's been on a hair-shop doorway to please not throw it out, so at least I've tried. What's the next step, O councillors?
  15. Cle, I'd've thought the sensible place for a new station (or new-old) station would be at the road where The Bear is. It's shameful that there is no rail link there. The buses are better, especially because Walworth Road is generally more passable these days, but a Camberwell station is not asking too much.
  16. New Nation Rail station at Camberwell? This was in the document too: There are already some key capacity constraints on inner London rail and bus services and some connectivity gaps which will need to be addressed. Significant additional investment will be required. The scale of this in relation to other requirements will depend on the extent to which the strategy to accommodate London?s population growth is through densification in inner London. Some examples of the types of scheme to help address these issues are an upgrade of the London Overground network to provide 6 car trains and new stations on existing lines, eg at Camberwell, that can plug connectivity gaps and act as development nodes.
  17. IngridB, The "art house" as was, near to the Heber Road bus stop on LL, has been tagged quite badly. Who can be contacted to be asked to remove it, do you know? I always thought seven or so 7' x 3' panels, all bright white, was way too much for the rat fink taggers to resist...
  18. Regards the two caps: if I reach a bus cap then add a Tube journey or two, does the daily "all public transport" cap kick in, or does the bus cap get "undone" ready for other journeys that might take it up to the former cap I mentioned. (It could just be that I am misunderstanding the system.)
  19. "Soz" is not a Scouse word, or at least not exclusively: it's generic northern England. As a kid in south Manchester, with very little contact with the outside world, let alone the next town or city, we'd all say "cossie", "pressie", "soz" etc.
  20. I think that the OP is referring to tagging, as opposed to anything approaching art. There's a big difference. I second his/her advice: ask Southwark to remove it. If it's on your property, they'll do it if you sign a release form. I've let a few business know about this and they've been acted on it, which I'm grateful for. Southwark is good at removing tagging and fly-tipping and are pretty good on other enviro issues too, so give that number a ring if you need to.
  21. I asked a man working at the site of the restaurant (near to The Plough at the top of LL) what the property would become once work is finished, and he told me it was to be a restaurant, most likely Turkish.
  22. Offer it to a vet school or taxidermist. If not, pay up and do the right thing: ?48 is a relatively small amount of money (to anyone who can afford a computer, broadband, time to post on EDF).

    Manchester

Chorlton is one of the default areas newcomers to go, the other being Didsbury. Both are in Manchester itself, but you could also try Stockport - especially the Heatons. All these places have what you'd expect of an inner-city suburb and Didsbury - which I know well - is a good place, with similarities to SE22 but with a quieter, more suburban feel. You'll already know that it's cheaper and there is more space, but even Manchester - a big city with a long history - will not have that "London" feel. The city centre is, on the whole, very good, with good spaces, excellent shops and bars and a good cultural scene, as well as cheaper cabs and loads of buses and trams. http://www.buzzfeed.com/tabathaleggett/things-manchester-has-that-london-should-get-immediately
  24. I'd advise getting at least two dead-locks fitted. I know one might seem enough, but a burglar might well think twice about trying to get entry upon seeing two heavy locks and a normal Yale lock. Make it as hard for them as possible: close the gate, put plants on the windowsill, install lights and make sure all your heavy locks are locked. It might sound trite, but the compound effect could work.
  25. It's nice and a good gesture from EDPH whilst they undertake the building work. If only the folk at the "art house" as was would do the same: the hoardings around this house at the Heber/Lordship bus stop are already tagged, as I knew they would be when they went up in their sparkling whiteness a few weeks ago. If anyone has any in with this development, give them a nudge to clean up the mess and keep it cleaned up.
